Apropos of nothing, but I will have medical insurance again in 2018 -- and with a $0 monthly premium.  And all I had to do was promise to file an income tax return for the 2018 year.

You have to wonder about the polling. I kept hearing the MSM and how dismal they were about VA yet there was so much activity in the state in terms of volunteers for weeks. The margin Northam won by was greater than any candidate in the past 30 years. And I think Northam while a decent man and candidate ran a rather lackluster campaign.

I went through the training a few weeks back to become a CAC(an assister) who helps people enroll and even in Illinois, I had no clue that you could actually enroll in a marketplace plan and be eligible enough for Premium tax credits to pay nothing. Lots of things people don't realize. Good for you for getting it.

It shows the importance of running people in as many seats as possible. And of the party supporting and encouraging diversity, as the winners were a very diverse group - a lot of women, Asian-American, Latina, black, lgbt, etc.

One of the winners was the boyfriend of the reporter who along with a cameraman was shot to death on-air.

So the state of Maine had an referenda on the ballot to expand Medicaid

This COULD be a model for states that have chosen not to expand it. Why?

Apparently the MOST consistent issue voters shared across all the races tonight - Healthcare was number 1

That doesn't surprise me, or that guns was number two.  At the end of the day, all the dog whistles over "issues" like whether one should stand up for or salute the flag are just that: dog whistles.

On the one hand, it makes sense.  Democrats know Black women will not vote Republican (especially now, after Charlottesville).  However, what they might fail to realize is that Black women could still vote third-party or just plain stay home.

I still save money by buying my regular prescription drugs at Sam's Club.  However, for the past year, I've stressed a tad more than usual about developing a disease that would require medical tests or lengthy hospital stays.

It’s cute how the Republicans are acting like they didn’t devote millions of dollars and thousands of hours of manpower into this race. Now the narrative from the GOP hacks is that Virginia is a Solid blue state and there’s nothing Democrats should be celebrating.

Meanwhile they nearly took over the House of Delegates after having a 32 seat deficit from the Republicans and Trump was sending out frantic, incoherent robo calls yesterday.

I strongly believe that Kamala Harris will be on the 2020 ticket. Either as Joe Biden’s VP or as the Presidential nominee. She has a path to the nomination. I’m honestly considering voting for her if she runs in the primary.

Or I saw one on CNN this morning acting like they lost because their agenda isn't getting through!

No man, it's because people have seen your agenda in action and are repelled by it.

I would also vote for Kamala. And before you start Marceline, I don't give a fig about the people of California. Just kidding, I do, but I care about the Republic a lot more. We are in desperate times and California may just have to make the sacrifice.

    • First, let me say I love reading all of your takes and thoughts. They always provide a different point of view... a breath of fresh air... in this sometimes stuffy topic.

You've inspired me to add my 2 cents about this product placement debacle.  I absolutely HATE the way they are doing product placement in BTG. I really hope this doesn't catch on or evolve into more and more of these moments. It's incredibly off-putting to place them in a highly dramatic moment where we are still on the emotional journey with the character. What is next - Dani spraying the house while having a nervous breakdown? It makes me not want to buy the product they're selling. LOL. That's just me.
    • I always get the vibe that Martin/Smitty have an emotional abusive relationship set up... but I doubt the show will really go there with that element given that Martin is a Dupree (and we can't have the Duprees be portrayed in a negative light), and because it's a gay male relationship.   Even though abuse in the physical or emotional sense is a huge thing in a lot of gay and lesbian relationships. The Ashley/Naomi scene reads off to me for one reason....  Ashley was talking about the new scandal without any sort of mention and/or subtext.. considering she knew both Silk Press Sheila and Eva.  I'm not sure if the writers have forgotten, if Jen Jacobs isn't able to play subtext, or what.   It's just apparent the writers do not know how to write a young white millennial couple.. and perhaps they need to get a younger white script writer to be on staff... or let the actors play around with the lines to make them more natural/realistic.
    • This is as good a time as any to point out that the 90 minute show was, what I like to call  "cockamamie idea" of Fred Silverman, head of NBC Daytime Programming. He did so well at ABC & CBS but not so NBC. We learned this from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay, 2006, can be found on YouTube, audio only. Now, to be clear, Rauch was completely behind it. Only Lemay fought against it & eventually quit over it.
    • She was so wonderful. Glad your handle has been a tribute to her.
    • Hopefully Alan has learned to not interrupt or interject with pointless information while someone is in the middle of telling a story. I almost think it would be better if Alan was a producer behind the scenes.. and he just had the actors on screen talking and asking one another questions.  Those interviews tend to work better.
    • It was only recently announced that Denise Alexander passed away on March 5, 2025. She was my all time favorite actress and role model. She will be dearly missed.  Denise Alexander, ‘General Hospital' and ‘Days of Our Lives' Actress, Dies at 85
    • Hopefully Alan will actually read the book beforehand.

    • Am I the only one who immediately thinks of this every time someone mentions Smitty?
