I live in the NYC area and I actually prefer Anthony Weiner to Christine Quinn. Quinn to me is a hack. Anthony Weiner was always one of the more politically shrewd Democrats and did at least give lip service to the problems of the middle class.

This made me sad watching it.

Bob Dole came to fame as Gerald Ford's running mate in 1976 and he was a hyper partisan, nasty attack dog.  As the years went on he mellowed and became known as a lovable grouch quick with a wisecrack.   He dutifully ran against Bill Clinton 1996 when he had no shot but someone from his party had to, and he was an old pro who had been around washington working with the big names of his era.

This is the first time I have seen him in years and it just makes me sad to see what has become of him.  His mind is still sharp and he knows what he is saying (and what he is saying is right), but his body is failing him.

Michele Bachmann is leaving Congress.

I remember reading about her when she was still a Minnesota state senator, and the viciously ugly climate she and failed Presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty helped whip up against gays in 2002, 2003, 2004. She has since managed to build a career on her gender and on saying stupid things in just the right way to get press attention.

I'm just sorry that she and her husband will now be able to take his hate show on the road.

On one hand, as a Democrat (one who knew who she was WAY before she even ran for President--I would watch Hardball and see Chris Matthews talk about her, along with Keith Olbermann on Countdown--I'm THAT kind of political junkie biggrin.png ), I'm excited that she will finally be out of Congress, even though her seat is a suburban Republican one that could still get someone even more crazy than her in her place.

OTOH, I will miss her unique brand of crazy. She never disapoints, that's for sure.

Speaking of hate - more ugly racism and bigotry, this time against a boy who sang the National Anthem. So much online stuff brings out the bile.
