Actually, it doesn't matter. Both versions of the theme are great--if they want to keep the same music that's wonderful. But, for the love of God, just changed the HORRID graphics of the titles--COMPLETELY. If they have to go back to those cheesy turning-to-the-camera with surprise poses that's fine, but just change it. It is just... no words.

I don't see why these are so hard and expensive. Some folks on this very board have created some completely creditable openings on their own computers.

Didn't cost me a dime.

That's was awful and plagiarism. Might get you in court.

Awful? You must be watching something else...

Anyway, aside from the unnecessary need you just felt to rain on someone's parade, DavidEvanSmith was only reiterating a point made by MarkH, that it is so easy today to create/update openings that the only real excuse is laziness. ESPECIALLY with Y&R moreso than GH, because Y&R doesn't have to go to the expense of setting up the lighting/bluescreen differently to suit the opening and all of the CGI editing that GH would need to do; Y&R uses clips from THE SHOW and would only need to use a few layers on something like Ulead VideoStudio using custom masks, add a text animation and voila, a new character shot is created; the opening isn't exactly fast paced enough that the shots need to move in time with the music so they can just slide in a fade transition and they're sorted. Laziness is the only reason for Y&R, and considering B&B seems to update their opening on a whim (ditto OLTL) there isn't really any excuse for it.

Yes, exactly DES. Yours was one of those I had in mind.

Believe it or not, I wasn't even trying to toot my own horn (if I could do that, I'd never leave the house!), but just to show that with computer programs that are FREE I have been able to edit existing footage into either a preexisting format or a format of my own design, in months (if creating a format from scratch), in days (if I'm busy with other things), or in hours (if I'm off work and have nothing else to do with my time). And I'm doing it in probably the most crude way possible, breaking things down into frames and reassembling it all into a design of my choosing in programs like photoshop and microsoft GIF animator. If I had any kind of real training in computer graphic art and the programs that the companies use to edit these things together it may take even less time, but of course would cost more money.

Anyway, I guess this was all my way of... offering to do it for free if the soaps don't want to pay anyone to do it.

And Sylph, sorry I didn't plagiarize things in a way that would be more aesthetically pleasing to you.

Here is a fan-made Y&R opening I found - it's brilliant! It could almost be used on the show.

I know we've seen it a billion times but I just had to post it again.

Jess

And I like this montage:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVzB4rWdcck&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVzB4rWdcck&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVzB4rWdcck&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Skinny Melody and dark-haired Eric

Jeanne Cooper's claw-like, jewel-encrusted fingers raised to her chin.

And Heather Tom, short-haired Tonya Lee Williams, Scott Reeves, and chesty Shemar Moore

Unnecessary Francesco Quinn <_<

Man I love the cheesiness of the porn opening for many reasons.

1.Victor looks like he is floating across the room for some reason

2. John Abbott has a dirty old man face like he is saying "Did you just see my daughter ? she is hot"l

3. Jill is all trying to act sexy and then they show Billy being like "Mom what are you doing?"

4. I love the way Nick is all like "look im a badass with inner turmoil!!!

5. Man I do not like saying this but Mac used to be way more Cute.

Yes, yes, yes. THAT works. I would want either Nadia's Theme or Porn Remix or something that picks up Nadia's Theme but is less boring (I love NT, but I really would like it to be a bit different after all these years).

But I loved the colors, and I loved the way that was done. That was exactly right, and it was actually (visually) a nice hybrid of porn and current.

An updated opening is long overdue. However, I'm not against the current opening, I did hate the porn opening though. I think it would be really nice if Y&R did a new black and white opening including a sketch of the characters face that turns into a live headshot. They should do a more upbeat version of Nadia's theme to compliment the visuals. And god, how I hate the actor's names in the opening.

The porn open was super mega fierce! I loved it! I'd take the one from the 90s as well. I just miss the glamour of that type of open.

What if it were character names? I really liked how AMC did that in their brief 2002-2003 opening

I thought it was cute how AMC had the character's signatures in the opening as well but I like having the actors names. I mean, why not? They work a hell of a lot harder than primetime actors and they get their names in the opening, why not?

I still don't see the need for a new opening. This one is classy and it's probably the best you could get out of their current budget [and their current creative stuff. Paul Rauch? Have you seen his GL openings? Yuck]. I agree that they should update the shots big time. But I love continuity on my soaps, and having the same opening since 2003 provides that to me.
