I'm with you. I don't necessarily consider myself a "purist" because I do think that there should be some evolution involved, but some things just work and the clock is one of them. Its just shrill enough, just piercing enough to add even more tension to the game.
Yep. I'm a purist, but I'm also open to new ideas. But they should just have that clock's sound.

As far as Davies goes, the only thing he's done that I've really, really liked is Chain Reaction. The Newlywed Game with Carnie...notsomuch. I only watched the first week or so, but I'm not a fan of most of GSN's recent originals (including Catch 21, which is obnoxious as hell).
I've never seen Chain Reaction. The last GSN original I really cared for was Friend or Foe. I felt like it was one of the more original game show concepts from the new decade.

An hour...eh. I guess it could work, but IMO, daytime is too small an arena for everything to be an hour. Trying to expand everything to an hour is what got us to this point in the first place.
Don't pan it before it airs. Give it a chance. Besides, I'd rather have a full hour of Pyramid than a full hour of The Dating Game.

I'm just so excited that there is a huge possibility that TPIR will no longer be the lone network daytime game. What's it been, 15 years now? Most game show fans gave up and accepted that there would be no more on network daytime, but here we are.
If the experiment works, I expect to see this spread among all three networks. Game shows and soaps go hand in hand, I absolutely agree there.

Jesse Metcalfe is such a random choice for a celebrity partner...guess he needed the money lol If it goes to series, I want some CBS Daytime stars to appear. I can imagine folks like Austin Peck, Christian LeBlanc, and Lesli Kay being really good at it.
Also keep in mind that these were pilots that may/may not air. And Ken Jennings was there at the Jesse Metcalfe taping as a contestant.

And they HAVE to have soap talent as the partners, at least during the daytime rounds.

This will sound bitchy but fcuk the game shows.
It does.

Daytime is at its best when it is equal parts games and soaps, as far as I'm concerned.

I'd also some love to see some of the old regulars on the new version, like Vicki Lawrence, Adrienne Barbeau, etc.. Terry Lester, RIP, he was really good at it:

I've read that they're shooting the Let's Make a Deal pilots on Monday and Wednesday of next week! I hope someone from the online game show community is able to make it and take pictures, give an account, etc, like what was done for the Pyramid pilots.

LMAD, I think, would work best if it's kitsched up and given a high retro factor just like TPIR. They're two different shows, but they share many similarities, and the producers would be fools not to capitalize on it. Hopefully the host is better suited for this type of show than Drew "Look at that...you uh...won both showcases...cool" Carey is.

CBS can kiss my ass cuz I will NOT be tuning in to watch whatever replaces GL. They have lost me for that hour.

It's frustrating that they are throwing all this money at ATWT when it's ratings are WORSE than GL's were when GL was forced into budget cuts. What the [!@#$%^&*], people!

GL will be replaced by Ellen Wheeler on "The Surreal Life: Ultra Washed-Up Edition"

Vanilla Ice was deemed to be not washed-up enough to make a return to the show.

Well the new Executive Producer of Price is in charge of Deal, IIRC.

But I'd rather have Pyramid back on television than Let's Make a Deal.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for pilot set photos.

Well, GL owns a 60-minute slot, right? So I'm guessing there will be two game shows.

Nope. They are both hourlong pilots and CBS Execs will have to choose between the two shows.

In the link I previously posted, the guy gave a detailed account of the rundown of $1,000,000 Pyramid and that the runtime is exactly one hour.

Ugh. I missed that one-hour thing.

While TPIR does fine at one hour, I mostly hate games that go too long.

Even Millionaire is better, IMO, in 30 minute format.

Does anyone remember the horrible 80s version of Match Game/Hollywood Squares hosted by Jon "Bowzer" Bauman (of Sha Na Na)?? Per Wiki:

The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour was a American television game show that combined two long-running game shows of the 1960s and 1970s — Match Game and Hollywood Squares — into an hour-long format. The series ran from October 31, 1983 to July 27, 1984 on NBC. Gene Rayburn hosted the Match Game and Super Match segments, while Jon Bauman hosted the Hollywood Squares segment. Gene Wood was the show's regular announcer with Johnny Olson, Rich Jeffries, and Bob Hilton substituting during the run. The series was a joint production of Mark Goodson Productions and Orion Television, who owned the rights to Squares at the time.

I will not watch or tape any tacky show that replaces GL - may watch Meerkat Manor reruns on Animal Planet - it's a better soap then lot of the soaps, but will follow GL if it goes to another network or watch GL online.

:P

Maybe they'll take the remaining cast of GL and do a 'reality' show called "I'm a Telenext survivour - get me out of here"

I'd rather have Pyramid than LMAD too. LMAD would be extremely hit or miss. It'd either be a great success or fail miserably...and I'm betting on the latter.

Millionaire is better because of Meredith Vieira!

Nope, but I've heard of it. Does that count?

The suspense factor is in Pyramid, which is why I think it would be the better choice. What's more interesting...watching someone pick the wrong door or seeing someone try to give coherent clues with the contestant's heart literally racing?

Not to mention they could strip semifinal and final rounds during sweeps or during the summer in primetime.

Pyramid has to be picked because it is one of my faves. Go Pyramid! I could watch it for an hour.
