If this is true then this is a most dirty, low down move on DirecTV's part! I mean seriously, they went through a great deal of trouble to make the switch. Lots and lots of promoting the show and saying that they are pleased with Passions being on their network. Something doesn't sound right at all.

Yes, it could have. I watched the first several months. I thought it was absolutely awful. It's stayed true to that. I was about seventeen and after the first three weeks I thought it was an insult to my intelligence, couldn't stand it anymore, and kept switching back and forth between it and ABC.

Passions had potential to be a BRILLIANT soap, but the writing and casting was abysmal. I truly believe a good team of writers could've made this the next Dark Shadows, but JER"s team was just horrible.

BTW, TV Guide CA's Suds Report says PSNS has been renewed for a couple more years. My guess is that they're just slow, but hey it's something!

Passions, atleast IMO, was at it's best at the very start. The best thing JER has done in his entire career is create this show. He stuck to the rules, and created, in many ways, a traditional soap with a rich family rivaling a lower middle class clan. He also created an african american family and a family with ties to law inforcement.

I remember feeling shocked, that this writer, whom had finished destroying the Hortons, and made the Brady's a weak and dumb clan, created a soap with such a strong family emphasis. These families were diverse, and basically he stuck to their socioeconmic backgrounds.

However, Reilly started to slowly destory his own good ideas, and turned the soap into a farce. I think he gets a kick out of taking a grounded, family oriented soap, and turning it upside down. He took his own soap and did the same thing to it that he did to Days, and would have done to GL.

After it was revealed that Ethan was not Julian's son, I think the show spiraled. That episode was as good as it got for Passions, and after the credits rolled that day, the show lost all it's class. It was a great idea and the execution was wonderful. It was simply the last good storyline I remember on this show.

Passions was given more chances than the other canceled NBC soaps but apparently still didn't succeed. Passions had such potential and JER had fans watching over the years but he didn't seem to care if he kept them watching, but instead he pissed a lot of fans off so they quit watching. I don't see Passions ever being successful on any network as long as JER is there and since he's not going anywhere, it's time for Passions and JER to ride off into the sunset.

Even if Passions were to be picked up by another outlet, I don't know why the actors would want to stay on a show that keeps getting canceled and probably would be canceled again unless the actors thought they couldn't find another good paying job. I hope the actors that still want acting jobs do find jobs, and I would love to see some of them on other shows or soaps.

Like a previous post said -- with the exception of a few people like Juliet Mills, Ben Masters and John Reilly, much of the cast took this material and couldn't do a thing with it. The acting on some days was worse than a third-grade school play. And yet the show lasted nine years.

I'm not knocking the program or those who watched it beyond that. Passions had a following, and for better or for worse it had an effect on the genre.

I think if NBC had treated its other soaps fairly in the transition and dealt with the affiliates fairly to add a fourth show to the lineup, then Passions' numbers may have risen to the point where it had a viable shot at higher ratings. Instead, NBC pretty much drove a portion of Passions' potential viewership away with its bonehead decision to ax two soaps.

I don't know why DirecTV didn't give the show more of a chance. The writers strike, maybe?

I sure hope other shows get a fair chance to move over to satellite and that this didn't destroy that hope. Hell, DirecTV could create an online soap for its audience.

I really find it funny how people said in this thread that PSNS "wasn't a soap" when, throughout its entire run, PSNS has been criticized for being TOO soapy. Also, I want to point out that the cast of PSNS would probably not stay on the show (like some have for 9 years) if they didn't like their jobs.

I think it would be awesome to be on PSNS. You don't even have to put on clothes to go to work if you're a guy.

The Writers Strike didn't really effect Passions, at least I don't think so...didn't ALL the writers, at least the major ones, cross the picket lines?

I am not sure if its just because they realized their mistakes with other soaps, or the fact that its a JER creation. NBC LOVES JER to death.
