Don't get me wrong: I want to see all monuments dedicated to the Confederacy destroyed.  I just don't understand the argument that preserving them instead would be like preserving history itself.  First of all, history is more than slabs of concrete.  Second, it isn't as if deconstructing the cursed things will somehow erase the legacy of slavery or Jim Crow segregation in this country, never to be thought of or mentioned again.  Because, believe me, just as soon as we even THINK about forgetting about the history of race relations in America, someone is bound to show up with receipts.

If people are concerned about "preserving history" then put these things in a museum. They don't belong in public space. They never did. This isn't about history anymore. It's about the present. We have Nazis marching in our streets. We have white nationalists in our government. These statues are rallying points for terrorists. People who want to glorify the confederacy can do it on their own turf, their own time and their own dime.

Meanwhile, I have to admit that I kind of enjoy watching this white supremacist chased through the streets.

I am glad that the citizens of Charlottesville chased away Jason Kessler. He is an evil racist coward, who can't take getting his comeuppance for the damage he has helped caused. Jason, Richard Spencer and others from this racist group need to be held accountable for the destruction they have caused. I hope they get chased all the way out of town.Their views and actions are disgusting and so is them infiltrating Charlottesville. Unite the Right thought they could try and take over in that smaller community but I am glad they are learning otherwise.

^^ I can't imagine how Ms. Bro feels but what wonderful uplifting thoughts of her daughter and said with such grace and poise after her loss.  Heather sounds like an incredibly special person. I hope when that monument comes down they do something to honor her and the others who were there standing against oppression and bigotry.

    • One of the dumbest situations (Lando) ever. What audience member is going to invest in a storyline with a recast they don't like and a triangle where one character is short-term? It bombed as it should have done. So much of JFP's tenure just reeks of desperation. I don't get how someone could produce SB (which did have flaws but was often brilliant) but make so many terrible mistakes at GL.   I still think JFP would have worked better as a director and music supervisor. Her music work at SB was top notch.

    • We see the same with GH, where Mark Teschner, the casting director, reportedly has less say since Frank Valentini took over. Some producers want to take over every aspect of their shows.  I think Lando may have been a CBS push.
    • No idea but she won Emmys & she was the Casting Director at the same time for both ATWT & GL. She hired Lisa Brown with no job for her. Then Marland made Brown his muse so he created both Iva & Nola for her. But, I think we know that Jill does what Jill wants.
    • I did notice a decline in the quality of the performers being cast once Betty R vacated/retired from her position. We would have been spared from the nightmares of some of the castings that dominated the show in the last decade or so of the soap. JFP was an example of someone, no matter the gender, who had no business being in the position they were in.
    • If Betty Rea was the casting director, why was so much of GL during JFP's reign cast by her? Walker, Deas, Crampton, Lando, etc. JFP takes credit for Dusay as well. What is the point of having a casting director, if you don't let her do her job? What happened when Rea left?
    • So much on here slips my mind but this is the first I remember hearing of Peterson's passing. Very sad. Nell was a thankless role, clearly set up for a cheating storyline with Frank, but Peterson did her best.  Betty Rea Rea was the casting director for the soap opera “Guiding Light” from 1970 to 1996 and simultaneously the casting director for “As the World Turns” from 1979 to 1983.
    • Sorry, just one more post on the Thorntons. How did Ruth and Edna feel about each other prior to Tad dating Dotty?
    • I can't remember exactly but I think it may be 1995 as Jake was trying to hide from a loan shark.
