Members Khan
I think Mary Trump summed it up best on X: "Checkmate." In a way, I'm not surprised that VP Harris' team has chosen Gov. Walz. The minute I saw pictures of him hugging kids and animals, I knew there had to be no other choice. I mean, a grown-ass man huggin' a pig. It don't GET more heartland than that, lol. At the very least, progressives on the far left now have to work hard to find another reason NOT to vote for Harris. I'm sure they'll find that reason, too, but it's gonna take some work!
Members Vee
He's also basically the inadvertent architect of the entire current messaging strategy as of (only!) two weeks ago. And he sells it well on TV. IIRC I believe CNN's coverage this morning indicated the Harris team found any choice had negligible impact on polling, so they opted for the one who she had the most personal chemistry with. Biden and Pelosi both loving him probably didn't hurt. (Nancy remains the power behind the entire party atm - it's pretty remarkable.) Members Khan
That makes sense. Minnesotans, I find, are hearty people, with a mind-your-own-business mentality. Even the ones who tend to lean Republican probably look at Donald Trump and JD Vance, shake their heads and sigh, "Ah, jeez."

Members MichaelGL
Good safe choice. This should secure the Midwest/Rust belt. I don't entirely believe we were going to lose PA. Could it be close? Yes. But no I don't see Dems losing PA.

I am struggling to comprehend that this dude is so much a Midwest dad that he might have named a cat for Afton from Dallas.
Members Khan
I just love how so many are so amazed at VP Harris' political acumen in choosing Walz for her running mate, as if being Black and a woman precludes her from understanding how politics works. Clearly, we didn't learn a damn thing from Barack Obama. #BlackFolksKnowThings I'm sure the media will do their damnedest to find some dirt on Gov. Walz - and if/when they do, I'm sure it'll involve "inappropriate behavior," too. When that happens, though, I'll just politely remind them of the following figures: Marla Maples. E. Jean Carroll. Stormy Daniels. Wake me when he has a dog named Digger. Members Vee
I do find this strange as well, and hadn't realized the pattern. They appear to have Vance following Harris from state to state, obviously exciting the country wherever he goes, while Trump seems to stick to an event a week. Is he even more lazy than usual or are they (as was alleged by the GOP about Biden) trying to contain him from the public for other reasons? Members Khan
I'm sure Team Trump would argue that it's because of the (highly suspicious) attempt on his life, but I think it's obvious to most everyone why they're REALLY restricting his public appearances.

It can't just be about the usual catastrophe he brings on himself, he's always done that.
Members DramatistDreamer
Yes Lord! It was even worse in 2019 when people were using all kinds of words to undermine her ability. Harris, no doubt gained so much insight from being VP to one of the most successful leaders in American politics but she has always had the ability and political acumen. I saw that in 2019, despite all the put downs. Also, I hope people take a second look at Stacey Abram’s another leader with high political acumen, who definitely knows how politics and public service works.
