Several years ago someone uploaded a few ATWT clips and an episode from the early '80s. The videos left Youtube and I haven't seen them since, so I've decided, for anyone here who hasn't seen them or wanted to see them again, to put them up. I'll put the other few up tomorrow. If anyone can help with dating this - thanks.

This is the newspaper synopsis for the week of November 9, 1985. I am assuming that Iva showed up at the end of the Friday episode, November 6th. And that Emma and Holden were probably established/featured during the week of November 2nd.

November 9, 1985
Emma was shocked when her daughter Iva arrived on her doorstep. Kevin saw a woman`s body in a closet at the Corbman mansion. Police officer Roy Franklin investigated Marie`s sudden disappearance. Frannie gave Roy a page torn from Marie`s diary. Kevin told Frannie their romance is over. Ken lurked outside Kim`s house. Doug made a date with Frannie. Marsha told a shocked Kevin that Marie is pregnant. Barbara told Tom she`s concentrating all her energies on business.

If Lucy Deakins had remained as Lily, then Lily and Dusty most surely would have been endgame.  Then again, who's to say that Deakins and Jon Hensley wouldn't have generated a similar amount of chemistry that Hensley and Martha Byrne did?

I, too, think it was possible that Marland was "assisting" Susan Bedsow Horgan and her team before officially joining the show.  At the very least, he might've given Horgan notice of stories he had planned to tell, thereby allowing her to leave characters and storylines in the right places for him to pick them up from.

Yes. You can tell by the synopsis I posted from the second week of November 85 that Doug Cummings and Marsha Talbot are already established.

Though Doug may have been killed in February, he still made sporadic appearances for weeks afterward, haunting Frannie in her dreams. So I'd say John Wesley Shipp was on the show for about six months, give or take.

I had forgotten Rick was back in this episode.

If I ever get the episode I have on disc up, from August 1981, he also features there. It's funny as there's been such talk about him here lately. It's still odd to me they cast Marc Singer and did so little with him (maybe he left of his own choice, I don't know).

Actually according to the old WLS press release this episode (the one on DVD) should be July 15. I guess the Youtube channel misdated it?

Here's an old promo with Margo catching James kissing Connie (which comes up a lot in this episode). Mary Stuart's "ooooggghhh" in this promo always cracks me up.

Here's the episode. I still don't know if this is the right month so if anyone knows the exact date:

Compared to a lot of early '80s ATWT I've seen I actually enjoyed this episode (even a bit more than I did the first time seeing it). It has some pep to it instead of seeming slow as hell. Some of my main bugbears of this era, like Cricket, Dee and Annie, have a bit more life and less dead line readings (Cricket even manages a pretty good one with Margo) than usual. And Annie is not made up like a Vice President's wife, which makes a nice change. I really love the John/Margo relationship under Colin - such fire, yet you can also feel the bond. And it's good to see Tom with Chris, as working with Don McLaughlin seems to calm Justin Deas down.

I know I asked this the first time this episode was around, but:

- How long was this cute doctor Larry and the nurse around? I had never heard of them until I saw this.

- I get so confused about the Annie and Carol baby stuff. Were they both pregnant at this time? Did they both lose their babies? For some reason I thought at one point Annie was carrying a baby FOR Carol and Steve. Was this that baby?

If Rita McLaughlin had wanted to stay on the show I think she easily could have - her hair and makeup and wardrobe here fit the changes of the early '80s beautifully, unlike a lot of ATWT stalwarts who had some very rough patches.

I think Shannon was not so much a candidate for Lily's mother, but as a suspect for who was the person behind the mysterious phone calls that Lucinda had been getting.

Back then, nobody knew why Lucinda was getting those phones calls but Craig suspected that it might have something to do with Martin Guest and Sierra only knew that the phone calls made Lucinda very agitated, so both Craig and Sierra (who was by this time married to Tonio) decided to share information and investigate this together.

Once Iva walked into that bar off the Interstate and Lucinda, who'd been sitting there waiting looks up to see who it is, the audience becomes aware that it is actually Iva who was behind those mysterious phone calls to Lucinda (one of which Lucinda ran off the road and got into a near-fatal accident on the way to meet her).  It was in the bar that Iva reveals that she's Lily's mother.  At first, Lucinda is incredulous until Iva starts providing details, including the adoption broker who, it turns out met with Martin Guest.

Craig and Sierra ended up suspecting Shannon as being behind the phone calls because of a weird call that Shannon made to the mansion and appeared to get frazzled when Sierra answered the phone.  Also, when Craig found out the bar off the Interstate where Lucinda went (Lyla, who had found the address on a slip of paper that Lucinda accidentally dropped and left on her hospital room floor after her car crash, contacted Craig), he and Sierra went to talk to the bar owner who identify Lucinda in a picture that they showed him and then proceeded to give a dodgy description of the woman whom Lucinda met (he only mentioned figure, eyes and a green scarf), which Craig and Sierra assumed to be Shannon after she walked into Lucinda's mansion one day wearing a green scarf.

Yes. Lisa something (Lisa Sloan? Or is that another actress?). She is very generic.

Considering Reckell came in as the brother of a character who got a lot of focus at the time (Brad Hollister) they may have had more plans, but I don't think either of them made it out of 1981. It's odd ATWT didn't see Dana's potential, but then so many women came and went in this time period thanks to poor writing.

That's interesting. I never knew Shannon was involved in any of that story, although I haven't seen a lot of it. Shannon became much more isolated after she got together with Duncan.

Oddly, I think Shannon's brief return in 1994/5 had her interacting with the canvas more than during her last two years or so on ATWT (1988-1990).  She was tied to Duncan still.. but she interacted quite a bit with Lily/Damian, Lucinda, Samantha, even chemistry tested with Royce, and lastly she and Barbara locked heads a bit during the Lisa/John lawsuit (since Barbara sided with Lisa.. while Shannon was more apt to side with John even though she was close to John).

    • I remember this funny bit with Donna in 1989 or 1990 where Michael had asked Donna why she didn't have a female friend and/or really any friends.  I laughed when he mentioned how she was close to Iris, but backtracked by saying 'ok that was my fault' when she gave him the looks that could kill look. I remember there was a bit where Donna then tried to befriend Rachel and I believe Felicia in separate scenes with the two both looking at Donna in bewilderment.  It didn't seem to work. After Felicia and Lucas married, I do remember a few scenes between Felicia and Iris where they were being nice yet throwing subtle shade at one another.  Then Donna would come into the scene and then it seemed as though Iris and Felicia would both focus on their annoyance at Donna.  I do recall Felicia did get silo'd into her own orbit at times... and that Lorna and Jenna had more interactions with other characters outside that orbit.. moreso than Felicia. I think the isolation of  Donna/Rachel/Felicia became more pronounced/obvious once Iris was written off the show and JFP came into the EP position in 1995.   Even after JFP departed.. the isolation of characters into bubbles continued until the last few months of the show when Amanda started interacting with Cindy, Paulina resumed interacting with Rachel/Amanda, Vicky/Lila began sparring again after being in separate orbits for over a year, etc.
    • Only falling or tripping dreams for me...
    • I think with the Silk Press Sheila/Eva/Ted/Nicole situation fully out and in the open (for the most part)... I have some predictions for May/June: Kat/Eva/Tomas:  With the revelation that her father, who she held up as a hero, is not as perfect as he's presented himself to be.. I see Kat focusing her energy on supporting her mother and pushes Tomas away (she had mentioned to Vernon about how Tomas had asked her to step in and talk Naomi into dropping the lawsuit and how she didn't feel comfortable with that).   With Tomas pushed away from Kat.. he become the one individual that is nice to Eva and also feels a bit of guilt since his telling of what she confided in him to Kat ended up being the spark that made Kat resume investigating Eva.   Eva will also go to Tomas for comfort... and that will cause even more conflict/issues between herself and Kat. Nicole/Ted:  As we've seen for the last 2+ months... Nicole is not anything like Dani and her response to Silk Press' bombshells proves that.  Even if she opts not to file for divorce.. I predict a messy War of the Roses type of situation.   Although she kind of bought this on herself with the bottom bit of trust she had for Eva irregardless of the fact that she came recommended by Mona. Martin:  I have a feeling that his memories of the being Silk Press Sheila's little brownie friend will also revive the nightmares full stop.. and May will have this be the A story with Smitty and kids affected by this secret of his from the past.  If found out.. will Smitty leave him, or will Smitty continue his unhealthy devotion to Martin (and it is unhealthy).   And also, I hope we get some more focus/development on the Joey/Vanessa/Doug situation.. and also connect the threads of that threesomes to Jacob/Jacob's partner/Jacob's dad thread... and also get to see who else Joey starts to set his sights on (perhaps a Dupree.. since they're vulnerable right now). My wishlist for May/June for the B and C stories: Naomi/Jacob:  Cute couple.. but why are they together.  As the late Agnes Nixon would ask if she view them .. why are they together?  What is it about Naomi and Jacob's pasts pre marriage has led the two to find one another and get married?  Naomi seems a control freak... as a way to not be like her 'weak' mother Dani so she calls the shots?  What draws Jacob to Naomi?  Is it her sense of justice and passion?  Is it the Dupree last name?  Ashley/Derek:  The last time she was on, we finally got a bit of personality from her that isn't so perfect.  She's high strung/anal about her surroundings and her life.  Is she like this because she was a latchkey kid due to her single mother working all the time?  Is she only with Derek because he's 'simple' and 'uncomplicated'.. someone she thinks won't try to upset her routines?  As I say... I don't know if the writers/producers have the 'why' figured out for these two.. and if they can figure that out.. story can generate from that.
    • It's not the worst idea lol.  Emma deserves much better than Joss though.
    • Robert Newman gets the short end of the stick, as Josh is usually stuck being an [!@#$%^&*] until the chick he's with goes cray-cray and Reva becomes the better alternative.  Reva was also married to Josh's brother Billy. You said it better than I did.  While I didn't know Brandon had died on-screen previous to this, it was just odd that they'd made such a huge deal about him already being dead the summer before, yet now he's just hanging around in white linen in the islands, not giving a fig about his family and friends. To me, Brandon was always the spectre hanging over the family that explained their lack of conscience.  Long at times used history very well--or at least knew how to mine it for story effectively. The Fishing Trip and Dylan are probably the best examples of that. I don't think she came up with Dinah, but I could be wrong.

Marnie Schulenburg's widower. She was such a strong person. (I did not realize he played the Tucker Carlson knockoff on Succession)
    • She has the Bo Buchanan curse.  Agreed, Carly's reaction would be quite interesting.
    • I agree. Even the discussion about cuts at the end of scenes. I'm binging THE DEFENDERS right now, and it has those cuts. Is it odd? Oh God yes. Heck, I will say it's worse than what has been discussed here because it does not bother me here and this was back in 2017/2018.   That said...I am starting to look forward to BTG finding their proper rhythm.
    • Louise, what memories & Brooks with her! Other favorite domestics: Lucinda's butler Matthew, Ginger on GL, Vivian of course on AW. A notable butler & a notable cook at the Qs. DAYS Ivan taking care of Vivian Allamain all of those years. Oh, on AW Carl had a driver who sometimes had other duties: Ito? I recall him being Asian. I always felt sorry for Louise & Brooks when Mac & Rachel would fall out. How difficult it must have been for them with all that tension & heaven forbid they be in the room for one of their fights, which were violent & mean-spirited & loud!
