Hungary's new prime minister, Péter Magyar, has been sworn in. "I will not rule over Hungary - I will serve my country," Magyar said after he took the oath of office in parliament.

Greeting the people outside, he said: “Today, every freedom-loving person in the world wants to be a little Hungarian,” he said. “You have taught the country and the world that it is the most ordinary, flesh-and-blood people that can defeat the most vicious tyranny,” Magyar added to roaring applause.

^ JD Vance went to Hungary to try to stop Magyar from being elected. FAIL.

The people of Hungary elected Magyar via a landslide.

Magyar is center-right but so much better than the prior authoritarian.

My mother thinks the GOP is grooming Vance to be their party's next face and voice, if/when the moment comes. "If they think J.D. Vance can hold onto Trump's base," I said, "then they are in for a BIG surprise."

When Hungary's new prime minister, Péter Magyar, was sworn in, they played the Hungarian national anthem in Parliament. And also the European Anthem (Beethoven's Ode to Joy).
In addition to the EU anthem, Magyar requested that anthems of ethnic minorities be played.

They played the anthem of the Székely people in Hungary, who primarily live in Romania.

What's even more amazing is the honoring of the Roman community

In Parliament today, they played the unofficial anthem of Hungary's Roma community. The playing of this last anthem in particular is an unprecedented gesture of respect toward the community of roughly 700,000 Roma in Hungary.

Sixteen years of an authoritarian regime overthrown by a landslide peaceful election. Rejoining the world community. Anthems of ethnic minorities played!

I'm glad they play "Lift Every Voice and Sing" at football games in the USA. Waiting to hear it played in Congress.

Meanwhile in fascist U.S.A.

Anger, confusion as Louisiana Republicans move to erase the majority-Black US House district.

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, May 9 (Reuters) - As a child, Leona Tate was one of the "New Orleans Four," the first Black students to desegregate a public school in the deep South, enduring racial slurs and death threats as armed U.S. Marshals escorted them to class.

On Friday, more than six decades later, Tate told Republican state lawmakers that their proposal to dismantle at least one majority-Black congressional district brought back harrowing memories.

"I need you to understand ‌what it feels like to stand here, to have walked through that mob as a child, and to now watch elected officials do the same thing that mob was trying to do – just with better suits and a parliamentary procedure," she told a senate committee hearing at the state capitol in Baton Rouge.

The president of the Louisiana chapter of the NAACP was forcibly blocked from entering the hearing room in the state capitol building.
