Melrose Place Spinoff: Discussion Thread

Jonah could also be an interesting character, but this relationship with Reily is poisonous. I agree that Caleb should move in the building, he is the only man with balls on this show. David and Lauren share no chemistry at all and it is obvious that a change of writers is needed soon.

I agree. Caleb should stay. I liked Riley at first, but is becoming less interesting. Lauren, I'm not sure. I liked her at first but maybe it's the actress. It's like she's overthinking her delivery. Not overacting, just overthinking.

Riley being a school teacher and a goody goody is all wrong for Melrose Place. Her backstory is a bit more interesting - growing up in a privilege home and her father will to pay for Harvard Law School. They should've made Riley a young lawyer fresh out of law school.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the episodes post-Auggie/Violet, since there's suppose to be a "new shift" in the show. We'll see.

This show is simply awful which is a sad thing. The tone has always been wrong and the new characters are terrible. I'm not interested in Amanda's return either because she's stuck with all these worthless newbies. Honestly, everyone except Lauren, Ella and David (only due to his connection to Michael) should be dumped. Then make Michael, Amanda, Jo and Jane regulars and bring new characters to interact with this new group of characters. It needs a lighter, campier touch, especially when handling dark issues. We need different types of characters.

I don't know if you guys remember her, but there was an amazing character on the original series. I *think* her name was Sydney and she was Jane's sister. She was the cutest, most lovable bumbling scheme I've ever seen on soaps. I loved her various looks and all the cutesy things she'd get involved with. This character Laura Leighton is doing a terrible job playing is not the character she made famous. I wish when reviewing the show people would note how off her characterization is instead of making it seem like viewers don't care about Sydney. This ISN'T Sydney.

I will watch it to the end and I guess it's a nice treat since the final season was kinda dull, but I'm so disappointed. I'm glad I got to see Jo again. She left far too soon on the original series. Other than that? Kick rocks and I won't miss ya next season!

AMEN!

When they revive a premise, I don't expect *everything* to be the exact same way it was in the original, but if the general atmosphere and feel of the original is missing, then someone has failed. There's no lightness, no fun, no bubbles...nothing. Neverending background music and two second scenes does not a Melrose make. They sucked out all of the things that made the original unique and successful, and what's left is not much to watch for. They're piggybacking off the original's reputation in order to push this bland [!@#$%^&*] on us. I have more fun watching That Girl episodes on YouTube than watching this crap.

Vampire Diaries ftw.

It's funny people keep saying Caleb is the toughest guy on the show ,given the writing for Matt the first time around.

I wonder if Caleb being the token gay on the show is one of the reasons he may be going, if he is.

What does Caleb have to do with Matt, besides the obvious. I also happen to think that Caleb has spine; he's a sexy guy and a potentially sexy character who I think could add some much needed spice to this ailing show. I hope he stays and if the writers are smart they'll keep him, move him into the building and let him interact with the others.

Matt was a pus sy.

Matt was a pus sy.

LOL! OK, don't know if I would've put it quite like that, HOWEVER, I think it's pretty accurate. LOL! Caleb is definitely NOT a pus sy.

Caleb, Lauren, Ella, and David really have been the only redeeming things about this show.

I would love for them to focus on those four only.

I agree.

But DAVID is interesting, just cut back on the emo scenes

Yeah, it's really just the "omg look at how deep and layered David issssss....." scenes that suck. Sipos should be kissing Thomas Calabro's feet, though. I hope he knows that if not for Michael, nobody would care about David.

That one-dimensional bitch we saw in episode 10 wasn't the same Amanda from the original series. The "old" Amanda may have been quite a bitch, but when she was nasty towards other people she usually had a good reason. Besides, the old Amanda still had a heart and she cared about the people she loved (e.g. Billy and Jake). So far, all 5 returning characters have had barely anything in common with their personas from the original.

They should definitely make Victor Webster a series regular. Maybe Brooke Burns, too. Even though we have seen very little of her so far, I like her character. She could be a great nemesis to Amanda.

David/Lauren don't have any chemistry at all. By the way, I wonder how long they will drag Lauren's prostitution storyline? -_-

One important thing about the original was the apartment complex. Basically, it was the heart and soul of the show. Right in the beginning, we got to know the residents and where they lived. What do we know about the complex now? The only apartment we get to see quite often is Jonah and Riley's. We still don't know how many apartments there are and who lives where.

Oh, before I forget: The story with the German film maker in episode 9 was so full of clichés. Of course he was from Bavaria (FYI: Bavaria is NOT Germany, it's just one of its 16 federal states) and his name was Franz (that name was popular 70 years ago). And the actor's accent sucked big time.

Amanda's return was lame. At least they didnt have any of the newbies crap on her like the other alumni. I couldnt get over how horrible her hair was. Why didnt anyone think to comb it before letting her on set?

I thought she did look hella different. I couldn't put my finger on it. Looks like jello is inside her skin wobbling around

Toups, I pretty much agree with everything you've said. This episode was amazing. I dont understand why The CW is going to do a Vampire Diaries marathon over a week when it already HAS viewers. They should be doing it for Melrose Place, promoting the hell out of it and doing a marathon to get new viewers.

My only peeve was the bad surgery that has destroyed Locklear's face. Seriously, it was very distracting. And I hope we've not seen the last of Victor Webster, they could have done a lot with that character.
