NYC

I loved the opening scenes of all the ladies living their daily lives. Sonja washing her sex toys in the dishwasher and Dorinda asking about the $4 profit margin for water was great.

Sonja's daughter is right, she needs a cute two bedroom with a balcony. She needs to get rid of that damn townhouse. It is an albatross.

Tom's penthouse! Holy crap! Moving on up, LuAnn!

Dorinda vs Sonja...sigh. It's a shame because I like them both.

I don't give a damn about Carole being obsessed with the election. Old news.

You've gotta hand it to Bethenny, unloading that apartment in a day is pretty great.

Ramona coming out swinging right out of the gate. Terrific.

Ramona is f-cking ruthless. That last scene with she and Luann had me rolling. However, I pity Luann for being so desperate to be married. Like Ramona said, she is gonna fall flat on her face at the end of the day. Tom is just not loyal. A blind man can see he only hitched his wagon to Luann b/c he wanted on the show.

I think Bethenny was in a dark place last season, and I think we're gonna get a more light Bethenny this season. She just seems like she's in good spirits.

This might be yet another good season of NYC.

NYC was so fun last night - I'm glad we have these ladies back!  They don't allow this show to go back to toxic (like S4)... and they still know how to make it lighthearted, even though we're dealing with serious sh!t like infidelity, drugs, etc.

What the hell happened with NYC? The production values were top notch, that opening is stunning and everything looks so expensive. This is fast becoming the franchise to watch. I know some don't like Bethenny or Carole, but this cast is PERFECT in my opinion. We will see about Tinsley, but for the past two-three years they just seem so dependable to entertain me and not overwhelm me with darkness. I literally can't give you one complaint about this season opener.

Very happy with the NYC premiere. They're planting the seeds for this season's feuds, but at the same time included fun, light moments. The past couple weeks, Bravo re-aired seasons 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8. It reminded me of how Bethenny really helped rejuvenate this series. Season 7 was kind of a mix of the old "new" girls still there (Heather, Kristen), along with the return of the Big B, and then season 8 was a perfect mix of the newer new New York.

The vets Ramona, Bethenny, Luann, Sonja, semi-vet Carole, and Dorinda make for a great show. A seventh person always adds a lil drama and new excitement into the mix, but isn't necessary. I had no problem with Jules, and hopefully this new chick will gel nicely with the rest.

It's funny. Watching the premiere episode, it's great how nine season later, and Ramona and LuAnn can still make their bickering seem fresh. They were the catalysts of season 5's reboot, and here they are another 5 years later still arguing and making up all over again.

BTW, not to diss Ramona who looks amazing at 60, but her looks are starting to catch up to her age. Up until a couple years ago, if someone told me she was in her mid 40's, I would've believed you.

    • There is no dispute that Jill Farren Phelps had a successful career in daytime based on longevity, but that does not preclude discussion and dislike of her decisions at various shows. Sure there may have been some misogyny involved BITD(we don't know as I don't recall JFP ever mentioning that) but the head of CBS Daytime at that point was a woman and there were other women involved BTS. I think that so long as an EP could deliver, or at least talk a good game they would be respected.
    • It surprises/disappoints me too that GL's ratings during '89-'93 don't reflect the quality of the show. But when I call it great soap, I'm not defining that by ratings either.  I'm probably in the minority, but I think Reilly takes something intangible with him when he goes. There's a sense of humor that just disappears in '93.
    • Ok, I know nothing about Another World except their catchy intro song from long ago, but this makes me want to catch!  That crazy mother keeping her son's girlfriend or wife hostage, wow!
    • And maybe Hotel could have been placed at 9pm Tues instead of Paper Dolls. Not that I thing it was a surefire thing but at least viewers were familiar with the show and it might have done better than PD. ABC's line up was pretty threadbare at that point. And with a big guest star to launch the season - Elizabeth Taylor- the numbers would have been there initially.
    • Any fan of RuPaul would dispute calling any of these examples “drag”. A costume?, A disguise?, A lame attempt at humor? -- yes -- Drag? -- nope
    • No asterisk. I meant that the circumstances during the first year were in her favor.
    • Maybe I am misunderstanding you? Are you suggesting that her success at GL should have an asterisk next to it because she was smart enough to exploit a weakness in the marketplace to gain ratings?  Note: Try not to take this personally—I’m not accusing anyone of being consciously misogynistic. I’m simply proposing that the origins of certain ideas about Ms. Phelps—such as claims that she was unprepared or a poor manager of her writing staff—may be rooted in misogyny. Perhaps, with the benefit of hindsight, it's worth reconsidering those opinions. At the very least, imagine being one of the few women in the room while a male network executive tries to decide what women want to watch during the day. That context has certainly led me to reassess many of my own long-held views.
    • Through 78 and 79 under Marland and Pat Falken smith GH was still heavily hospital based with a mix of storylines. The Doctors would have been fine had they followed that template. Once GH went with Ice Princess all bets were off.Who knows how much TD would have copied that direction? And OLTL, DOOL went in that direction quite heavily while other shows dabbled in far out stories. The thing is that TD was well set up for an expansion.

    • Aaron Spelling still had clout with ABC in Fall 1984, as I think they knew he was going to pull out all the stops for Dynasty to get to #1, which he did. That's probably why ABC kept Hotel as Dynasty lead out. Fall 1985 with the sale to Capital Cities and Brandon Stoddard arrival, Aaron Spelling would lose his clout with ABC.
