Bianca Andreescu was hungry and played like there was no tomorrow. Serena's serve let her down and her footwork stopped and by the time she was able to play up to her normal standard, it was too late for her.

Congrats to Andreescu!  I've known since the beginning of the season that she has been one who could snatch titles.

Let's not have a contest about who can be a drama queen because according to Kerber, Bianca has made a name for herself in that category as well, lol.

That second set was thrilling. It's rare to see a tennis match get that level of full-on, full-throated cheering and excitement.

Lawd!  24 is there but Serena cant get across that finish line.  In finals, we aren't getting the game we get in the previous 6 matches.  No serve, no movement. Ugh!  Anywho, Bianca has a great game and I welcome the changing of the guard.  I did it with Martina, Steffi and now Serena.

Yes Bianca! She did it!  First Canadian (man or woman) to win a grand slam!  What a huge year for Canadian sports - with the Raptors winning their first Championship. And first person born in the 2000's to win a grand slam.

Bianca's game is so good, and so fun to watch. I love her violent forehand swing, and her crouching swing.   That second set was so tense.  She was so close to winning and then Serena started to come back and you're just like, "She's only 19......what if she can't handle this pressure?"  But she prevailed and that's going to great for her experience, to go through a match like that where the crowd was rooting heavily for her opponent.

Not to mention, that match looked to be over in 3.  Med made it a thriller.  He gave viewers what they came to see.

I was a bit peeved at Nadal for what appeared to be intentional breaks of Med's momentum by repeatedly stopping play.  But he paid for it with the shot clock violations so I'm good.  The ump was not playing with Nadal last night.  The double faults were a direct result of shorter prep time when serving.  The 40 second prep is over!

Nadal has violated that rule many more times than he has actually been caught.  Tennis is very selective about who they punish and it makes them look ridiculous as an organization.

You have people who bash holes into umpires' chairs and pretending to fire guns getting smaller fines than players swiping at a blade of glass.

Also,

how is it determined that CSN was giving 'not enough effort'?  How is that determined?

You have verbal abuse warnings for some...fine, but let it be in a language or slang that an official isn't familiar with and the offender gets absolutely no warning, even if everybody heard it.

Pundits still complain about grunting as though it is solely a women's tennis issue when, at this point there are just as many male players who grunt (and loudly) during matches.

When the shot clock rule was introduced, I was one of those who dismissed it.  One, I really thought the effect would be negligible on the actual running time of the match (surface speeds, balls, etc. are far more important factors, imo) and I just didn't care and third, like many other of tennis' rules, many players who are often habitual offenders would find a way around it anyway.

Now that the shot clock rule is here and in effect, however, I think that either tennis needs to apply and enforce it, equally and judiciously or just get rid of the rule altogether.  Tennis as a sport looks ridiculous nowadays.

Re: Serena/Bianca ratings: many may have thought Serena was finally gonna snatch No. 24 or were anticipating another meltdown like last year. Serena’s always going to be box office, though.

Not surprised at all about Nadal/Medvedev. That was a classic. Djokovic/Delpo in 2018 was a rout.

I’d be more interested in seeing the numbers over time. Many may have opted out on Nadal/Medvedev thinking it was going to be a cakewalk for Rafa, only tuning in when they got word it was becoming a tight match.

Back-to-back men’s Grand Slam finals with actual drama and stakes? When was the last time we had that?

Luckily, EJ and Johnny, and pretty much every other character saved today’s episode.  I didn’t expect Javi to be the one to save Sarah though, and I don’t mind it at all, because if it means that Javi is finally going to get his own identity/character, away from his douchy bf, I’m all for it. Javi’s scenes would’ve been a lot better had it not been for him. EJ and Johnny were the best part of today. Their conversation hit a lot of important beats and I’m so looking forward to seeing them play out. And now that EJ knows that Johnny is going to work for Xander, that opens up another dynamic to their storyline and to the Kiriakis family storylines as well. Tying them all together could be really good. There are so many story possibilities that can come out of this. And I thought Carson Boatman did a pretty good job again too.  I also liked that Johnny was there to comfort Chanel after everything that happened with Sarah. They’re so good together. But I do have mixed feelings about Chanel possibly forgiving Johnny so quickly. Hopefully, the question that she asked him at the end of today leads to more conflict for the two of them.  And yeah, still no changes in Alex’s character lol
    • Awesome, thanks so much for taking the time to grab the episode. I had a quick review of your rip because I was curious why it was 700MB and 30 minutes. The first 10 minutes of the episode is 3169 (opening credits at 5 minutes and again at 15 minutes). The full HD version of ep.3170 is on YouTube channel:

    • That's a name I haven't heard in a minute. Thanks!
    • Well, since I'm still up unexpected past my growing-into-it bedtime. lol.   I finally got to rewatch Monday's. I even rewatched Friday's to take it all in. Now that we got the reveal and hit the climax of the SilkPress Sheila storyline, now we get to watch the aftermath and/or turns that come with its climax. So far, so good. Friday left us with three cliffhangers. And what I found surprising was how I felt about them over a rewatch.    I know some of you all felt a way about the dialogue during Kat vs Eva. I remember liking it more the first time around and it was nice for them to have these scenes to establish more of a frenemy vibe for them going forward. That still held up. But I found myself agreeing with you all about that dialogue. lol. Still, it was nice to have both of their POVs.   Second up was Silk Press Sheila vs the Duprees. And I was happy to get a brief spat with Dani in there. But the rest standouts for me was Anita and Martin. Haters can hate and given the tail end of the episode, I will agree to a fault, but Brandon has impressed and he was on fire on Monday and had great subtle work on Friday. And that subtle work made it all the better. Like I believe I said when I was watching...BC has a much better grip on his character and seems to be realizing what his tics are so has started to be able to know when to turn it up and when to dial it down. And for the most part (emphasis on most), he got that. Meanwhile, TT was giving fierceness, and I was here for every minute of it. Her reading SilkPress. Her being quip about it. Her 'BE STILL.' Ooooo she had a chokehold on me as Anita gave what I was expecting her to SilkPress. WORTH THE WAIT. I also loved Vernon's CHOOSE SILENCE. I wonder though if SilkPress will figure out Martin's condition from her observing Anita and Vernon with him.   And speaking of worth it...Oooo YES Nicole vs Ted was worth totally worth it. Oooooo I knew DD would nail it, and it was all so well done. The fight between the part of Nicole who is a therapist vs Nicole as a woman who wants to express how she feels. And being so angry. And how there would be moments when it would shoot out of her. And how she would restrain herself. But how she felt she should not be restrain. Just the levels of processing and layers. And DD played it all so well. I do wish Maurice gave just a little bit more, but overall, I thought he did a good job even if it was just Ted coming across as a deadbeat and not at all redeemable. And Kat being there for her mother was so beautiful.   Minority, but I love the montage though yes, it did run a little long. Given how the Duprees like to bond (and also as I mentioned from my own very recent family experiences), it did not seem out of place to me.     That said...let's see how the aftermath worked in today's episode. Overall. Cuz RC can be hit or miss.
    • I wonder whose brilliant (

) idea it was to do an almost complete rip-off of the "who killed Tom King"-storyline. That's some quality style writing right there.....
