ABC: The View being considered to take Oprah's timeslot

But the affilates already have that hour. Oprah is not an ABC show, but a syndicated show.

Yeah but if they lose The View to syndication replacing Oprah that leaves an hour on the ABCD schedule to fill.

True....

Maybe they could give Aisha Tyler that timeslot and be done with it.

That's what I said at the beginning of this thread!

Ok I thought the hangup was she was the lead into the local affilates news in some of the larger media markets like New York and LA.

If they don't give that hour to the Affilates, ABC has to come up with a new program. I suppose they could do a spinoff show in that slot.

In LA, Oprah airs at 3 pm. And then we have a block of news at 4, 5, 6, and then World News with Diane. On WABC in NY they only have the 5 and 6 and then World News.

ABC's BEST option would be to spinoff one of The View's stars(Elisabeth Hasselbeck) into their own syndicated, hourlong gabfest. It may hurt the brand, but it would get rid of the show's most annoying co-host and seeing if she can swim or sink on her own by herself or surrounded by other co-hosts who have similar interests(being rich and white, motherhood, etc). Put Elisabeth in a less threatening position and develop her into the "All American Girl" persona she had on Survivor. I hate Elisabeth at times and then sometimes, I really like her and understand where she's coming from. Of everyone on The View, Elisabeth is clearly the breakout star. Oprah appeals to the same sort of demographic that Hasselbeck does and, despite how people may feel about Hasselbeck, hearing her interview people about breastfeeding, child and internet safety laws, parents dealing with their kids coming out, how to dress you schoolkid for less, etc. may play up to her strengths MORE than talking just straight politics, where I believe she's clearly out of her league.

No it wouldnt. Sheri "the earth is flat" Shep wouldd still be there.

As would Joy.

So basically from that article, the ABC O&O stations still do not have a replacement for Oprah. IIRC, the NBC O&O stations carry Ellen in the same markets that the ABC O&O stations carry Oprah, and those NBC stations are carrying her through 2014 as per that article.

It will definitely be very interesting come 2011 when Oprah does depart. It will really shake up daytime all across the board. It will be interesting if that is what is the final nail in the coffin for one of the ABC soaps.... if they do some of the timeslot shifting that has been suggested in this thread.

IMO, what really hurt ABC Daytime greatly in the last decade was not giving AMC a lead in when they canceled Port Charles. Since the ABC O&O stations have a very strong local newscast, it's beyond belief that ABC did not shift AMC down 30 minutes to air directly against Y&R at 12:30 EST. If the ABC O&O stations local news at noon is out preforming the local programming on the CBS stations at noon, AMC would have a much stronger lead in airing at 12:30 as opposed to continuing to air at 1pm with no lead in at 12:30, which is any variety of syndicated programming.

Because of this whole thing with Oprah leaving in 2011 I believe that all three ABC soaps are safe this year. It will be very interesting to see what finally happens but I don't think we're going to lose another daytime soap this year.

Would this mean one ABC soap would be cancelled to accomodate this?

Could be, according to Steve Burton GH might get cancelled

What? When did he make that statement?

While I would love the thought of GH getting cancelled over AMC and OLTL, this is NOT true. Steve Burton wouldn't have said that, and Frons would NEVER cancel GH over the other 2 ABC soaps.

At his PA on Friday, I guess you can't really know when it filter through third party source. Supposedly he also said that ABC is trying hard to keep all the show on the air.

I still doubt GH is getting cancelled, but I at least hope that ABC really is trying to hold on to all their soaps.
