How about Renee Elise Goldsberry as the new Drucilla on Y&R?

I have to say part of me misses my REG so much. OMG that woman had the whole total freaking package IMO and she was by far the most frontburner African American actress in daytime. She is gorgeous, smart, talented and OMG the woman had chemistry with anyone. I think she could be the new Drucilla on Y&R or she could be a new african american character. It is freaking crying shame REG is not in daytime right now. She must return, she is way too talented to be off of it.

NO.....I want her back as Evangeline and no-one else (but with RC at the helm, I don't ever see her return happening *sigh*...shes not connected to OLTL's past so shes expendable  ).

But on top-of-that....The role of Drucilla requires a certain type of "street " & "sass" and although REG is a great actress, I just don't think she could pull it off convincingly.

^ Exactly, although I loved VR she ALWAYS made Dru OVER-THE-TOP (and the role in a sense called for that)...REG has a more natural, reserved style of acting. That would be horrendous to make her Dru, just as it would have been to have VR as Evangeline (as the rumor awhile ago suggested, that would have BEEN A WHOLE different kind of Evangeline.).

REG was someone who got me, a sporadic viewer, to tune into OLTL. I personally loved her chemistry with Michael Easton, mostly because she was so good at playing the longing.

But I agree with others here...apart from age differences, REG is not fierce...and I have difficulty picturing her as such.

I suspect there are many fierce actresses out there...in that age range....done correctly, I think this could work.

What they should do is take someone who never met Dru (like Cane, right?), and send him somewhere for an extended assignment.

There, he could meet and befriend a FIERCE woman of color who is down on her luck...maybe even amnesiac.

This woman could be the recast Dru. EXCEPT they wouldn't tell us that. Like Cane, we'd meet her as a stranger...and grow to love her in her own right.

Then, once we love her, Cane could convince her to come to Genoa City. (Maybe, for example, she demonstrates incredible skill with cosmetics and fashion and hair on a low budget, and Cane feels she could revive the sagging Tuvia or Saffra or whatever line). The amnesiac, because she has no real life, and because she likes and respects Cane (non-romantically) agrees.

Cane decides to "present" her to Jabot and the people in his life...look at my incredible new find! And when they all see her, there is an audible intake of gasps. Because it is DRU! And Cane never knew it.

If Cane did know Dru (I can't remember), it could be someone else (Chloe)..... But you get my drift.

If they take their time getting us to know and like this recast as not-Dru....she could become Dru with high acceptance. And, if the character is working, but they are afraid she won't be accepted as Dru, she could be introduced as a new "fierce" woman of color.

Let's face it...if we don't get VR back...maybe it IS best to let the character be dead...and fill the void with a new character and actress. That would give us more to discover as an audience.

As a fan of both actresses, I have to say no. The age difference is the most obvious reason but there's the intangibles that others have mentioned.

And as an aside, I think that neither Dru nor Evangeline should be recast. Both actresses put a special stamp on those characters. Druscilla especially is a soap icon. Some people are fond of saying that any role can be recast and that's true but, IMO, not every role should.

REG was the best thing that happen to OLTL & the low ratings proves it. They got rid of REG/Evangeline & they got rid a of me as new viewer.

REG isn't Dru she's too young. But I don't mind her coming in as another black character. If they won't & can't bring VR back I rather Dru stay gone. Until people are willing ot kiss some ass.

Um, hell no, she's way too young and so un-fierce. Renee is better suited to play heroine type roles.

I'm not saying Dru can't be recast, but they have to find the right actress and have to have the right writing in place. Rowell said it best when she said that no one was irreplaceable. They also have to wait a good amount of time if they're going to recast.

    • I think she did, yes. The only part of that return I remember appreciating was the ripoff they did of Earrings of Madame De, where a secretly broke India sold a trinket and Ross or Alan (I think it was Ross) then bought it for her, not knowing it was hers.
    • 6-4   Getting around to the rewatching and I guess Dani/Bill/Hayley as A story is coming around better to me. I hope that means that I will feel different about Friday's episode which first time around I felt was more of a Wednesday/Thursday episode. Anita's story and Dani/Bill/Hayley (with Kat vs SilkPress being a solid B plot to keep the SilkPress storyline alive, but NOT A story) have been the focus for this past week. So I'm worried I'll feel a way when I get back to Friday's episode. I guess I'm about to find out.   I know I have issues with Dani/Bill/Hayley coming back into focus since the much better paced SilkPress storyline is truly where it's at with so much aftermath/new direction to explore. However, I'm finding that...just like with the story of Martin's secret being slowly woven back into the story narrative...I care a little bit more for it since it's been background since Week 3, Month 1. IMHO the characters...outside of Hayley...have been developed in other plots. The past week and a half has had Dani and Andre growing closer and they have gotten to the 'third month what are we?' talk that I expect in all relationships in real life. And I liked how the writers have slowly had friction between them to see what they are made of? Is it still just a booty call or can it be more? Meanwhile, Bill has been hiding his physical issues for months. Too busy messing with other people's marriages.

So now that they have some more POV to them, it was good to see an organic...and yes, it was organic...reason for them to be in the same room. In this case...the hospital room. Lord, Karla and Timon have such great chemistry. And Dani and Bill were so acting like exes. No wonder Hayley feels threatened. Oh, well. lol. Bonus...the drama with Bill has Hayley and Naomi back in each other's orbit. They don't have enough scenes together.    You all know I was waiting for Anita's story. So how am I feeling? Pretty good. TT has been playing it to the hilt. And I was not expecting the story of a fourth member who killed themselves after being pushed out. And it's had a build. First through Tracy. And now with Sharon...who is swiftly being established as a piece of work. A Have-Not (if not Has-Been) who is not above scheming. Okay. lol. I liked the conversation between Anita and Vernon where she told him the truth, and he tried to hold her up. Whether she deserved it or not, it was good to see. I'm sure all of the secrets are not out yet so I look forward to more. Cuz we know they are not cancelling the reunion. Which fingers crossed...will be at the police fundraiser.     Honestly, I continued to be impressed with how the writers have kept Silk Press Sheila out of jail, but still playing the beats of it all. She's definitely in covering her tracks mode, and it's great to watch. It's also great to see her mixing it up with different characters. I was happy to get the long-awaited showdown between her and Nosy Nurse and Nosy Nurse READ...HER...DOWN. I was just disappointed Nosy Nurse spilled some tea. And that led to SilkPress's scene with Andre. And then Andre...lord...talked too much.   C plot this episode has been Chelesa's love life. I was wondering where it was going to go after her talk with Vernon. Enter...Mystery Woman. I wonder what her secret would be that would get in her way with Chels. Related to an enemy of the Duprees? Married? I am intrigued. And I do like Chelesa getting the spotlight because daytime does not really do it like how they are doing it with her.    Can Kat and Jacob get a spinoff? lol.
    • 1986 began with the EP change from Gail Kobe to Joe Willmore and the HW change from Pamela Long to Jeff Ryder. Over the course of 1986 there was turnover in the HW ranks: Jeff Ryder, Jeff Ryder and Mary Ryan Munisteri as co-HWs, Mary Ryan Munisteri and Ellen Barrett as co-HWs, Joseph Manetta, Joseph Manetta and Sheri Anderson as co-HWs. The 1986 ratings reflected the quality of the show. GL was saved from cancel territory in 1986 because Capitol was still CBS's lowest-rated daytime drama.
    • As Michael should be...DARK.   I'm just getting through my first few scenes of Rory as Michael. And I'm already picking up chemistry with LW, EMcCoy, and SMattson from the jump. I liked Rory as Noah on Y&R, but felt it was wasted potential. So far...he's proving me right.
    • Oh, lord. Those rumors are true, aren't they?
    • Is it supposed to be romantic that Victor and Kyle are using Claire as some sort of contractual agreement? Ridiculous. I was waiting for Claire to squirt water out of the huge flower on her dress. And within minutes of the Monday episode beginning the first mention of ...guess who???
    • I haven't been able to watch GH lately, but I just saw this clip.  Wow.  Rory Gibson is so different from his time at Y&R.  This really speaks to the bad writing at Y&R I guess! A lot of fire here.
    • @soapfan770 Thanks for the Sheri Anderson interview. So she admits to being influenced by Wall Street, but did she really think that 25 years later (going by real time) the audience wouldn't notice the dust off of The Sound of Music?

    • Thanks @soapfan770 . Sheri seems to have a much different take on Emma's husband than I remember the show having.
