I think it would’ve just been a mystery story but their chemistry was so strong that I wouldn’t be surprised if they went there with it.

I think Ann Marcus was planning to have Val unearth some big secret about Greg in the course of writing his biography.  (My money was on a long-lost son.)

It would certainly tie in with that scene of Greg visiting Laura's gravesite in the season 13 finale.  But I think any plans to bring back Laura would have been doomed to fail.  Constance McCashin was irreplaceable, IMO, and given her feelings about being let go from the show, I doubt the producers could have convinced her to return, too.  In a perfect world, though, they could have lured her back - either as Laura, or as her twin or lookalike.

I agree. CM was given the shaft and would probably never return. They would have had to do some serious courting/butt kissing to make her even consider it.

Speaking of those last seasons, why was Stacy Galina (Kate) considered such a find ?  Even when they did the 1997 reunion she was brought back with Gary's child in tow and given major airtime.

It boggles my mind to this day, @SoapDope, lol.  I truly don't know what the show saw in Galina that they brought her back as a new character after killing her off as Mary Frances.

One of my biggest issues with the Lechowicks is how often their casting choices felt lacking.  This is true not just on KNOTS LANDING, but on all the primetime shows they worked on: "Homefront," "Second Chances," "Hotel Malibu," "That's Life," "Wild Card," etc.  For every Michelle Phillips or Nicollette Sheridan, there were too many Penny Peysers and Melinda Culeas.

One of several sweet young things that the CBS primetime soaps got on the cheap in the off the rails plus budget mode era. See also Cathy Podewell, Kimberly Foster, Lar Park Lincoln, Andrea Thompson.

Andrea Thompson has had a real weird career. I will credit her for leaving CNN at the height of the Iraq War and speaking out at a very dangerous time to be doing that, whether her exit was really about that conflict or her becoming a minor scandal for the network because of her racy resume.

Kimberly Foster and Cathy Podewell were appropriate choices for the kind of show that DALLAS had become by the late '80's and early '90's.  Andrea Thompson (and Gisele) might have been the worst thing to happen to FC - yes, worse than even Kristian Alfonso, lol.

Her brief scenes with Greg as Mary Catherine packed a real punch, and someone seemingly realized it had been a mistake to kill that character off. The idea of having her under the thumb of a control freak mother, and reminding Greg of his failures as a father, was not bad. When they moved away from that and just started writing her as a generic heroine in season 13, there was nothing of value to be found.

    • Thursday & Friday's episodes were excellent. The build-up was most definitely worth the wait (2 months). TMG, I can't give her enough accolades. AM, was also absolutely incredible. I think the fallout is going to have a ripple effect. The little clues that have been dropped,  hopefully, will weave seamlessly to reveal even bigger bombshells for the Dupree's and Martin.
    • Thanks, msn drives me nuts on the one hand but on the other hand their headlines appeal to me. And, I just don't do FoxNews.  She is trolling this thread.
    • The link doesn't work.  The actual link is this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/composer-leonard-bernstein-s-children-request-his-music-be-played-in-the-kennedy-center-in-rebuke-to-trump/ar-AA1E7gw5 That's a reprint of a FoxNews article. MSN reprints stuff from many sources. You can tell the source from the logo above the headline on the msn page. The FoxNews article is describing what Leonard Bernstein's children wrote -- as a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times. Instead of reading it filtered through FoxNews, here is the original: "Our Dad, Leonard Bernstein, Would Want His Music Played at the Kennedy Center" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/opinion/kennedy-center-leonard-bernstein-protest.html Non-paywall archived copy of the same NYTimes letter, without commentary: https://archive.is/QaLqD
    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
    • What was Ruth Martin's association to the Thornton family?  I only remember the daughter that dated Tad, and she had a buxom mother.  But, did Ruth date David Thorton before Joe?

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
    • Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.
    • I said this on Twitter on Friday when Leslie mentioned Chicago, so perhaps she might be related to one of Anita's bandmates. In addition, Leslie did say she grew up listening to The Articulettes too.
    • There was a scene in the past week or two with Leslie looking at some papers and mementos, which included an invitation or souvenir from Alan's memorial service or funeral -- it was dated as November 2024. Me just guessing but it seems to me that Martin's nightmares about the accident are from something longer ago than November.
    • ah thanks! do you know who the third one was in the blonde? the fifth one i know ive seen before in the brown wig but i forgot, and then ive never seen the psychic one before lol
