It was well-known that the January 6th insurrection was planned.
 

Here's an article in the Washingtonian dated January 5th, where they had learned of the plot but the author refers to the plot as merely "MAGA fans’ thought experiments".   The headline of the article mockingly says "MAGA geniuses".  Obviously the author of the article didn't take any of it seriously.

But the Washingtonian asked the US Capitol Police about it anyways, and the Capitol police declined to comment.

 

Again let me emphasize this article was dated January 5th, and obviously the Washingtonian had researched it prior to that.

The hypocrisy is mindboggling. They could have stopped this themselves years ago, but they were fine with Trumps behaviour then because they benefitted from it. 

Trump incited a violent riot, an attack on the democratic process and now he must face the consequences of his actions. If these GOPers didn't have the spine to do something about him before things got out of hand to the extent they have now they have forfeited every right to act all shocked and talk about unification and avoiding actions which could be inflammatory.

Same old games. The Democrats are asked to unite the country. Republicans can tear it apart in the name of "freedom." And many will lap it up, both in the press and the public. But Pelosi has little choice here...they have to make some kind of statement.
