It would be a nice surprise if Bonet, Tomei and Devine (we no longer have Mary Alice and Lou Meyers) could be a part of even one of those dates.
The other day, Marisa Tomei was being interview on either The Tonight Show or Late Night With Seth Meyers and they brought up her time on ADW with a clip and all and she seemed genuinely touched, mentioning her friendship with Lisa Bonet (she’s also good friends with Cree Summers, but I haven’t a clue as to when/how they became friends…maybe through Lisa?)

It’s too bad that there seems to be a big intractable road block to having a reunion show (or even limited series) with everyone as their characters as well as some of the children. I think it would be fun to see where everyone is in life and acknowledge the passing of beloved characters).

Thank you @dragonfliesfor posting this. I had not seen this reunion special and it made me go and seek it out to watch. A really well done episode too in which RTT was able to get almost all of the key principles to say something- a really thoughtful touch to include Marisa.
Hearing Dawnn talk about how she initially thought that the show would be filmed in NYC because she, Lisa and Marisa were all there made me wonder if the vibe of the first season might have been different had it been filmed in NYC.

Really touching special though.

The entire interview is worth a listen but what Allen has to say about ADW is very interesting. Her tone is believable when she says that a reboot is something that she is still working on. At 13:14 is when the discussion turns to ADW.

As much as I don't love a re-boot of any kind, these are fascinating times to set a sitcom on the campus of a HBCU.  My only question would be where would one derive the comedy from in the situation?  I wouldn't want an obtuse Whitley-type needing to learn lessons on modern culture, just as I wouldn't want to make fun of young students fighting for awareness and representation.

Ever heard of the Howard scammer? The jokes write themselves. Some of the creative finessing that has happened at some schools (not just HBCU) as a result of financial constraints brought about some mayhem. I think there is quite a bit of comedy to be mined beyond stock characters. Some of the thorny issues within the Black community that had a quick comedic turn the first go around in the original series that are still with us and can be excavated in even more depth, from the lens of 21st century perspectives.

ICAM!  IMO, ADW is that rare, socially-conscious sitcom whose relevance never dipped, especially within the African-American community.  If anything, you could watch an episode today and get depressed over how little has changed.

I know Bill Cosby is a big reason why all attempts to reboot ADW have failed, but I also feel like the times have changed a little bit even from when he still was in the news everyday.  As a country, we're still outraged by his actions, but we've also had time to put some things in perspective, too.  I think we're at a place now, hopefully, where we can separate the man and his deep, psychological issues with women from his output as an entertainer, including ADW.  We get that still watching and supporting ADW or even "Cosby" doesn't mean we also support Bill and condone everything that he has done in his personal life.

Exactly! And if you don’t laugh, you cry. Thank goodness we’ve been able to laugh. I mean, Shazza Zulu is still very much alive and thriving and adapting Dr. Sebi’s recipes for his own blogs. If you can’t laugh about hoteps, you just are incapable of laughing.

Hell, racism, colorism, sexism…take your pick or all of the above…all evergreen.
