Her Wiki page says she did well in rehearsal but was nervous oncamera. And, apparently, drunk.

It's a good script though, and she does OK. Imagine if Loretta Young had filled in as Susan!

The biggest and happiest surprise for me was getting to hear Aunt Grace for the first time. She wasn't what I expected at all. I expect someone like that little old lady on Brighter Day. Grace was tough as nails! I loved it. She added a lot of spark. The show had such a fascinating and in some ways very ahead of its time view of females.

Thanks for the article. It does seem like it came pretty close to being picked up. I wonder what would have happened if it had been, if they would have been able to build the show up again.

I've seen that photo of Gale and Braxton getting ready for bed, and it is always very evocative, striking. I have never been overly impressed with what I've seen of Gale elsewhere. I wish I'd seen him in this role.

The Afternoon TV cover is of ATWT (I posted that in the ATWT thread at one point). The OLTL contents are mostly, I think, an interview with Gillian Spencer. I posted that here.

The Joan Crawford episode was wonderful. The last 'Storm' episode saynotoursoap posted was from January / February 1967. Since then, Peter Ames has died, Paul and Amy Britton left and returned to Woodbridge, Robin died setting in motion to Amy / Belle feud, and a series of new characters have arrived in town.

I loved the opening exchanged between Charlie and Belle. Listening to this, I realized how soaps rarely do this anymore. Charlie and Belle aren't directly involved in the blackmail scheme, but they are reacting to it. They aren't just recapping, but we get the chance to see how they feel about it. Charlie is appauled and Belle certainly has no love loss for the Ames clan.

Then we see the Ames family dealing with the crisis. The Nick / Valerie relationship is interesting as Charlie notes he is a younger man. I wonder how the audience reacted to Nick and Valerie. I wonder where this would have gone. When the dust settled, would Joan have remained in the Ames orbit as an adversary like Belle or was the hope that the audience would accept Nick and Valerie and want them to find happiness together.

Jerry is very brusque in these scenes. This wasn't the man I imagined Jerry to be, but it was interesting to hear the final take on Jerry since he was the first of the siblings to vanish from the canvas. Grace Tyrell was much stronger than I had imagined, but this sort of falls in line with Brent's recounts about the encounters between Pauline and Grace. I assume Pauline had vanished by this point, but I could see how a Pauline / Valerie rivalry could have brewed ala Van / Meg despite the fact Valerie wasn't really Grace's daughter.

Joan seems to be a pot stirrer and I would love to learn more about this libel situation she seems to have concocted with the help of the Petersons. I wonder if someone was helping her like Nick suggested. Could Belle have been her secret benefactor as she was no friend of the Ames'?

'Storm' continues to intrigue me with each segment that finds its way online.

    • I wish I cared about the homeless lady as much as everyone else seems to. After the nothing burger that was the lawsuit, this just feels like another boring Naomi storyline at Orphy Genes since she has no office.
    • That's great to hear. Thanks. I wish that was more readily available.
    • Just learned that Clifton Davis wrote this song!  I had no idea.

    • I think even if Marland had wanted to write more for Sara/Adam, his hands would have been tied as Robert Milli was one of the actors dumped by P&G due to his age.  From the bits and pieces I've seen of that period, Sara does have a key role in the Carrie plot, and Marland briefly gave her son Tim a more important part. I'm not sure if they just gave up on Tim once Kevin Bacon left or if they never really cared. I did not even know for many years that there was an actor in the part after Kevin...and then not one, but two. The Spauldingfield video on Tim doesn't even show the last actor (Nigel Reed), which kind of says it all. Anyway, I do get the sense Marland has some use for Sara, or for Millette. It's only after he goes that she is dumped. Of course he didn't ever hire her for his other shows, so maybe I'm wrong. (then again he never hired Geraldine Court either and he seemed very fond of her) Ann is an odd character to me as she is a proto-Lillian in being defined by pining for a Bauer brother and being involved in the death of one of their wives. I do wonder what else they could have done with her. She was friends with Diane, wasn't she? They could have had Diane manipulate her against Mike, I suppose.
    • Yassss....come on Maurice and Brandon...give us nothing!!! Wow, their need to develop their craft shone like a blinding light this episode. Brandon in his Martin and Smitty scenes sounded like he was reading and the facial expressions were giving Disney Channel. He did much better against Maurice in the Martin v Ted scenes. Now, Teddd-dyy (Dana's voice) was just flat. I watched the episode just now after reading the comment on here that Maurice needs to stop swaying, and now I can't unsee it. Has it really been this bad all along?  Ambyr carries. I don't need to say anymore. I am kind of excited to see this Kat/Tomas/Eva stuff play out.  Bill is such a dick to Dani. Like that's the mother of your children that you cheated on with your daughter's best friend but you look to take those low blows. Lord! When he said that thing about it being obvious he didn't care about Dani anymore since he was the one that walked out...that was cold. I even felt for Dani. Bill definitely is all over the spectrum. You can see a villain possibly surfacing, but you also see this great father. The elder Duprees move a little funny. I'm wondering what that is all about. Are they just overly protective matriarch and patriarch because they think it's what's best for their family, or are they afraid their secrets will come out or there's something more sinister there. Why would Vernon want to keep that information from Martin?  I hope something interesting comes out of this June stuff, but as of right now, I'm not too invested. It's not helping my interest on Naomi or Jacob either. However, tge actress playing Naomi has comes a long way from day one.
    • None of the males are taking their shirts off every week, so we know they have some degree of acting skill.
    • Here's what happened on the sophomore slaughterer, rookie breakout, new hotness, and three soaps that week. Miami Vice - Sons and Lovers (season 2 finale, May 9): Angelyne warns former lover Tubbs of a bounty put on his head by the son of dead drug-kingpin Calderone. Dallas - Hello...Goodbye...Hello (May 9): An enemy stalks J.R.. Aunt Lil testifies for Ray at the adoption hearing. Sue Ellen tells John Ross that she and J.R. are reconciling. Falcon Crest - Consumed (May 9): Jeff imprisons Maggie. Angela pursues elopers Dwayne and Emma. Chase traps Terry into revealing Richard's link with Miss Jones. Knots Landing - Thicker than Water (May 8): Karen and Abby feud over Lotus Point. Greg and Abby urge Peter to enter politics. Ben packs for Cathy's tour. Mack meets his daughter.
    • What can I say?  I did my best.
    • Thank you for sharing. I guess Nancy was catatonic most of her time on the show, so I guess the gasps make sense, lol. I had heard Cathy and Dick DeCoit were supposed to be on the show longer, but Trish Stewart leaving changed all that.
    • @Rmodelboy Thanks for posting that On-set pic of June. She looks great, you just might be right about her being Hayley sibling.
