Members Khan
Trump would have to give up a whole lot of hamberders and fries before he could fit through one of 'em. Edited January 25, 2019 by Khan
Members Juliajms
I see her point, since nothing has really been resolved and we will likely be back where we started in three weeks. I do think he caved though.
Members Khan
IA. I'm not popping any champagne corks just yet. A lot could happen in three weeks. But I'm glad federal workers no longer have to be furloughed or work without pay (for now).
Members ReddFoxx
The prospect of air traffic being halted at LaGuardia was likely a factor in his decision to end the shutdown. Travel being disrupted was always going to be a breaking point.
Members JaneAusten
Meh Trump has never operated that way in his business life. I don't buy that there was some grand strategy around this. He's been trying to turn the public sentiment in his favor for weeks and it's gotten worse. First that Oval Office address, then the desperation to have a SOTU address. Since when has he been that tactical? No one should feel this is settled I agree, but sorry I don't buy Trump is playing 5 dimensional chess. And while I respect Sarah Kendzior, the US has been semi authoritarian since GWB and the stretch of executive power. This is a man who was using the wall as a way to remember to talk about immigration. I'd believe he settled this more due to trying to drive the news away from Roger Stone's arrest than some super strategic move. Heck Jared was on Capital Hill and based on stories believed he could work democrats on this issue. They had been leaking snippets for days on how there were democrats willing to work with them. And did that ever happen? I remember something from the Watergate days that Bob Woodward was alleged to have said. He told Bernstein to not overthink the strategy that was going on in the White House because the people involved were just not as smart as they thought they were. That included Nixon by the way. Members Juliajms
I don't think the person who wrote that thinks he has a grand strategy. He's just a natural when it comes to causing harm. I doubt it's a plan, but I do suspect we will be right back where we are in three weeks just because chaos and harm is what he does.
Members JaneAusten
Oh I totally agree with that sentiment.
Members JaneAusten
Apparently the short term CR has a few nuggets included Yes Paul Ryan allowed this to expire with no vote last year.

Members Khan
I still tend to think it's not Trump himself that Putin has dirt on, but possibly Ivanka (and/or Jared), or even one of his sons by Ivana. (Tiffany, OTOH, can go for what she knows, lol.) Edited January 26, 2019 by Khan
Members JaneAusten
I still believe the dirt that the Russians have is financial. Remember he could not get a loan from a US bank in 2011 so he went overseas. And money laundering.
