Bill Bell did write for Margaret Mason as Linda was first on days in the early 70's.

I think it was more a case of Wes Kenney having worked with a of those actors on DOOL.Add Peter Brown,Suzanne Zenor ,and Susan Seaforth Hayes to the list.

The young characters have no depth and the vets have been badly written for.It is difficult to keep long standing characters interesting but MAB & co are faiiing dismally - Victor on a horse proposing to Nikki again and she saying yes? Please...

Jack having another go nowhere marriage.

Bringing in a legacy character like 'Chance' and writing him so blandly.

Turning Ashley into a nutcase and then having her recover with no fallout.

Every single character and story is basically a miss.

What else? Ratings. Eden's fans loved, worshipped and adored her on AMC, so Y&R wants in on some of that action. Unfortunately, they gave her a character (Heather) that was all wrong for her. If anything, she should be playing Chloe, not Elizabeth Hendrickson; and EH should be playing Mac, not Cybill Shepherd Clementine Ford.

I absolutely loved seeing the Darlene Conley clips even if I had seen them 10 years ago, back when it was rumored Raul was to be Nina's son. Remember that? In any case, Conley was chilling as Rose in contrast to the larger than life Sally Spectra. BTW Rose DeVille had been on the show before in a story with Nikki's stripping hadn't she? The rest of the show SUCKED.

I always enjoyed Nina as a character in the 90s mainly because she was so realistic for the most part. While not anything like Traci, she was still only average attractive and her insecurities drove her story as she fended off Victoria and others. It's too bad her mother Flo was dumped about the same time other older characters were dumped.

BTW I know Bergman not the greatest actor I don't think he started a trend at all. While I have never watched ABC soaps I think there was a 14-year different between Bergman's hiring and Keith Hamilton Cobb's hiring. Of course if there's any ABC stars that were hired between then I don't know for sure...Peck was on Dallas and Dynasty, Tylo on GL, Reeves on Days, and Case and LeBlanc on ATWT. I think the Y&R/Days connection is a bad example given Bell still wrote for Days into the late 70s and are both over overseen by Columbia/Sony.

And it occurred to me that he just might be lying! I find it interesting that Ronan already knows that Nina is supposedly his mother. I don't know why I find that interesting but I do. Furthermore, the purpose of making Ronan Nina's son is already defeated because Chance will be gone in a few short weeks. There will be no opportunity for brotherly bonding/fighting.

First they had Chance to cheat in order to prop Billy, now they had Chance cheat on Chloe for pity points? Which is it? Both of these explanations are ridiculous BTW. How about they had Chance cheat because he was unbelievable and quite annoying from the moment he arrived until recently! They decided (in a bad way) to present him as something of a bad boy capable of screwing up just like everyone else! Some have said that they had him cheat because he's leaving the show which is also ridiculous! I know they are lousy writers but I can't believe it never occurred to them to dismiss Chance by having him get a call back to Iraq or have him go live with Phillip in Australia for some much needed father/son bonding. They didn't have to turn him into a cheater just so he could leave town!

Not quite. When Nikki was married to Wings Hauser's Greg Foster, Rose was the head of the prostitution ring that Nikki got mixed up with on account of her and Greg being flat broke. I don't know all the details, but...one of Nikki's johns was murdered in some cheap motel room; Nikki was accused of the murder; Rose skipped town (before showing up again to take Nina's baby); and Greg, an attorney, divorced Nikki because of the scandal and her "double life."

What's more,

(BTW, I'm not sure, but I don't think we're supposed to mention Chance's departure in this particular thread w/o spoiler tags.)

Chance's possible departure has been mentioned in various posts around these boards without spoiler tags. Furthermore, I don't even think it's quite a spoiler just yet. I've seen nothing really definitive to state that he's actually leaving. Sounds like just a rumor right now!

    •  Thanks! For some reason I had misremembered ER and Chicago Hope going directly head to head but that may have been because of the hype about both shows.    Poor Connie Chung. She seem poised for success and possibly the next Barbara Walters. I don’t recall her co-anchor gig on the CBS Evening News was well received though. She kind of tanked her career moving into more a tabloid journalist role once at ABC and especially once she moved off network TV to CNN and later more infamously on MSNBC.

    • Strangely, it was Phillip who invited Evie to go to the ball with him. She had been taking care of Samantha, so I guess it was a way to thank her for helping Justin after Jackie's death? So she was not invited by Vanessa. Phillip brought her as his plus one. That Evie stayed on the canvas so long is extremely odd, especially since Ben was gone way before her. My theory is Marland was going to bring Rita back, so they wanted Evie to remain in place as her sounding board. When he left and Potter was still EP, that might have still been the plan. Once Kobe came in, that would have been thrown in the dumpster along with a lot of other story plans and characters.
    • Nina and Portia are generally presented as entirely too savvy to not think this ketamine (don't even GET me started on that) nonsense wouldn't immediately blow up in their face. Drew, the ex-navy seal and congressman, wouldn't get a drug test immediately after acting wildly out of character? Portia allowed this to so easily be traced back to her by roping in Brad, a man who can't stand her? Nina didn't think Willow would Stand By Her Man? Girl, PAY ATTENTION! I also find it disturbing how BOTH of them are gaslighting Willow. It feels gross. They should have presented Gio as anything other than a responsible, genial and affable guy if they wanted us to buy any of Dante's ranting about him. You've known this kid since he was a baby and suddenly you're yelling at him like he's the devil incarnate? It was so forced. Every one of them, including Dante, know that they all would have done the same thing in Gio's shoes. Teen gets drunk, friends cover for them. Gio's only 5 years older than him, barely allowed to legally drink himself. How was he to know the kid had alcohol poisoning? Alexa Havins crying every day over keeping a baby secret. Ahh memories. Molly and Kristina are just the worst to their mom and Alexis allows it. Kristina does need to be committed, she's a danger to herself and others. I wish Alexis would just tell her that she knows. I can't wait until Molly finds out about her almost getting Ric and Liz killed. I need her to body slam Kristina. Sasha thinks she knows EVERYTHING. She's always giving advice and painted as right no matter what. And so holier than thou while carrying a married man's baby.
    • Correction, Chicago Hope 1994/95 was initially Thursday 9 pm, a CBS dead zone and head-to-head w/ Seinfeld. 1994/95 CBS Thursday 10 pm initially was Eye to Eye with Connie Chung. Later in the season CBS did a scheduling shift with Chicago Hope moving to Monday 10 pm, Eye to Eye with Connie Chung moving to Thursday 9 pm, and 48 Hours moving from Wednesday 10 pm to Thursday 10 pm.

    • A--I wish someone would post a better vid of the entire ball, as it must be out there. And B--nope. Evie is only in a small segment of the ball with Phillip, Rick and Mindy. She doesn't dance at all. Ross dances with Helena and Amanda. I'm not even sure why Evie is at the ball---Vanessa heartily disliked her. I did see that Billy actually asked Henry to introduce him to Vanessa, which I hadn't realized.
    • Honestly, they should've ordered more of 2000 Malibu Road for the 1992-93 midseason and aired it when Knots went on a break. That was probably their best shot.    Then of course they fumbled Central Park West by airing it in the 9PM slot instead of a 10PM slot where it would've been away from the Fox dramas. CPW got its best rating by airing randomly on a Sunday and when it was taken off the air for a "re-tooling", Party of Five's ratings actually had a spike, so clearly they were feeding off each other. But being a smaller network focused on a certain demographic, Fox could afford to be patient Party of Five, CBS couldn't...
    • Agree on Bruce Gray as Owen; they needed to cast star power. He was too lightweight against Kim and he had no chemistry with Frances Fischer except more gay buddy or daddy figure.  I loved Nola and Eliot together though. Lee Godart should have been longer term.
    • Andre has the worst fashion of the males which is off putting for someone as fine as he is. His jackets and sweaters look dated and no vintage does not work for him
