Oh thank you so much for thinking of me always

Wow those 1985 episodes were overdramatic, weren't they?  Roya was such a Scarlet O'Hara in that scene with Jack, I love it and I love her

Noelle was really BAD in that scene when Gwyn tell her that Cabot had a stroke. Her facial expression from "Is it Daddy?" to learning it was Cabot does not change at all

I don't know if I have ever seen Jack with facial hair. I like it. He looks sexy

And I love Christine Tudor. I don't understand why she never ended up on another soap opera.

And I love seeing James Kiberd as Mike. I have always loved him as Trevor on AMC and I have seen very little of him as Mike on Loving.

And the 1983... Jack is so cute... as is Chris Marcantel. But this episode I think I have seen before. I remember seeing the shirtless Curtis with the girls

I'm glad you were able to watch and enjoy the episode (hopefully there will be more showing up at some point).

Roya is always a firecracker, with her magnetism making up for the moments where Ava is just there to move the plot along.

I never knew Jack had a beard either. Perry Stephens always looked gorgeous but it was nice to see a different style for him. I wonder if there's some list of the times soap heroes had facial hair (not those who kept it for many years, like Josh on GL).

I know Christine said when she was let go from Loving that she wanted to "get her body back" after having a child, but any planned break she took clearly never ended.

Noelle was very green but had enough of a sincerity to help her.

I hope so too!!

Oh Roya really is a firecracker! And she was perfect cast for Ava.

Perry Stephens is such a classic soap hunk. When I think of 80s/90s soap hunks, that him right there. Perfect hair, nice jaw, beautiful face... Another one I always think of in this category: Thorne #1 from B&B (actor's name escapes me now... I remember seeing his pic in the 90s in the news papers when B&B was starting in my country and I was like omg! :D)

We should start a topic on the soap hunk who sometimes wore beards

I do think Noelle got better later, because I don't remember disliking her in later years which I watched back when I air in my country. I kinda liked Trisha and Steve back then before he died. And you're right she does have sincerity in her acting. She's also very well cast in the role of this young soap ingenue.

Lauren still has a lot of energy and looks well. Another one of those people from Loving who was just sort of left behind by the industry after the show was done.

By the time "Loving" ended her type wasn't big in daytime anymore. Those women who lived their lives fully balancing careers and families were slowly fading and were mostly for women who had been on their shows a while. I do think Taylor would have worked as a Harley surrogate in as the fiesty working class woman. I think she could have been a Reardon (maybe Matt and Bridget's sister) who could be involved with Phillip and/or Rick.

This was 1983 - and at the time I would say Agnes Nixon was the second most powerful woman at ABC Daytime (after Gloria Monty). Nixon sold All My Children to ABC by that time, so she couldn't take AMC elsewhere. But the story goes (as recounted in the Ryan's Hope book) Nixon was threatening to bolt to another network (NBC) and work her magic on their soaps, unless she got Ryan's Hope timeslot. That is something ABC didn't want to happen, so it was easier to switch shows, instead of losing Nixon.

Jim Muneco has uploaded three June 1985 episodes. These have been up before, as the great Loving blog recapped them, but I hadn't seen them, so I'll share them in case you hadn't either.

    • Has BTG been using flashbacks much? Of course, as a new show there aren't many f/b worthy moments but I think they can get by w/o having to use/recreate the Leslie reveal scene. What other 'soap' tropes have they employed or ignored so far? We've talked about the lack of traditional cliffhangers with lingering camera shots. They have done a couple of fantasy scenes. Has anyone apart from Dana had talk to themselves scenes? Montages?
    • Thank You!!! @rsclassicfanforever and to anyone else who contributed to the vaults over the years. I have dipped in/out and gotten my life watching Y&R early years. I never would had the appreciation for characters like Lorie Brooks if not for the Vaults, so again, Thanks.
    • Another lot of skipped episodes to look forward to when the time comes on Videoland. So annoying. They have skipped so many, especially in  season 15 where they skipped 19 episodes throughout the season. Is it just me or is the vault down? It's like a different error message this time so it's hard to know if it's me this time.
    • thank you for uploading the rest of season 12!!! I hope i can get them soon the links down! Thank you again for posting the B&B classic episodes to revisit!!!!
    • Hmm, okay.  BTW, my only problem with Kai & the surgery story is where is this guy's family? And, another BTW, I think I may have inadvertently added to that rumor from last year about a male descendant of Justus Ward. You see, that is an idea I could really get behind! Like I would pay to see those scenes. And, true, I did hear it ... [sheepish grin]

Yes they can. While rare, its not like soaps in the past havent said F that and used flashbacks of a scene even when a recast has been done. OLTL used to do that
    • Well, I am glad to know that & for it to make sense, so thanks for the info &  the perspective, also. At the end of AMC 1.0, I thought the new young talent was really quite good, but I missed Eden & NuBianca just ... well, I wasn't 100% sold on her & Bianca was so important to me. But then, Tad & Dixie were also important & yep, there's another problem, for me I mean. I'm not your typical AMC fan but I hung in there anyway. I know what you mean because it wasn't as good as it once had been but it was still Agnes's show in Pine Valley. Some of that is a bittersweet nostalgic clinging to the past, I guess. By that time I'd been through so many show cancellations. AW, Santa Barbara, PC, The City, GL, ATWT.

Betsy Snyder, when she was at DAYS was part of the WGA winning writing team before she died, tragically far too young.
    • Yep Edmund and Tad went under cover to infiltrate the... Willow Lake (I think?) old folks community scandal that was exploiting Phoebe, etc.  (Which at one point led to Edmund rescuing Brooke from quicksand--common around Pine Valley I guess

) EDIT maybe I'm wrong.  I found the quicksand scene

But for the story all I can find is Edmund going undercover as the gigolo "preying" on older women, Eduardo (no one would recognize him with that disguise and name ) so the drag must have been.. a different story?
    • But then he HATES the original Heather Webber (Cher's half sister played her, right?) and we know what happened when Robin would step into the role a year after this.  He does seem pretty spot on about actors who show promise otherwise.  It's interesting he knocks OLTL early on (though I loved all the recently released episodes from this era we got) but does give a lot of credit to the actress playing Cathy despite earlier complaining about her story.  And over all, while quite negative, his various pros and cons on the shows sounds about right with what I know of the shows at this time. This was a July dated issue of the magazine but and I know they date mags a month or two in advance--obviously when he wrote this he didn't know Lovers and Friends was gonna go off the air (in May I think).
