I dont post that much, but after watching the july 4th show, i have to say, i prefer belle and phillip over belle and shawn. I find shawn to be a stupid person who doesnt think at all, like he never had any type of education. and i realized that belle and phillip have much more chemistry also. When kyle played philliped, i saw zero chemisty bewteen him and martha. however jy and martha to me seem to have way better chemisty. I find brandon to be very dull and has the same face all the time. either he doesnt know how to smile or takes way to many shots of botox. i dont know how everyone else thinks, but i prefer phillip and belle.

Honestly, I want the triangle awhile longer. Imagine, a triangle based on character-driven and realistic conflict. It really is surprising. Belle loves Shawn. However, Shawn has no job and has always been a bit of an impulsive hothead like his father. Then there's Phillip who she also has feelings for. He has the financial resources to give Claire a good and stable lifestyle, but he has a cruel streak and can be deceitful and possessive. Not to mention that the chemistry between both couples is really very natural. I'm enjoying this story quite a bit.

The triangle is alright, but I much prefer Phillip and Belle over Shawn and Belle. I kinda want Claire to turn out to be Phillip's just because.

Heck, since all the other soaps are into incest (Gus's son and Harley's daughter on GL, or Rick and Phoebe on B&B or even Tammy and Jonathan on GL), why not just do Chelsea and Shawn?

I agree I much prefer Phillip and Belle as well. Shawn's such an arrogant jerk a lot. Shawn really needs to grow up imho. I still hold out hope that Claire is really Phillip's. She doesn't look like she could be Shawn's at all imho (Ava & Olivia White bare no resemblence to either former or current Shawn) and looks more like former and curren Phillips. Give Shawn a worth new love interest after this story plays out for a little more.

I have a huge crush on JKJ right now. This current mature and complex Philip is a far cry (but a good one!) from Philip in his teen days or even Brandt's mature but extremely dull Philip. He has oodles of chemistry with just about everyone he's in a scene with.

I definitely think the ship has sailed for Shelle..they should have been over in '99. There is nothing about the couple that screams supercouple except for the fact that they are the children of supercouples. Actually, the fact that they are makes this pairing soo forced. Character-wise, Shawn & Belle together just aren't interesting. I'm liking how they are showing the complexities of Belle & Philip's relationship and characters just by these simple but meaningful conversations. Belle has been so uptight lately and it's good that someone finally calls her out on it and tell her to live a little. I love the irony that "stable" Philip is the one giving her this advice over volatile Shawn.

I have always been a Shawn and Belle fan, but recently I am starting to enjoy Phelle alot more. Shawn has been on a downward spiral since his divorce and is looking really unappealing to me lately. It reminds me of the conversations I have with my sister when we talk about men that are worth dating. "Does he have a car? (I guess I am not sure on this one, but I thought he got a DUI) Does he have a job? (no grrrr why doesnt Shawn have a job yet??) Does he live with his parents?" Ouch!! Shawn is a father and failed :( it makes me sad because I loved Shawn, he just never grew up.

    • It was one of the bigger disappointments that Sarah wasn't part of the book.
    • They clearly loved her offcamera. I wish I could appreciate her work more, but...I don't. Thanks for telling me what Levin said at the end. I still don't think Carney was bad, but I guess he would always see them as not shining compared to Kate.
    • Around 2002, when I would have killed Alan, I'd bring back Amanda, who would have a love/hate relationship with Philip mirroring Alan and Alex, I'd have a proper Alex recast, I might bring back Alan-Michael (and maybe Hope or Mike on recurring), and I'd bring in a long-lost son for Philip who would be around his late teens or early twenties.  I agree that Philip would still need a rival. That's where giving Roger another long-lost kid (not Sebastian) could have worked in this timeframe.
    • @ranger1rg @DemetriKaneI was sure I was swimming upstream alone on this. I get that they are all proud to be Duprees, but the writers are just overplaying it. Ted's an ass, but presumably, he's been a model husband for the last 25 (?) years...but he just isn't good enough (or can handle or whatever..) a Dupree woman? *cough* I guess the next "shocker" is whatever Vernon and Anita's secret is. I hope it's something a little more original than him cheating on Anita.
    • Yes, that was probably to he case. In  the book, after Malcolm Groome (Pat) said he dated Kathleen Tolan,  he said he saw her theater work and found her to be  "compelling and charismatic actress"  In one of Ilene Kristen's many video interviews promoting the book, she also praised Kathleen.
    • David knowing Burke was going to die and making sure to say goodbye to him was very unnerving. Some of the last moments where David Henesy's otherworldly vibes from those first few years are put to good use. I agree that the few months right before 1795 are excellent. They do a great job with building suspense and going through insane twists.  DS was never going to be able to have a long run anyway, with the high burnout rate and a number of principal cast not likely to stay, but I do wonder what might have been if they had done a better job with the present day after the return from 1795.
    • Off of the Xander/Paulina scenes in Thursday's episode, I really hope that means we're getting Theo coming home permanently. I didn't really see much of Cameron Johnson in the role, and though he was pretty and I'm thankful for his occasional thirst traps on Insta, Kyler Pettis could not act, so a brand new recast would be fine by me, but if you all think Cameron doesn't a real shot, I'd be fine with that, too. I just want Theo to be taken seriously as a character for once and make his place on this show like he deserves. I was annoyed the second Susan showed up again, but I do admit it was interesting to see her reunite with Marlena and see their dynamic when EJ joined them. Hopefully now we're done with her forever. As for John, this last bit of hope Marlena is getting before the inevitable is already so devastating. This is going to be so hard to watch. Xander reminding the audience he IS a cold blooded murderer, point blank. Paul Telfer was devilishly terrifying. Taking off his jacket was such a sexy power move. That Philip doesn't have a permanent dent in his face will be a miracle. It'll be interesting if it'll just be the one punch or if next week will see Philip more battered and bruised. How bad are they going to make Xander look? I will say, the best part of this story is that I'm not rooting for one over the other. How Philip reacts to this violence will be interesting. I also liked how everything with stealing the drug ended up. Very messy. Steve even made me laugh at one point, and I've been indifferent to him for years. I hope poor Kevin doesn't get scapegoated, but it'll be nice to see him presumably reunite with Shawn next. We'll be really lucky if Belle somehow crosses paths with him, too.
    • I've really been enjoying seeing him/Smitty interact with other actors/characters
    • She didn't want a hotel room; doubt she's going to want the apartment room, either. There was no reason to re-arrange the other one. This was the most logical move.
    • I just hope they don't move that lady in their apartment. Same. And Mike seemed to enjoy those scenes.
