May 11, 200916 yr Member I'm stealing directly from the much-missed DaytimeFan's Jess Walton thread when I write: I start this thread in support of Melody Thomas Scott, the 30-year veteran of Y&R, who has engaged in acrimonious contract negotiations with SONY. I ask that anyone who supports MTS add something to this thread to let SONY know that if MTS goes...well you know the rest. Whose with me!? In the previous thread, we shared these contact modalities: CBS: http://www.cbs.com/info/user_services/fb_global_form.shtml. May 11, 200916 yr Member I personally can take or leave Melody Thomas Scott/Nikki on some days, but I am not naive to the fact she is an integral part of Y&R. Victor and Nikki whether some like it or not is something this show has revolved around for the better part of the past 30 years. Losing MTS would be a huge blow!
May 11, 200916 yr Member I'll be very disappointed if MTS is not given a fair deal. She's as much a part of Y&R as EB (God bless him) and PB.
May 11, 200916 yr Member Nikki was one of the characters who first drew me into Y&R. She is, as Camille Paglia said, everything daytime drama represents. And MTS has always given her utmost. Seeing her character phased out has been hard to watch. Whatever happens I hope Melody comes out well in this.

Seeing her character phased out has been hard to watch. Whatever happens I hope Melody comes out well in this. With a low number of appearances, and saddled with a "romance" that is seldom seen using another back-burnered vet....they seem to have been preparing for this for some time. I guess Paul and Nikki will just walk out into the sunset. I'm really sad. I'd like to see them double her guarantee (even at a low rate of pay) so we see more of her while she keeps her overall rate of pay pretty similar. I think Nikki driving story, on the front burner, could still be amazing.
May 11, 200916 yr Member It's unrealistic in these economic times that soap stars wouldn't have to take pay cuts. Susan fuckin' Lucci had to take a heafty pay cut, if MTS thinks she's above that, then that's her problem. She can't keep on making the same type of money she made when soaps were at their peak, it's indeed a different day. I want MTS to stay and I want a deal that's fair, but let's say she refuses any sort of cut, then I have very little sympathy for her. And I do not buy that this sexist agenda. The only way to know that is when a male star who is renegotiating his contracts leaks to the press.

I think Nikki driving story, on the front burner, could still be amazing. I just wish we'd seen more of this relationship with Paul. We usually only see Nikki with Katherine, or more often, when it's time for Victor to browbeat her. A sad way to usher out a character who was critically important to making and keeping Y&R the #1 soap, and this is also one of the main reasons my opinion of Victor has taken a big hit over the past year. I've never been able to believe Victor has had this much outright loathing for her.
May 11, 200916 yr Member It is unfortunate. I am fatalistic about the soaps of late so I am accepting of whatever is going to happen. She has had a long well paid career on Y&R. Hopefully, she has been saving all along and is good financial shape.
May 11, 200916 yr Member [Nikki] is, as Camille Paglia said, everything daytime drama represents. You mean, a naive young girl from the proverbial "wrong side of the tracks", who was doomed to a life as a common stripper, before a very rich and powerful man "rescued" her and molded her into someone of elegance and refinement? If that is what daytime drama is, then no wonder the "mainstream press" gives them no respect.
May 11, 200916 yr Member This certainly isn't the first time contract talks have been tense with MTS. If she outright refused any salary cuts, then she's being completely unrealistic in these times.

May 11, 200916 yr Member I'd hate to see MTS leave w/o even the possibility of going recurring/off-contract; but, you know, I'll adjust. I always do.
