Well, Cilic appealed his and the time was brought down from his original time for suspension.

Sharapova has taken the blame publicly and not requested the B sample to be tested so I don't know whether this is an option in her case.

I did just read that the ITF starts with 4 years for intentional, 2 years for unintentional, 1 year for "no significant fault" and 0 years for "no fault".  The last option is completely out since Sharapova has publicly assumed responsibility.

The question is, which of the other 3 options will the ITF apply in her case?

It's for first time offenses. Cilic was a first time offender and he originally had gotten close to 2 years…but was reduced to 7 months after he appealed.

According to CNBC, Nike has suspended its relationship with Sharapova after her failed drug test.

Apparently the drug is not sold in the U.S., Australia and I believe not in Western Europe either (definitely not FDA approved) and is only made in Latvia.  It seemed to have been popular with a number of athletes from the former Soviet Union.

And per usual, Jennifer Capriati has taken to twitter to rant.

I didn't read them.  Several people told me that she has been ranting on Twiter about how her career was taken for doing far less than some are being accused of now.  Then someone told her that the substance was not banned when Sharapova started taking it a decade ago and it recently became and Capriati then proceeded to ask why.  Although I heard she proceeded to rant further about her own missed opportunities.  She's probably still ranting now.

Ha….she was caught stealing and wasn't she doing drugs too at the time? All that she did was done intentionally. She has no one to blame but herself.

Yeah, marijuana.  Capriati is remembering things the way they never were.  When I first discovered these Twitter rants I felt sorry for her but I got a chance to read a few myself and she was espousing some weird and disturbing ideas so I avoid even looking nowadays, I take people's word for it when they claim she's gone off the rails again.

One last thing I'll mention and then I'm just going to leave it alone because I'd rather see how this investigation pans out from here on out:

A Russian blogger stated that apparently Russian athletes had been warned in October about meldonium and there was a recall across all sports.  In the AP article, some Russian ice dancer did claim that she wouldn't knowingly take a supplement with melodronium as she had been warned against taking it by the Russian Sports Federation, so the blogger's statement does make sense.

She had at least two shoulder surgeries and neither helped get her back to professional form.  She was out quite a bit before she announced her retirement, probably she was trying to rehab the shoulder and ultimately called it quits.

This NYT article about Sharapova offers a lot more detail about the situation:

A few Doctors have said they would never prescribe this medication to a young woman of childbearing age.  In one interview that I listened to last night, one Doctor said for an irregular EKG, he would've prescribed Fish Oil, so the explanation does not make sense to him.  Sponsors are currently deserting Sharapova left and right, I must admit, the situation looks sad.

    • '92. I was looking for when Vanessa called Billy a sonofabitch. Then I got sucked into '92 and got rewarded by finding Vanessa and Mo getting sloshed. (3/6/92, I believe). Then the Blackout...lol, and just kept falling down the rabbit hole. This is lateOct/earlyNov. I couldn't believe my ears!  Reva's marriage to Billy was before they came to town. But yeah... Maybe it was Harley and Gus that CarJack lost to later. thanks! Thanks @Paul Raven  this is a fascinating read.
    • I just have this feeling Bill and Leslie about to be the next big thing. Not sure what that means for Hayley but if they want to be messy they could put her in Jacob's orbit. They had a bit of chemistry during their scene at Orphey Gene's a few months back.
    • You give her alot of credit. I really think she is in her feelings about what she feels Eva did to her. If this was just an act, there really wouldnt be a need to throw away her picture when she was alone. She's not feeling Eva right now and isnt thinking logically, which has been the case for her for much of this plan. I think she'll go back to Eva once she's calmed down but i dont think she's faking She's mad and in her feelings
    • Did anyone like Greg/Paige as a couple? There was an age gap (in 1988 William Devane was 49 and Nicollette Sheridan was 25) but the ick factor to me was Paige being the daughter of Greg's frenemy Mack and at one point it was thought Greg was Paige's father. Also I didn't feel that Greg/Paige were a genuine love, it seemed more like mid-life crisis/rebound. Of all of Greg's main pairings (Abby, Laura, Paige), to me the only genuine love was Laura.
    • I think it’s all an act. I think she’s cutting off Eva because she knows her daughter will run to Ted and counting on him on being a decent human being, he obviously will take in Eva. Once Eva and Ted have formed a bond Leslie will either use this to try and worm her way into Ted’s good graces and/or use Eva to destroy the Dupree/Richardson family form within. I don’t think Leslie is quite done with Eva just yet, she knows after all of this she still has a pull over that girl.
    • I like Haley, but she was being irritating today as Peg Bundy.

    •  Now she won’t get to experience Nicole’s kindness or the fresh scent of Fabreeze
    • I really don't understand Leslie.  Cutting off her daughter now leaves her with absolutely nothing and no bargaining chip...
    • And for all we know, there might be other siblings that Jacob has that haven't been mentioned yet.  It wouldn't be the first time a prodigal son and/or daughter is not mentioned by the family. A middle class family that's involved with the police force and police force adjacent would be a nice contrast with the more wealthy Duprees.  There is a lot of story material to mine from that dynamic.
