GH: November Discussion Thread

I tuned out once Sonny and co. started a mob war right outside Laverne and Shirley's apartment! It was nice to see Franco (reeeeeal nice--he looked good), but I don't see how regular GH watchers can put up with the crap all the time.

PS: Isn't it adorable when non-soap watchers are amazed by things that die-hard soap watchers are completely jaded with? I was watching GH with a friend yesterday and he thought it was SO clever that it looked like Lucky caught Liz and Nik but then it was revealed that he didn't. Obviously, he's never watched DAYS.

I don't care about the latest Jason is our hero stuff, although Franco being an artist reminds me of Sara Bibel complaining about GH's anti-elitism, ie, Kiefer going to Harvard and looking down on Sonny, so Kiefer is a woman-batterer.

I'm more interested in the continuing sidelining of poor Johnny, as we now have him getting hysterical about "two-faced" Dante, to facilitate the breakup with (o)livia. And meanwhile, as Johnny goes crazy, we see Dante bonding with Sonny, who is such a sweetheart.

This story sucks so much, the only part I probably enjoyed is that some of the non-soap reviewers had a not too kind reaction to (o)livia in their comments on the show.

ITA. The tons of Olivia bashing was loads of fun. LOL! There was quite a bit of negative commentary about GH as a whole. Unlike the soap press, the non-soap reviewers are not holding their tongues.

Check out this great GH article: http://www.doublex.c...show-television

I found two comments from the article especially telling (oh, and Thanks for the link):

Franco (Milk, Pineapple Express, Spider-Man, a number of charming, self-skewering Web videos) has been extremely vague and mysterious about what he, a talented, up and coming, A-list actor is doing slumming it on daytime,

At HuffPo, which actually posted about Franco's stint on GH, many of the comments from the time I read the article seemed to be of the same consensus...he's 'slumming' in daytime and some feared it was a sign his career was over.

As they have become increasingly marginalized, soaps have become weirder and more particular, like some species left to mutate on the Galapagos, maintaining vestigial elements no longer seen on mainland television. ...(snip)... Mostly, however, GH has taken advantage of the lack of audience to create a lawless, backwards universe, where killers are heroes and children are praised for bludgeoning their stepmothers to death.

Amen... and ok, one more, because it just gave me giggles:

Played by the hulking Steve Burton, Jason doesn’t say much, often looks like he’s smelled something bad, and always carries a loaded glock. He doesn’t quite revel in killing people, but he doesn’t stop doing it either. And within the moral code of the show, we’re supposed to admire him for not feeling gleeful about murder

I AM/We ARE sane... or at least not alone in my /our insanity if others outside of daytime think it's complete garbage that we're supposed to love the mob boys because they 'feel bad' when they 'have' to kill.

I don't care who Liz screws. I am waiting patiently for Lucky to explode on her and the Puffy Prince, turn dark and start sleeping his way through PC. It will be fun.

ITA. GH has the worse male leads on all the soaps. They suck! It is bad enough that they can't act worth a damn. On top of that, the SOBs are lazy and read off the teleprompter half the time. They balk at taking off their shirts and don't care enough stay in shape! Josh Morrow may be a talentless actor, but when he takes off shirt, I pass out from those abs. When the men on GH take off their shirt, I reach for the nearest barf bag. They are either flabby or disgusting from using steroids. For all that money, the least they could do is pick up a f'ing barbell and do 50 crunches in the morning.

Good God A'Mighty

you said a mouthful!!!

The women are always bashing the ladies but hey the male leads suck!! Women don't have story unless they are attached to a male on GH...they aren't viable...

here is Matt a good looking guy they won't give him a storyline since the one he came on with (over a year I've been waiting)

IMO they have brought on new guys eg Patrick is for Robin and Scrubbies get in a rant if he says two lines to a female character (now with Lisa) there are rumblings of discontent.

Dante/Dominic, Johnny, Ethan, Greg was absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous but he too got pudgy there for awhile

but they wrote him a putz...and not in accordance to the way he should be in order to keep him in his place they wrote against the character.

GuZa holds them back he won't let them lead story or supersede JaSonny

his chosen leads in story Ingo is just a Sonny foil and has been for the most part during his entire run,

same said for Ric Hearst hung around won a couple of Emmys and finally realize the character would always be a Sonny a- kisser.

They write them to win and to have one up in story so? What is the point this Elizabeth w/Pugsley story sucks. I like Tyler am a Nik fan

but ??

I have to say NikEm fans b- and moaned every time they put him with someone he had a good deal with Courtney chemistry/storyline wise for me also he had chemistry with Claudia but they plopped her with Sonny instead of just rolling with it...its the "politics" of GH pairings its orchestrated they won't let grassroots pairings fly

(unless Frons approves it)

so he worked with what was given to him. I read a rumor once

that they didn't want Nik as a Cassadine on the mob side of the canvas so that's why they didn't do Claudia.

Which would have soften her up and offered a lot of drama IMO...

OMG my poor Stefan. SN blasted Guza at his last FCW event after he was axed from the show using a few choice 4 letter words.

Oh and don't forget dark also means throwing barware like Sonny or throwing stuff off a desk like Nikolas.

Speaking of whining, as a Quartermaine fan I was absolutely nauseaous at those crypt scenes last week with Lucky, Liz, and Nikolas. Lucky was the only one there to actually mourn. Nikolas and Liz were both whining about wanting to get into each others pants. I wish Emily would have walked out of the crypt and bitch slapped Liz. AJ could have come out and hung Nikolas on a meathook after stabbing him to death. I absolteuyl hate Guza using the Q's like this. I cry every time I see all those names listed on the crupt wall. Asshat.

Hey I'm a Liz fan and can take a licking I have to say I wanted Em to do it too (I'm an Em fan too)

they are writing her so horribly right now its my only defense for this

horrid dialog (and storyline)

Maybe Steven will come and slap some sense in her I can't watch this

Only on clips in very small doses...its terrible.

Random gripe of the moment:

Can anyone explain why GH can't be bothered to fix their awful credits so it actually reflects the people who are on the show?

I haven't watched GH in about 15 years. I just watched Friday's episode, actually just James Franco's scenes, and this show definitely lives up to its reputation: there's a lot of violence on this soap.

Today's epi was really good. Friday was just kind of so-so for me but I loved Luke meeting Franco, and the mob being at the art show and them playing out all the ridiculousness and awkwardness of that and I love seeing Jason Morgan freaking out. Who knew cyborgs could sweat? Also there was no Carly. So... BONUS!

Really good show. James Franco is great at being creepy, you almost want to yell at Maxie to get out while she still can. KS and JF work well together.

Kirsten Storms was positively dreadful in those scenes with James Franco. I was embarrassed for her. James Franco was funny making faces at the gallery. He isn't obviously isn't taking any of this seriously which I appreciate.

Steve Burton made me laugh. He is so bad. Sam needs to return that dress to hooker she borrowed it from.

There were two bits of dialogue I really liked on Tuesday's show. The first was this extended conversation between Sonny and Lucky, with a particular emphasis on the bolded part. I like that they're trying to flesh out Lucky's motivations, while also setting up the cruel irony that Sonny's son is doing the same thing to him...

Sonny: Well, you know what, lucky, that's a conversation you're going to have to have with your dad. And I gotta be honest with you, I can't imagine anything worse than your own son investigating you.

Sonny: A lot of us were surprised when you joined the force.

Lucky: You think I did it to get back at my dad?

Sonny: [sighs] Granted, Luke is one of the best men I know. He does have flaws. But he's a great person, and I think you used to think that, right?

Lucky: Yeah, well, proximity can change a person's perspective, sonny. So can growing up. My dad is -- He's the most amazing son of a bitch I've ever known. And I loved my childhood. He was crazy. And even when he tried to be like other fathers, he was just different. Like that time we went on the camping trip. You remember that?

Sonny: [Laughs] You wanted to pierce your ears like Luke's.

Lucky: Yeah. Yeah, you guys were my heroes. I know he would have preferred it if I'd have followed in his footsteps, but --

Sonny: Well, you gotta admit, lucky, it was a slap in your dad's face --

Lucky: I didn't do it to hurt people --

Sonny: Why did you?

Lucky: I don't know. Aunt ruby used to say the chickens always come home to roost. You can't tell me that you and my dad don't live with the sins of your own fathers every single day. And I just -- I just decided it had to stop with me. You know? That I -- build something better for my own children. And I decided that before cam and Jake came into my life, and I don't have any regrets so far.

Sonny: But you could have gone straight without wearing a badge. There are a million jobs.

Lucky: No, I know, man. I just, I needed to still be in the ring, you know what I'm saying? But I couldn't fight for the other side. Now justice shouldn't only be for people like you and my dad who have the muscle to take whatever you want, whenever you want it. So maybe in some way, my badge levels the playing field for people who don't have any power.

Sonny: Well, I'm sure that makes your father very proud. Even though it breaks his heart.

And I liked Spinelli's interpretation of Franco's posed-body art. It was a little like the writers telling us what they're trying to do with the vilence on the show...

Lucky: Spinelli? I need to speak to you about the exhibit.

Spinelli: Well, in The Jackal's opinion, the artist's vision is for the observer to look inward to his darkest self, instead of turning a blind eye to the brutalities of society.

All I can remember was that trash with Franco saying Maxie's pants were halfway down her thighs. To think Luza has been in this business for 30 or more years and this is the corny filth he comes up with.

Lucky's dialogue TO Sonny was great. But Sonny's dialogue after that was atrocious about how the absolute worst thing in the world that could happen is Michael (yeah right) Morgan or Kristina becoming cops. Actually, Sonny, worse than that would be one of your children becoming a killer which hey, he did! Jason's dialogue with Sam contemplating the morality of killing Franco  and Sam being his apologist for all of that wasn't much better.

As for the Franco/Maxie scenes, they didn't bug me as much as they probably should have. For some reason (probably that I've watched my Freaks and Geeks DVDs too many times) when Franco was kind of giving Maxie grief about being kind of a prude he was really reminding me more of Daniel Desario than any menacing psycho. I think it's the way JF is playing everything as if it's one big joke, which I enjoy, even though I'm not 100 percent sure it matches up with the material.
