RHOBH - in the promo wasn't there another trip (maybe to the far east)?  There are three more episodes before the end of the season, and they filmed the reunion on Friday?  But, wasn't there a trip out of the country (which admittedly seems odd given that the season was filmed at the second height of the pandemic)?  If so, they'd better go already, we know it usually takes them a full episode to pack.

I can see that. Living with guilt is the worst, and so is self-hatred. Perhaps this is a coping mechanism to deal with that. Mostly, though, I think Erika is furious at having been humiliated by these charges. Her inability to show empathy to the victims could be because she blames them partly for bringing the charges in the first place and upsetting her lifestyle / carefully contrived image.

Ha! I wish it were the Far East! No, those borders are mostly closed off to us (and maybe ours to them). In any case, I believe the 'cast trip' is to San Diego? I know they went to Lake Tahoe earlier this season, and then Kyle's place in Palm Desert? So it is Celebrate California season on BH.

Great opening episode!

Jen Shah briefly toned down the aggression and thirst with a soft-spoken, vulnerable opening turn -- which means she probably hired a PR firm during off-season to change up her image. Judging by the screaming and claw-pointing in the season trailer, not to mention her disastrous social media, the old Jen Shah will be back.

Anybody notice that 70s old-timey music that plays every time Mary leads a prayer? LOL. Mary is such an odd bird, which is what I perversely enjoy about her. One of her podcast minions later shows up in the trailer telling Lisa Barlow that, yes, Mary is running a cult. I believe it -- she is now saying God practically birthed her. It makes me think back to OC's most recent season and Lizzie Vargas talking about how as a child she pretended to speak in tongues to convince the cult that God was speaking through her.

Jennie seems a good addition thus far, with a fascinating backstory and open, matter-of-fact personality. Her daughter is already amazing with that "not B-sian" line.

I love how much *fire* Meredith has this episode, not to mention her interesting fashion choices. Nice to see hunky Seth back. Totally get her defending Brooks, who looked a little shell-shocked at the backlash he copped from the audience last season. Brooks had been a little too eager right off the bat, but Jen Shah's social media response was pretty homophobic and instigated the crazies. So Meredith wins this round, and she's entitled not to want Jen in her life after that. Having said that, I really hope Brooksgate/V-gate does not drive the entire season.

Lisa 'Mahogany' Barlow is so enjoyable to watch, I can't help it! First of all, that voice. All I can hear is Vanessa Bayer's impression. Yassssss I love thahhhht. Amaaaaaaayzeen. No question: if you look up Fairweather Friend in the dictionary, you will see Lisa Barlow. She has jumped on a Jen Shah alliance (which she later dumps, according to the season trailer). She also thinks she's a boss brokering a boardroom pact between Meredith-Jen. My prediction? Lisa is about to get burned. I suspect she 'loaned' or 'invested' some money in Jen Shah's business -- all the signs in the trailer/at last season's reunion seem to point to that.

Whitney is fun. I sort of forget she's on the show until her segments come up.

I left reunion feeling ambivalent about Heather. She had some funny moments this episode, but I guess the ambivalence hasn't quite dissipated because I wondered whether she was laying it on thick with the 'friendship juice' speech. She seems desperate to prove herself as Jen's BFF, and judging by her WWHL interview after (where she Mentioned It All -- even Andy looked worried for her from a legal standpoint), she is still committed to supporting Jen.

@Cat & @Taoboi  so now the question becomes will it still take them a day to pack for a two hour car drive?

She may have hired a firm, but I bet she didn't pay them

Did anyone else notice that those podcast mikes were not plugged in, nor is her podcast available on Apple or Spotify?

The idea that Brooks is still figuring out his sexuality was a little hard to swallow, but introspection and self-awareness are not the strong suits of either Housewives nor their families.

Both sons were wearing Off White sweaters to shabbot, (the knitwear goes for $800 on the Neiman Marcus website) love thahhht

Darling, of course. Mikey Minden only has two hands!

Plus The Coven feel they MUST over-pack because they are in some weird creepy competition with each other as to who owns the most outfits.

I guess great minds truly think alike since I see @Cat got to the premiere first. lol.

I thought it was a great opener. And I also thought it was eerily similar to the whole view of POTOMAC Season 5 pre-fight. We got a flashforward to what was to come, some post-arrest scenes, and then flashback to two months earlier. And we got to focus on reunion fallout, how the girls were doing, and a light glaze over how they were affected pandemic. It looked like they are going to join the ranks of NJ, POTOMAC, etc where you can barely see hints of the pandemic at all. Good job, Production.

That of course meant that we got to dig in a little bit more. I am curious to see if the arrest narrative will be done like last season Meredith drama was done. Like a slow burn soap opera. And by the way...SETH IS MINE, CAT!!

JEN. Well, looky-looky at that tea that she spilled this episode. So Coach Shah was going to divorce her? Whatever could have changed in the last few months that he stayed? Things that made me go hmmmm. Or maybe that is why Jen is being nicer starting out...she had to be a Stepford wife for a while. I admit that I liked the less-is-more with her. We got to see more of her family...LIKE THE AUNT WHO STARTED THE MARY/JEN FEUD LAST SEASON!!! We got to see her hottie son Sheriff...who can get it.  And we see the Jen/Heather friendship took a hit post-reunion. Coming into the season, Jen has a bit going on....husband drama, friends drama, and the forthcoming arrest. So...definitely not boring, but not over the top like she was last season. So far so good.

HEATHER.  I admit while I liked her shattering Fabulous Ice last season, a not nice side popped out Heather at the reunion. So I was not sure how I would take to her this season. I am sad to say that so far, outside of her family scenes and the scene where she ordered for everyone, my reaction to her was meh. Coming into the season she has her feud with Fabulous Ice and so far My Fabulous Ice is paying her dust really.

MARY. Mary stays love. And I see in next week's sneak peek that is currently out we see ANOTHER of her relatives. She stays bring the koozy and I will not get over how effortless she shades Jen every chance she gets.

WHITNEY. LORD, GUUURL!!! Her drunken self vs the cake was hilarious. Other than that, she is kinda there.

JEANNIE. I agree with others. Great intro. Great addition. Good backstory. And they tied her to Fabulous Ice. It will be interesting to see how she reacts with the others. And her whole vibe reminds me of comedian/actress Awafina which I was not minding. And there is NOT A THING wrong with fugly. I once had a guest at my old job would was a perfect body Korean guy. There always seem to be a body stereotype on Koreans here in the US which he did not resemble at all. And I had the biggest crush, but my coworkers all though he was fugly. But hey, I like big noses, hate all you want. lol. It was not until his last day I found out the feelings WERE MUTUAL. Awwww  But I get what Jeannie is saying.

LISA. Let me put my hand on my chest Fabulous Ice style, mouth dropped open like her, and eyes widened like her and say I cannot believe how open she was. I LOVE IT!!!! There was always a hint of frost to her and I loved her style...everything EricFake wished she was. But that is all here this season. But there was something new that I loved. What was it? WARMTH. For someone who let us know from go that she will do what she wants, it was clear Fabulous Ice DID take note of how she came across and is pivoting while staying true to herself. And that makes so much more layered and complex for me. Coming into the season she has a good storyline too...her feud with Heather which is getting messier due to how they both want to be close to Jen. And then there is the growing (?) rift with our soap heroine Meredith due to the same issue. More messier since they have 10 years of friendship on the line. It was so surprising to me how last season they were thick as thieves, but this opener it is not as true as it was.

MEREDITH. Awwww....our soap heroine. That was all she was last season. And it was a great relatable story. Her marriage unraveling...and the gossip that came from it, revealing who her real friends was. And like the soap heroines of old...just when they get some happiness, more drama come their way. Not only does our heroine have to navigate this growing rift with her BFF and the fact her friendship with the gossiper is OVER, but now she has to deal with her father's death (and that was so triggering for me since my father's anniversary is coming up and I am TRYING to not get in my feels this year) and the harassment of her son not helped by the gossiper. So like the soap heroines of old, Meredith is doing what she did from time to time...she is showing her strength. Her fire. There were hints last season that this beautiful cat had claws and was not afraid to get into it. Some of my favorite scenes was when she did this. So all I have to say so far for Meredith is...SECOND SEASON CURSE WHO? BORING WHAT?

Great start. Can't wait for next week.

@j swift lol. It will be some deleted scenes in one of their NEVER BEEN SEEN episodes cuz they will skip packing this close to the end of the season.

Nope, but I expect nothing less from kooky Mary and her band of followers! See you next week for podcast #2, guys! Maybe we should take call-in questions! Cue the men rounding up the congregation to disguise their voices and call in.

Maybe he didn't want to dignify anything with an answer. Sometimes it's about self-definition, not about other people defining you or forcing you to make a statement. As Brooks points out, Jen was retweeting stuff about him being 'sissy,' and that's all about disparaging him.

Seriously, this is now stuck in my head!

Spooky! But you know what, I haven't been able to watch Potomac yet, lol.

Re: Seth. Technically, he is 50% Meredith's, 50% Canton, Ohio's!

For a long time I thought Fabulous Ice referred to Meredith! But yes, I know how you feel re: Lisa Barlow. Look, I reserve the right to change my mind next week, but this week I couldn't get enough of the schmoozing tan muffin! What a turnaround. Last season, I thought she was a little boring! Reunion, she drank a Red Bull and woke up. Speaking of, let's not forget this wannabe-classic:

Rhoslc Lisa Barlow GIF - Rhoslc Lisa Barlow Receipts - Discover & Share GIFs

...whereupon Bravo rolled footage to discover that Heather was right and Lisa was wrong.

But you know what? I kind of love that Lisa Barlow is not as bright as she thinks she is. Bring it on! I think any fallout with Meredith will be extra-impactful (and not just an alliance going south) because as you say, it is/was an actual friendship prior to filming.

Yes! Meredith is total Soap Heroine material!

Oh, you have no idea how spooky! lol. You see...Due to work inventory, trying to have a social life again, and now more family drama, I am still on LAST WEEK'S POTOMAC!!! Since that's Must See TV for me, I'm shocked that I've been so busy and tired that I haven't gotten around to it. Fingers crossed for tonight.

And Canton? Really? BECAUSE lol I have a lost love there who was military and ex-co-worker. Found out another ex-co-worker just randomly moved there. Emphasis on random. He was our 'Jax' (VPR, not GH) so given they were...very close, shall we say...and he knows no one else out there...well...I didn't realize I was in that much of a triangle?

Lord, my life... should write a soap.

You did??? lol. I love me some Fabulous Ice and her Type A personality and love of Diet Coke. She reminds me of an old friend of mine...who is the same way. I enjoyed her on camera last season and she looks like she will be fun this season, too. And messy. And YAS that was a hilarious scene from the reunion.

And I expect that if Lisa/Meredith fall out for real, it will be explosive.

Glad to see Potomac and SLC pulling in healthy numbers. @Cat & @Taoboi and everyone, thanks for the awesome recaps. I'm swamped at work these days so I'm just dipping in to get caught up on the gossip.

My excitement over SLC's Season 2 premiere reminded me of my same feelings when the second season of Beverly Hills began. I love these "characters" and what they bring. With Whitney, I know her premiere was soft, but she is full of win in my book because she comes off as dumb but is smart. That cake! Falling off the plate THREE times! LOL That was funny. I loved how she still presented the busted cake to the family with candles lit.

I'm glad they're going to bring up the "cultness" of Mary's church. As much as I can giggle at her and her church folk all pumped up with the Holy Spirit on their non-aired podcast, at the same time I roll my eyes at the lies ridiculousness of it all.

I'm still Team Heather, but I do see the cracks in the facade. I tried to navigate her viewpoint on WWHL when she says she stands by Jen Shah, warts and all. It was telling that she admitted she realized a long time ago that something about Jen's business wasn't 100% ethical, but I disagree with her standing by her friend's side -- a friend who knowingly, methodically, and purposely targeted individuals to scam them. No, you HAVE to speak up and state your thoughts. We don't need a Rinna 2.0.

Fabulous Ice, lol, definitely won me over come reunion last year. Before that, I thought she was the weak link of the group. But having an alliance with Jenn, a friendship with Meredith that's on thin *ice*, plus the ongoing tension with Heather makes Lisa Barlow an integral part of the cast.

Meredith is just a joy to watch. That slow, thoughtful way she speaks. Her family dynamic. Plus, watching her go from calm to angry is fascinating. She's one of those who remains grounded even when pissed off, but you just know one of these days she's going to POP off on someone (watch out Jen)

Side Note: The winter wonderland porn is back! So smart to keep filming during the winter months. The views from Meredith's house and Jen's rental are GORGEOUS.

@Gray Bunny I feel ya, work has been a horror show! And we're barely halfway through September! I still haven't had a second to watch Potomac, and didn't even properly finish BH last week! Not from lack of wanting/trying, either.

@Faulkner It is all suspiciously quiet, and with weirdly little triumphalism from  both sides. Maybe it was a draw. And maybe Erika is finally inching away from social media.

POTOMAC

And so it begins.

And by begins, I meant the icing out. You would think this group would have learned after last season...not to mention other HW shows...that is not a good thing sometimes. But here we go with the Green Eyed Bandits' latest attempt to ice out someone. This time it's La Dame and Wendy. We know that won't stick due to the fabulousness of La Dame, but it should be an interesting ride.

I am playing catch-up and it was a nice day to day episode on one hand. But on the other hand, kinda low key. But not in that easy breezy way I like. Especially since it took me a while to get to it even though I am busy.

LA DAME. Sooooooooooooo this is THE Vivian? lol. I think some of you know that Vivian was a potential cast member and a real friend to La Dame. But alas. Meanwhile, it was nice to see La Dame planning her vow renewal. It was even better that The Dream Team (c)Yolanda Hadid...La Dame, Wendy, and Messy Mia. All they were missing was Askale. I loved that they came out of the first trip bonded and looking fierce to boot.

GIZELLE. So now we are messaging from Robyn now? Okay? Rme. And now she is trying to spin the narrative of being in the know on Pastor Holy Whore cheating. Girl, bye. That just means that she looks even more stupid for sticking with him since her own kids don't like him. That said...I do give her credit for her and Robyn taking their friendship 'on the road' and doing podcasts that hopefully people can relate to. Given the filming during the pandemic, that could be inspiring.

ROBYN. Speaking of inspiring, I like that Robyn is getting inspiring enough to want to get out of her depression and work to getting motivated. I had a similar situation as of late so that actually did resonate with me.

WENDY. God, is she ever going to get rid of that voice? I did like that Wendy was being with her family or hanging with her family.

CANDIACE. Why do I feel like Chris and her are acting a la NJ Joe and Melissa in terms of their manager/husband drama? Because I don't feel that Chris is at all taking her seriously and I feel like she was not at all being serious. Could the facade she has been trying to craft (or Production is trying to craft) of her changing being just that...a facade? I would say YES. Especially since her weakness is her rivalry with Ashley. No one outside of her mother now triggers her like no other. Because her trying to start mess when the GEB all are ready to keep it moving with Ashley is revealing not how messy Ashley is (and Ashley owns that she is), but how transparent Candiace is. She should stay focused on her music.

ASHLEY. I continue to be so amazed at how close her and La Dame have become. Night and day from Season 1. That said...I do live for Ashley vs Candiace because I have always said that Candiace is basically at this point Season 1 Ashley (okay maybe Season 2 now) so they stay evenly matched. And I guess in some ways I find it more interesting than even Gizelle vs La Dame.

MIA.  I think from here on out I'm just going to call her Messy Mia. While I am sure that she is very Team La Dame, her back and forth between the groups like a social floater has started to interest me. Because she gets tied up in knots and then bumbles out it...kinda like old school Karen in a way. But that does not at all take away from her being messy by telling La Dame and Wendy they were not invited to Robyn's bday dinner and who was behind the invite (aka Gizelle). And then she went to it. Just...messy!!!

Low key episode. Will be back later to discuss Candiace vs Ashley (and Gizelle vs La Dame) Part 2.

@Faulkner in terms of BH reunion tea outside of what Cat mentioned about a deleted (cuz it was an old picture allegedly and @Cat anything new from the Coven?) picture and a picture of Garcelle and Sutton having celebrity drinks with their makeup teams after the reunion, very little. such a contrast to last reunion where they had to flaunt their egos.

Apparently, Andy and Ex Soap Opera Star were drumming up promotion for it. While I haven't went to see what she said, Andy thought it was a good reunion per his Radio Andy and that he claims he asked all the real questions. And the legal talk during the reunion got 'spirited.' And there was more Dorit vs Garcelle if I remember correctly what tea he gave.

HOLLYWOOD LIFE did an article where they said Garcelle tore Ms. Rinna a new one and that was the big fight at the reunion. But I don't know how reliable they are.

ETA. Oops. I apparently didn't see the link you had Faulkner to the actual article and missed Cat's tweet about  the ratings. Stupid computer connection issues. My apologies.

@Gray Bunny I just found out that some work responsibilities that I usually take over in December (making me basically ON-CALL) has been sprung on me 3 months early. Ugh. I just got done doing a two week inventory at my other job so I feel ya on feeling swamped. All I want to do is work on my latest novel.
