January 9, 200917 yr Author Administrator I'm so happy to see The Dark Knight gaining momentum with the WGA, DGA, and PGA noms! Hopefully they can get one more stepping stone (the SAGs) closer to the Oscars.

With the bias against Wall-E being an animated film and all, The Dark Knight should have no problem securing a spot for Best Picture at the Oscars, but that's not a sure thing of course. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences skews older, and The Dark Knight might not be the cup of tea of a lot of older voters. However, it's enormous box office success could be more than enough to push it into the race, though, I seriously doubt The Dark Knight could walk away with the Best Picture prize at the end of award season. January 9, 200917 yr Member Saw Doubt tonight and my god what amazing acting from Streep, Hoffman, the whole cast. Oh and Viola Davis should win the oscar for Best Supporting Actress.... and she only had like 5 minutes of screentime! Her presence was just amazing and her scenes I did not see coming from a mile away. The plot moved a bit wonky at times, but overall great film. 7.5/10!

Her presence was just amazing and her scenes I did not see coming from a mile away. The plot moved a bit wonky at times, but overall great film. 7.5/10! I found Doubt to be a mixed bag, and Streep's performance to not be very effective. I know that's probably sacrilege, since it is Meryl Streep, but I found her completely underwhelming in this film. I can't even say that it starts with Doubt though, Streep has been throwing in all sorts of unnecessary ticks and actions that grate my nerves and take away from her performances in recent years, IMO. Hoffman was another one who I found merely average in Doubt. This film suffers from lousy execution, which is a shame, since the original play was created by John Patrick Shanley and he directed this film. I didn't find that Shanley had a clear idea of what he really wanted out of this film, because of that, I don't think some of the principal actors knew how to project their performances more efficiently. There's also some problems I had with the screenplay. I give it a 4.5/10. I totally agree, Viola David, in her brief screen-time, steals this film. She deserves every accolade she gets.

That's an interesting analysis, and I have seen others comment on the exact same things. Earlier in the year many thought Streep was for sure going to win her third Oscar, but since it was not as commanding of a performence in many people's eyes she will just get a nomination. I have not seen Revolutionary Road or Rachel Getting Married yet, but from all I have hard either Hathaway or Winslet should win.... I am such a fan boy of Streep though and have rarely saw a film of her's that I did not enjoy her performence in....
