Executive producer of the ABC Television Network’s "General Hospital"

Jill Farren Phelps was named executive producer of "General Hospital" in December, 2000.

Prior to joining "General Hospital," Phelps served as executive producer of the ABC Daytime drama "One Life to Live," from December, 1997, through December, 2000. She has also served as executive producer of the Daytime drama "Another World," where she improved the key demographic of women 18-49 by 34%. Her vision for the show included launching a controversial adultery storyline with two core characters, the creation of a dynamic new opening and innovative new sets. From 1991-95 Phelps took the helm of the longest-running Daytime soap, "Guiding Light."

She began her television career in 1974 as a production assistant on "Guiding Light." From 1977-84 Phelps became an Emmy Award-winning music director on the ABC Daytime drama "General Hospital." In 1984 she joined "Santa Barbara," where she ultimately rose to the position of executive producer.

During her tenure the drama garnered three consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series.

Phelps studied at Carnegie Mellon University, where she received a BFA in directing. She stage-managed at New Jersey's McCarter Theater before becoming a production assistant for various New York stage productions, including shows directed by Mike Nichols and Bob Fosse.
