Welcome_to_Llanview.jpg

Welcome to the One Life to Live Discussion Thread for the week of October 8th, 2007. It looks to be a great week on OLTL, as the judge decides custody of Tommy and Langston's secret is uncovered. Hope you enjoy your visit and are prepared to discuss the interworkings of Llanview, PA and OLTL. If so, then you're in the right place.

So let the discussion of the good, bad, and ugly that is Llanview, Pennsylvania & One Life to Live begin...

I don't think there's much to say, lol, other than the fact that OLTL has been so very consistently good lately! I love it almost as much as I love B&B at the moment! :D (but the old Y&R still wins over all of that :D)

I've enjoyed Marcie and Michael fighting -- I find Marcie more interesting. This is reminding me of what soap stories used to be about -- heartache, family torn apart and no stupid BS from someone the audience doesn't know or care for. I'm loving it!

Loved the show today!

OneRepublic rocked today. Love their new song. The little montage at the end worked well.

Kathy Brier. Deserves. A. EMMY!!!!! She was excellent today. The Tommy story continues to draw me in.

Langston coming to terms about her parents today had me on the verge of tears today. RS and the actress that plays Langston really played off well.

My heart broke for Marcie and Langston today. Marcie loves Tommy with all her heart and he's being taken away from her. She has every right to be pissed at Michael and her reaction was dead on. I know this Marcie and Tommy on the run s/l should be good. Kathy deserves an Emmy for this s/l.

Langston and Dorian had me in tears today. I mean her parents died a year and a half ago and that poor girl is just now coming to terms with it. I don't see how she was able to raise herself for so long.

Great show today!

I was watching on Soapnet..and loved the song too. It is on Timbaland's CD. The version on the show was without Timbaland. I kind of liked that version better than the one with Timbaland on it.

    • "Aunt Blanche" first appears toward the end of this episode, about 57 minutes in.

    • You're probably right. They may have just wanted edits of certain characters. Hopefully the rest is around.

I'm wondering if there were bits cut from this footage, because to me it seems that may be the case. At 11:23, Laurie tells her psychiatrist that the bar phoned and told her Mark got into a fight and needs to be picked up. It starts to fade to the next scene, you hear some different music begin and get cut off between the static, and where you'd expect to see the aftermath of the fight, we cut back to a later scene of Laurie in bed worrying about what's happening. The credits at the end also show that more than Mark, Laurie and Dr. Northcote should have been in this episode. Another character, Brody, played by Ed Setrakian, is mentioned but not shown. If this is the case, perhaps the original fan who saved this episode has the additional scenes.
    • Anyway… It’s a shame that the video that depicted Leticia’s death was removed from YT.

I've never seen a trainwreck like this in my entire life. 5 pencils and 3 dolls?!!!!!!!!!!! (this little moment starts close to the 7th minute) WOW. THIS IS HAPPENING IN AMERICA?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Ms. Phelps holds a BFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University, awarded in 1972. At a time when women were underrepresented in directing programs, she was one of the few women in her graduating class. To suggest that she possessed no further talents than completely changing the style of music used on soaps seems like a vast underestimate when one reads her online biography through an objective lens. I guess that I should be more clever than to constantly blame misogyny for these misguided interpretations of her management style.  But, I'll never comprehend why fans unquestionably align their opinions even years after fact. Post-modernism, and the ability to reinterpret context through the study of history, seems to elude this conversation.

    • This is 100% correct.  It was even on the nightly news where the US Government would not let the cast and crew travel to Egypt because it was deemed not safe.  The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on October 7, 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. The location shoot was probably scheduled to be filmed in mid-October to air throughout November with a two week tape to air date.  Remember on the show they did some in studio scenes doubling for Egypt before shifting the action to Arizona.  It was an awkward end to a truly bizarre storyline.

New episode from late 1973 or early 1974!
    • Coronation Street had a very good story where one of the characters befriended a man who she later learned had been involved in her husband's death - when told right it can be very powerful (not like AMC trying to make it a romance). ATWT almost had a big fire in mid-1994, so this seemed to be a "thing" with P&G at the time. I guess it fits the disaster backstage atmosphere.
