GH: MICHAEL RECAST

I don't know what his issues/problems are, and I don't want to go all Nelson Branco. But he did seem to get along well with his co-stars, at least both Laura Wright and Steve Burton sent out Tweets about how surprised they were about his firing and how well they got on.

BTW, how soon before Nelson prints some horrid gossip about why Drew was fired and how ABC and GH are in the right?

I have no idea how old this guy is, but he has done two Disney movies as far as I can tell. Has he done anything else and sucked? I though that MM was mediocre on VM and yet some people love him on Y&R. William Russ is far better actor than almost everyone on Y&R and I saw people complaining and celebrating when Stephen Nichols was cast in the role of Tucker. These things are hard to predict.

I think something happened behind the scenes. I don't buy that Guza's hand was forced in anyway because that kind of thing rarely happens on GH. I think that Jennifer Bransford/Carly situation was the last time.

There have been rumors about DG having issues so no need for Branco or ABC on that one.

Ah, yes. Tammin Sursok's Alleged Sony Benefactor! Maybe there is an Alleged Disney Benefactor on the prowl? Or has Frons already cornered that market?

I still think this is an eleventh hour casting. And by "eleventh hour," I don't mean that at 10am yesterday, Drew Garrett went into work, threw a hair straightener at one of the make-up staff, was fired by JFP who at 11am put in a call to a bunch of casting agents. I'm thinking there was an incident or maybe somebody more established in the cast made a complaint a few weeks ago, which got Garrett placed on some sort of probation. Between then and yesterday, Teschner called in a few potential emergency recasts. But the long-term plan until then had been to keep Garrett.

I haven't seen ABC show those colors in this situation as yet. ABC's PR was very professional. ABC didn't send out its favorite hatchet man, Michael Logan to do the usually dirt work. For now, ABC's hands are clean as far as I can tell.

That's true. Their initial statement was brisk and to the point -- and gave absolutely nothing away.

How very unlike OLTL where both Brett Claywell and Scott Evans had their professional reputations besmirched in one wink-wink guess-which-one-is-the-druggie leak.

Don't forget the PR statement where ABC lied to cover that they had fired Greg Vaughan to hire Jonathan Jackson. It was followed soon after by the Michael Logan pack of lies article. We'll know it when ABC goes after DG.

Somebody at DC pointed out that it has been a year since Drew Garrett started at GH (April 2009). This could actually be a contract dispute and that's it. DG signed a one-year contract, wanted more money. GH said no. And off he went.

Networks don't start contract negotiations a month before they expire. It is not good business practice. Contract negotiations start several months before the contract ends so that financial considerations can be determined and stories can be put in place or wrapped.

    • The timing is strange, though. How far in advance would they normally be on location? The Achille Lauro hijacking was on October 7, 1985. Nancy had arrived in Egypt in the storyline by October 18. But the character of Hawk, Chris' Native American friend from Arizona, had already appeared onscreen by September and brought a letter telling Chris to be in Egypt by October 25th.  Why did they already have the link to Arizona before the reason to cancel the shoot in Egypt?  The dust and the jar it came in were from Egypt though. Nancy bought it there and sent it to Mac as a gift before she came back to the states and followed Chris to Arizona.
    • Actually that is not what happened. Nor is the timing right for it to have been. We learned from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay  in 2006, which can be found on YT, that it was Fred Silverman's idea to do the 90 minute show. I don't know how much you know about him but he had these amazing successes as head of daytime at both ABC & at CBS. Then he came to NBC where basically everything he touched turned NOT TO GOLD but to shite. Some of the most expensive shows ever produced up to that time were huge flops. Although even he, like a broken clock, could be right on occasion. However, as we know, he was not right about the 90 minute show. As a matter of fact, afterward,  NBC programmers, who worked FOR him, were asked why they did it & they were quoted as saying it was because they couldn't think of anything else to try. It was a stupid idea from a man who had reached the point where he was throwing anything at the wall to see if it would stick.

    • I stopped watching Another World in 1990. Simply, lost interest in the show.  I had watched the show from 1973 to 1990. The 90 minute show started the decline of AW.  NBC panicked with expanding AW due to the GH hoopla. As mentioned above, 1982 was a trainwreck for AW.  The introduction of the Shea family, the movie storyline involving Jamie, and Steve Frame favoring Rachel over Alice. The writers went into that direction due to the forgettable performance of Linda Borgeson.

    • Ive seen that theory thrown out but the one thing against it is that Leslie and her family lived in Chicago. She only came back to DC last year after her husband died. Unless they say Alan made a trip to DC and died while away, she wouldnt know about that. However I do think the angle of her finding out that Martin was involved could work as that gives her leverage against Bill too for covering it up. She'd want to get revenge on him by threatening to have him disbarred
    • What a good write-up @Errol! Nice seeing the nod to Duplaix's lead.
    • The Egypt location shoot was cancelled because of the Achille Lauro cruise ship hijacking

    • And, to me it is a little bit hilarious that AW fans all over continue to refer to it as Egyptian Dust Recently elsewhere I've been running polls. When did you stop watching AW or What storyline caused you to stop watching AW. You may be interested to know that sticking it out till the bitter end is winning by a landslide. Next highest vote getter is - no surprise - Frankie's murder. So that covers like 60% & next 20%. Then the votes drop way down to 10% and well below but a wide array of reasons are given, including but not limited to  Justine Lumina Rachel having twins at her age, how ridiculous Mac's death the 90 minute show firing JC, George R & Dwyer Hmm, I know there are a few more, in the 1%-3% range but I cannot think of what they are. Sorry, my bad. Should have made notes but I didn't know I would be posting about it. LOL!!
