I can imagine Michael waking up to hurl abuse at his pregnant mother for days on end didn't help...not to mention the awful Ethan story.

I'm sad for OLTL. There was some good stuff last week. The anticlimax of KAD probably didn't help keep viewers around. I hope they will tune in this week as the show has been very good.

But the reruns don't count toward the ratings, I thought.

ABC soaps are down .2 and .3 in HH over last year, similar amounts in demos, and hundreds of thousands of viewers. IMO, ABC should rethink why Brian Frons still has a job.

Those are the suckage for ABC, at least there's no way to go from there but up, err...maybe. I just envisioned all 3 ABC soaps hitting the big 2.3 million viewers next ratings release with that jinx statement, heh.

I gave up years ago, when I first began to notice the butchery of this show

over the last few its been mind-boggling just absolutely horrid

the Luke dissing his relationship with Laura

and embracing a kid he wants to be his son while he ingores the one he has

probably didn't help

But I've read their ratings have "stablilized" from some posters so

I guess the 2.0 is the stabilizer...

RE: GH Re-Run strategy

I thought they re-thought it when they aired Kate shot at the alter re-run on a holiday but it didn't stop them re-airing Michaels shooting

I firmly believe they don't care. A family holiday they show a kid getting shot in the head..on Memorial Day when some fans have lost

loved ones ... not very smart.

I was thinking that the soaps did pretty good last year on Memorial Day week, but I looked it up and they didn't do that great but not that bad either. Some of them actually made some substantial gains that week in viewers.

    • In an interesting turn of irony, when Somerset came onto the airwaves in 1970... it ran against Dark Shadows and beat it in the ratings fairly quickly.  Then when Edge of Night moves to ABC in December 1975 and put against Somerset, the slow ratings rise that Somerset was allegedly having in late 1975 is derailed. From reading the write ups of the final year, the show dropped the May/December romance.. which viewers enjoyed and was getting the show some good press... the original cast member was sidelined due to medical issues, and the show featured pure crime stories without any balance. I think the crime focus was an attempt to compete with EON.  However, people that were into crime stories/mysteries weren't going to tune into Somerset for their fix.. not when Edge of Night was known for that.. and that show was running on a high quality wise when the network switch occurred.

    • Erwin Nicholson's last episode as SFT ep was 11/21. Whitesell started 11/22/85. Erwin was on board from March 8, 1985 so less than 9 months. Whitesell lasts six months (approximately) before P&G moved him to AW for two years where he primarily worked with DePriest. Whitesell was replaced on Search by no daytime experience David Lawrence who closed out the show's last six months.

    • I assume in name only?  One Stormy Night wasn't exactly steamy.  If it's a literal throwback then Stephanie's writing about sexy times her own Uncle was having lol. Since I am going to surmise it's just a throwback to the name, Night Sins and Winter Heat both sound sexier.  Just saying.  I swear Jamey (and Ron) just google things and land on the first thing they like and decide it's a good throwback to history without watching it.
    • I usually don't want Tide placement in the middle of an intense sad scene, but this is an interesting point

    • BTG joke immediately followed by an AMC joke (same context)
    • Thanks!   Was anyone watching during this time? Wondering how Peggy’s rape played out onscreen. It just seems cruel to subject the Brooks family to this trauma a 2nd time.   Feels like the writers have already given up on the character of Jennifer, even though she sticks around another year-plus. She should be a passionate and fierce protective mother, but instead she seems just reactionary (and not even mentioned in this recap) This was also the case in ‘73 when Chris was raped. The writers are definitely more invested Stuart as the Brooks parent.
