I truly do not understand the logic of Democratic candidates appearing on FNTH's.  What do they hope to gain there?  Are they STILL operating under the assumption that they can sway those people, or that the network's key demographic is comprised of citizens who have legitimate concerns about the direction of this country and need to be heard?  (Many DO have legitimate concerns, but the more reasonably minded ones -- meaning, of course, the ones who aren't blaming it all on Hillary or black or brown folks -- aren't necessarily tuning into FNC, lol).

At this point I blame The West Wing. A whole generation of liberals have grown up thinking that Republicans are just one grand sweeping speech away from being turned from the dark side. The most frustrating thing for me about the current state of progressivism is the fixation on symbolic victories even at the expense of real world progress. These people are helping Fox's bottom line at the expense of the people whose votes they need. I was very grateful to see Sam Bee call it what it is: stupid. It's a stupid thing to do. Nobody who has done a town hall is polling any better.

Yep.  Exactly.  Liberals are King Arthur, and Republicans are Mordred.  And we all know what happened to King Arthur and Mordred, don't we?

I watched a clip of Elizabeth Warren on The View yesterday and she could not have made it more clear as to why she wasn't going on. And this idea that "you won't go on because you hate us" applied to anyone is nonsense. Warren has done more townhalls ALL OVER THE COUNTRY(she just did one in West Virginia) than any other candidate.

Maybe it is due to polling for those trying to jumpstart their campaigns again. Warren rejuvenated hers by branding herself as the "I have a plan for that" candidate. Castro is disappointing. He could be the immigration candidate. He's the only one right now that has a comprehensive immigration plan that by the way, is fair and reasonable.

Amidst all of the horrific news on the national stage, here in Illinois things are moving forward with a democratic governor and a supermajority in our legislature with our own record number of women elected in the house and senate here.

I was not a supporter of Pritzker, but he has kept his campaign promises to date and we are on the long path to fiscal solvency. The general assembly passed the following items with the spring session ending this weekend.

- A fair tax referendum which will put a question on the ballot in 2020 to change our constitution to remove our state flat income tax for a progressive income tax(tiered like 30 plus other states)

- Recreational marijuana legalization

- The Reproductive Heath Act which is the most progressive abortion rights bill in the nation(this was pushed aside until all of the draconian bills started getting passed across the country. That action caused lawmakers to bring it forward again)

- A BUDGET. Illinois went 2 years without a budget with our last governor further damaging the credit rating for the state with his unwillingness to compromise. It's good to see movement on this.

- The Medicaid omnibus bill which will streamline the process for Medicaid coverage, to ensure no lapses in coverage, and to make sure Medicaid patients are granted equal access to services

- The Keeping families together act which prevents local law enforcement from becoming deputized agents of ICE.

- The minimum wage increase was already passed and signed earlier in the year.

The General Assembly has voted to remain in session until June 2nd to finalize the budget and to address additional legislation on gun reform, including fixing the firearm owner id process to ensure that those whose gun licenses are revoked, have local law enforcement ensure they turn over weapons they own(this is the law but to date no proactive action is taken and gun owners are relied upon to turn in their weapons upon revocation). The shooter in Aurora Illinois that shot and killed several people some months back still had guns after having his license in Illinois revoked. Also sports gambling, the approval of 6 more casinos,  and a gas tax increase to address bridge and further road repairs across the state, are on the table

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
    • I'm glad a lot of people are continuing to enjoy this show.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.
