Victoria Rowell: "Debbi Morgan wanted to come to Y&R"

When I was in college, I had leftist professors tell me every half-assed cliché about white people, black people, women, homosexuals, and every other categorized group you can think of. It was by that time I realized it was all a joke, and that the only one grounded in reality was myself. The professors were naturally mouthing off what every other professor was saying, so in essence they were not hallmarks of objectivity. And lest I should forget about the learning process...the only thing you were expected to "learn" from college are the following:

White=Bad

Black=Good

Male (only if they're white)=Bad

Female=Good

In my later years, working in NYC and interacting and making friendships with people from all walks of life is what has made me today. Reality, in terms of race/sex/whatever, is what it is. What television, the media, music, etc. want you to believe is bullcrap.

Man, I really don't care about what you learned from your professors and what-not. That's between you and them. None of my teachers in high school or college ever made me believe any of the above. So...um, yeah. I like to think that I have a very objective view of the world. Some may disagree, but I hold firm in my belief.

But my question is who in the world are you to dismiss anybody's claims when you're not them at all and have no idea whether or not what they're saying is legit? You don't have to endorse it or agree with it or even accept it. But what gives you the right to say that it's wrong?

This is just my take on it, but I feel that in your disillusion with what your professors wanted you to believe, you've convinced yourself that the above circumstances are rare. Which they are not. At all. So dismissing complaints based on those circumstances is just ridiculous.

Now is Kristoff a crazy black guy, using the race card, pulling stuff out of his ass from Race/Gender studies classes too?

You betcha!!

Here's how it goes when you want "diversity" in soaps: give them (non-whites) an inch, they want the entire highway. If they don't get it, they will stamp their feet, kick and scream the R-bomb until some knight-in-armour TV whoever comes to their rescue. This is the way it is in this day and age.

But what gives you the right to say that it's wrong?

It's called freedom of speech.

You know, I was gonna reply to this, but I thought, "Why bother?" This just REALLY says it all.

Here's the thing.. on daytime television as a whole you have:

Oprah Winfrey

Sherri Shepherd

Robin Roberts

Al Roker

Wayne Brady

Judge Mathis

Wendy Williams

A minimum of 3 black characters on every soap (Except B&B)

Judge Joe Brown

(Recently left) Montel Williams

(Recently left) Tyra Banks

Whoopi Goldberg

Judge Lynn toler (Divorce court)

Debbye Turner Bell

Dr. Lisa Masterson

So nobody can look at the glass half full here? Counting the soap characters that gives you over 30 black faces on daytime TV... Can you name ANY black personalities on daytime in 1975? (Besides Bill Cosby and Don Cornelius on Saturday mornings)What HUGE strides this represents.

Like I said before...regardless of if someone is "crazy" or "sassy" or "holding a grudge," does that make their claims any less valid, especially when the same vicious cycle is being repeated with other co-stars?! That was the question I posed. Now that I've cleared that up, feel free to answer.

I don't see as one other co-star making a complaint a "vicious cycle". And I never said her claim wasn't valid, I just said that I don't believe racism to be the ENTIRE reason for her problems. I simply think she's overly DRAMATIC and excessively whiny. That's not how a PROFESSIONAL behaves. But that's how a hot mess behaves, and thank God, because it gives me many a kee-cackle and boundless entertainment value.

And I, as a Black man, am supposed to feel proud about this list? Are you joking? This list makes me nostalgic for the days of Amos 'n' Andy!

what do ya mean? What's wrong with Oprah and Dr. Lisa? Wendy is a hot mess, but she's FUN with a capital F. And what problem do you have with Sherri, Whoopi and Al Roker? If you don't like these people, who would pass muster for you? Can I have some examples?

That list shows that some genres in daytime TV appreciate their audience which is why they're thriving and daytime soaps are failing. If minorities are a large part of the audience, how hard is it to create one family out of four or five that is black or hispanic or asian? It's not hard...

To hear Dee Dee tell it, Victoria Rowell is perfect in every way and has done nothing wrong in her life, EVAH.

Never in any of my posts about Victoria and/or race have I EVER said that or anything like it.

Directly or indirectly.

As usual you are hearing what you want to hear, skewing what actually WAS said & throwing temper tantrums cause you can't control the narrative with your bigotry.

i'm sorry, but last time I checked, the name on her birth certificate was NOT Jesus Christ.

It's not on yours either.

Yet it doesn't stop you from acting like a Martyr.

alpha, you may very well be right, maybe she is an aloof diva on set, I cannot say. But the fact remains that the injustices she speaks of don't (or at least SHOULDN'T) have anything to do with her personality. If TPTP are not writing for black characters because they do not like Victoria Rowell, yeah, we have a huge problem there. Sure, you can attract more flies with honey than vinegar, but if Victoria got frustrated, a little loud, and a lot angry that the black actors couldn't get their hair properly done or weren't afforded the same wardrobe courtesies (loaded subjects btw that make ANY actor look petty and vain for even bringing up so damned if they do, damned if they don't), they shouldn't have taken their anger for Victoria out on the other black cast members nor the fans at home.

She hasn't said that everyone was against her, she mentions specific people who she did and did not get along with. I'm not doubting that she's a little eccentric  a LOT of actors are, but that doesn't equal certifiable batshit crazy bitch either. Honestly, the more I hear from VR the more I'm reminded of Robin Strasser, the things said about her and the things she's said about herself re: work ethic/co-worker relations. VR just has the added burden of racial inequality which sells short the work she knows the show is capable of doing, and doesn't provide a level playing ground for the entire cast. I don't think she's using her race as an excuse for people legitimately disliking her for bitchery. Yet it's impossible to separate the issue of race because that's the issue that's making her "bitchy" to begin with!

+1.

The problem "I" have with this is that people are saying Victoria Rowell is crazy. Even if she is crazy, what the hell difference does that make with regard to her claims? Especially if we're seeing the EXACT same thing playing out with people on Y&R long after she has left?

Kristoff has been nothing but a loyal employee to SONY/Bell, often criticized by many in the black soap watching community for "Tomming" and "not speaking up." When Kristoff finally sees the writing on the wall and decides to go on record about the lack of diversity on Y&R, the way his character has been treated, and what is happening to fellow minority actors on his show, the show gives him a "suck it up and take what you can get from us because this will be your fate if you don't straighten up" vacation. Instead of Maria Bell and Paul Rauch taking these criticisms and concerns seriously, the show chastises him and then puts him in yet another pairing where he is sacked for the "ruthless tycoon newcomer" endgame.

Now is Kristoff a crazy black guy, using the race card, pulling stuff out of his ass from Race/Gender studies classes too? The approaches were different(Rowell bringing in the fire truck, Kristoff using the water hose), but their messages were the same. Y&R takes its minority audience and minority representation for granted.

BASICALLY!

 Wow. Someone reads WAY too much Michele Malkin.

Now Now bellcurve! Don't be "hyperemotional!"

Ignorant bitches claim to be the voices of the black viewers.

LOL

Poor thing.

Can't even deal with your pseudonyms let alone your pathology.

And I, as a Black man, am supposed to feel proud about this list?

No.

It was a post designed as a desperate attempt at changing the subject to take the focus off the bigot's attempt at derailing the thread.

That list shows that some genres in daytime TV appreciate their audience which is why they're thriving and daytime soaps are failing. If minorities are a large part of the audience, how hard is it to create one family out of four or five that is black or hispanic or asian? It's not hard...

It's called freedom of speech.

Right, right. You can say whatever you want.

No matter how baseless or ignorant it is.

For real. Notice how talk shows and court shows keep sprouting up every single season. While soaps die.

Okay, so I got to ask. Does anyone actually know why Wendy Williams walked off like that?

I don't know

And I know that .gif is probably on overkill for some. But that sh!t was necessary and more than appropriate here.

Okay, so I got to ask. Does anyone actually know why Wendy Williams walked off like that?

She was upset about people saying a male actor should play Susan Boyle in a biopic about her life.
