It doesn't even have to be an event.. just have something happen on a weekly basis in each of the different plotlines.
Watching episodes of other P & G shows in the 80s and 90s, each episode seemed to focus on 3 particular plots and various scenes between certain character. One had a major plot reveal, the other was a build up to a plot reveal, and the final one was just a nice filler scene.
Chelsea in one episode mentioned cook outs and how Derek was such a fun person to be around at these cook outs. Why haven't we seen one of these cook outs play out? It would have been a good place to mix the characters in a casual setting that wasn't the countryclub, Orphey Genes, nor Uptown. It could have been a fun event that would have harkened back to the P & G gatherings of the past (Guiding Light in the 80s had a lot of fun social gatherings rather it was a game night at the Bauers, a house warming for the Lewis family, a barbeque at 4th of July, etc).
BTG could benefit from some fun summer gatherings
