Both AOL and dialidol were wrong. I am still going to follow them but it's clear both of them aren't accurate this year for whatever reason.

It was Haley's time. It was lon overdue. It's sad because I liked her until she started obsessing far too much over what the judges though and then you could tell there was some definite tension between the judges and her. I am glad she is gone. She should have been gone last week over Gina. I am pleased that one of the elusive trio has finally been released. Now I hope Phil and Sanjaya are next.

Jennifer was good. I love her personality. I thought that was Sharon Osborne but wasn't sure. I like the results show being an hour. The group performance was back and the show could breathe. Plus, we had a chance to see the eliminated singer perform for the last time and not get cut off. I liked that.

Lakisha was the bottom on both polls so I was really fretful for her. She looked worried, too when Ryan asked her to stand up. I thought she could go because her last three performances weren't good, but obviously she has some fans who will vote for her just because they loved her voice in the beginning. If she messes up another time or two, though, I think they will desert her.

The only reason I was surprised that Haley left was that both online polls had her placed well up in the rankings. Other than that, I can see her leaving now. I am very impressed with the way she handled herself in the end and hope she has a lot of good offers. She is certainly beautiful, has a fun disposition and is built well. Her voice needs a lot of training.

I thought it was fun the way Ryan played with Sanjaya. It was obvious they had that cooked up because of the playful knowing look they had when the eight were first brought out on stage. I'm happy he is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

I don't know who will go next. I'm really stymied. I hope it isn't Jordin. I know it won't be Melinda or Blake so whoever else it is will just have to go sometimes.

Sanjaya in your top 3???!! Lakisha a trainwreck!?!??!? Lakisha was awesome! Sanjaya was good, but definitely not Top 3 (Lakisha & Melinda both were better than him, much better!).

But anyway, Me and you agree on Blake & Phil.

Lakisha has been constantly in the Top 3 since the start of the top 12 IMHO.

You're one of the very few impressed with Haley that I've seen on the boards. Any recording company or producer worth anything wouldn't want Haley on their roster, since she can't sing. Maybe she'll get offers from stripclubs, and porn producers, since she's so slutty looking. She definitely didn't handler herself well at all. She smiled likea little be-atch when Gina got voted off last weeek. She definitely IS NOT beautiful by no means. SHe's slutty looking at times, and when she's not she's either trying to look like Kat McPhee or Kelly Clarkson, but it's impossible since both of them are pretty and sexy and that's far from what she is. Her despositiion comes off as bitchy and copycat and ho-like.

Today I figured it out. A lot of the reason for Jordin's appeal. She SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO has that whole "Ugly Betty" thing going on. think about it. Not that she's ugly, she's not. But she is chunky. And she REALLY reminds you of America, the actress. I'm convinced. Jordin's appeal comes from "Ugly Betty"!!!

Yes Jsf, She is a REAL woman, but I think she has an amazing voice and personality as well and that's a lot of her appeal, not just her being "chunky"

Melinda, LaKisha, and Jordin are all beautiful real women and not plastic barbie doll wannabees. It's so refreshing.

Martina McBride is on Idol next week, I guess.

I can happily say I did not watch Idol Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm boycotting it, although it's a relief to hear Haley went. Phil needs to go next followed by Sanjaya. I do think we might see Lakisha possibly get eliminated before Sanjaya though.

I honestly blame the judges for Sanjaya being there. My god what were they thinking?

And yeah, Country week did in Mandisa .... I bet it will do in LaKisha as well :(

American Idol – Why The Three Best Singers Won’t Make The Top Three

Melinda Doolittle, Lakisha Jones, and Jordin Sparks are the three best singers left in the American Idol 6 competition by many accounts. However, it is very unlikely that these three will ultimately be the top three in the competition. Why will the three best singers not be the last three standing?

Even though many viewers will likely scream racism or sexism when one of these three undoubtedly makes an early exit, the fact of the matter is that American Idol is probably one of the least racist and sexist shows on television. Unlike our American political system which puts a white male in the President’s office every four years, American Idol has only had one white male winner in the five previous seasons.

Of the five previous American Idol winners, sixty percent have been female and forty percent have been African-American. In fact, the results of American Idol could be perceived as a positive step forward for the country’s youth that make up a large part of American Idol’s voting population, because the majority appear to be willing to put sex and race aside and vote for their favorite singer. Even the audience members that like to vote for the worst singer don’t appear to be influenced by sex or race when selecting the worst singer to support.

The reason that it is unlikely that Melinda Doolittle, Lakisha Jones, and Jordin Sparks will make the top three is because America is a country made up of individuals with diverse tastes. Three singers with somewhat similar styles have never made it to the top three on American Idol and likely never will. No matter how good they might be in their genre of music, three singers with similar styles will always wind up canceling each others votes to a degree.

American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe admitted as much during a recent media conference call. Lythgoe said “I’ve seen the three divas, if you remember they were Latoya London, Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia. And I’ve seen them cancel each other out. So I’m always wary; I let everyone else say it’s this and that. Don’t forget, I know the results every week so I can do my own equations, thank you, and so it’s really difficult for me to talk about it, but I would just counsel that this has occurred before. Don’t jump to any conclusions at this moment in time. So that’s why I’m saying it is an open race at the moment because people can end up canceling each [other] out.”

What will likely happen at some point in the competition is that one of the three will have an incredible performance while another one of the three has an off night. The incredible performance will draw in the majority of the votes, and the off night performance will be gone.

I think LaKisha would be great, in fact, back in her element to sing a Country gospel or soul song. It could be her saving. Whereas Mandisa lost after the country week, she chose a song completely out of her element and performed it with an unfamilar air about her. Her fans didn't like it and neither did I. So, I'm hoping LaKisha is given good advice about playing up her strong suit. Her fans most likely would not be turned off by a Country gospel with soul.

I'm pulling for Jordin Sparks or Melinda Doolittle to win.

Lakisha's not bad, but there's something about her personality that I don't like... she comes across to me as fake. I can't put my finger on why, but if I could, it would smell bad (Golden Girls joke! LoL).

Meanwhile, Melinda has such a charm about her that's just adorable. She's so quiet and ladylike, but then she'll randomly say something that's so funny and adorable -- I love it. I think she looks a bit too old, though. I'm not sure what her age really is, but she looks mid-30's, and when I think "American Idol," I think of someone like Kelly Clarkson, who's younger. I'd still be pleased if she won, though.

Then there's Jordin, who just has the whole package. She's got curves, but she's not fat. She seems very fun, bubbly and down to earth. She has the perfect look, she's the right age... and she's got the talent. Her voice can be developed even more over time. She also seems to have alot of confidence in herself, although it doesn't come across as cockiness. And I love how she's been wearing her hair straight, it makes her look GORGEOUS. I'm rooting for her to win, above all the others (thus far).

Then there's Sanjaya. Could it be more obvious that American Idol is pimping him every week just to win him votes? They know he's got a buzz surrounding him because of his idiotic hair, and they're relying on that buzz to get people talking about the show, despite the fact that Sanjaya really shouldn't be there. During the performance show this week, they waited to show Sanjaya as the final performance (saving the 'best for last') and they even made a big game out of it when they announced the bottom three ("Sanjaya, stand up. No, sit down. Okay, stand up again... no, sit down."). American Idol blatantly shows favoritism and because of that, it sways the votes unfairly. That said, Sanjaya does have some sort of strange charm about him that you can't help but like.

I love Jordin, and she's my pick to win this year. Melinda definitely has the voice to win, but I think she comes across as much older than she is. The age limit means she's in her 20s, but I always think of her as being in her mid to late 30s. That may be enough to keep her from winning, especially if she's in the finals with Jordin, who appears more marketable. I do think Melinda looked nice on the results show in her jeans and casual top; she performs wearing dresses and they usually don't suit her. Definitely, she should stay away from those wide belts she seems to favor; not flattering AT ALL.

    • I was watching some August 1987 episodes and they brought back so many memories. I had some thoughts: Lisa and Jamie were so dull. Lisa was such a nothing character. It boggles my mind that so much story was centered around her in such a short amount of time. Joanna Going is a talented actress, but the material was just not there.  It was so good to see Wallingford and Mitch again. I know there was talk about Felicia a while back, but these episodes reminded me how integral Felicia was for the show.  Sally Spencer was done so dirty. She is turning in superb performances in an icky storyline. I wish she had stuck around longer. She has chemistry with everyone. The McKinnons should have lasted longer. Spencer had some strong stuff with Stephen Schnetzer and Mary Alexander. AW waster such a talented actress by getting rid of her. Justice for Cheryl too. I also missed Ed Fry when he left. Sandra Ferguson was a star from the moment she came on. She was charismatic and just popped. She had immediate chemistry with RKK and blended in well with Wyndham and Watson. I'd forgotten about the teenage Matthew.  I have no memory of Peggy Lazarus. She must not have lasted long. Was the original plan for John that he was going to turn out to be the twins' real father?
    • If the new and improved copies that @rsclassicfanforever has uploaded can be manually moved into the "by month, by year" folders, that would be awesome. I personally don't think it's necessary to keep the older versions (which either have Dutch subtitles hard coded on them, or are lesser in picture quality). That's a lot of valuable drive space that could be cleared. Just my view but can appreciate others may feel differently. The structure had been by month by year previously, so I think it would be easier to conform to that, where so much prior work to get it to that format has already been done. Hopefully you can "drag and drop" so the new copies are in the right month/year? Re Clips, I never look at them now we pretty much have the episodes in full. Appreciate others may use, however. Thanks for all your hard work here @BoldRestless!
    • Oh yes defintely, Josh Griffith repeats and repeats the same storylines.
    • Isnt’t this storyline similar to the Cameron Kirsten situation though? Sharon thought she killed him. He ended up being alive and Sharon was being tormented with thinking she was seeing his face everywhere and that’s how we got that iconic scene with her and Nikki in the sewers.   I understand in Mariah’s case this is different circumstances but it does seem like a play on that whole thing. Maybe I’m wrong. I just wish if they were going to make any character follow in Sharon’s foot steps it would be Faith. Mariah wasn’t even raised by her, and her personality is different. I would expect her to take a different path. I understand I could be completely jumping ahead because the storyline hasn’t even played out yet but we’ll see.
    • Thanks again @Paul Raven Monica was completely without redeeming qualities at this point. I always found the whole Monica = Carly narrative regressive, as I don't think shows comparing characters so heavily is ever a great idea, but she's actually worse than Carly was. Was it the Pollocks who had Leslie have a miscarriage?  Giving her a child, especially by rape, was not a good idea, but a part of me wishes they'd committed to it just to see what story it might have had in later years.
    • @janea4old Your detailed explanation and delving into the psychology and motivations is no doubt the opposite of what we will see onscreeen. As @ranger1rg stated we will get a few scenes and some sketchy explanations. Like the adoption of Aria, most of it will take place off screen.
    • I'm suddenly fearful that DAYS is going to pull a Flowers-for-Algernon stunt and Bo's progress will be reversed.  While @te. is stuck on Abe's tiny bedroom, I can't stop thinking of the size of Bo's huge hospital room.
    • Okay, why are Paulina and Abe sleeping like that?!  I'd take a screen grab if I wasn't lazy, but come on.
    • All caught up on this week's episodes. Deidre Hall has done the best work of her career with this series of episodes. That is her tribute to Drake. Every acting choice has been perfect. From her reaction the moment John flatlined, to her snapping at Abe and Paulina (what a smart, realistic writing choice), to her grief playing the text message over and over. Josh Taylor did the best work of his career in the scene with Kayla telling him John had died. Everything about his facial expression, voice, pronunciation, everything was so different from what he usually does. He was overcome with the emotion of it and any of his acting tics disappeared. Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso were great. One thing I noticed with the flashbacks of John/Marlena and Bo/Hope is that Bo and Hope are constantly smiling at each other. The chemistry those two have cannot be faked. It's clear the writing team decided to clean up Bo and Hope and give fans a happy ending for them, neatly wrapped up in a bow. The juxtaposition of Bo and Hope reclaiming their happiness thanks to John, while Marlena is dealt life's harshest blow from John's sacrifice, was another great writing choice. Marlena even saying that to Eric, that she is paying for Bo's recovery with John's life, was such smart writing. Susan Seaforth Hayes was used very effectively between the two storylines. I really enjoyed the scene of Kate talking to Philip, calmly stating that she will make Xander pay. Overall, the show should be lining these episodes up for the Emmys and Deidre should be carefully choosing her scenes for her own reel. She deserves a Best Actress Emmy for this work. The first time I have felt that way about her work. Peter Reckell should submit himself for Guest for the scenes where he found out Victor is dead because he was genuinely heartbreaking. Josh Taylor should throw his name down for Supporting Actor for his scenes. The show deserves a Writing and Best Show for what they've done with the episodes around John and Bo. It was heavy stuff and I feel for the actors. I am so impressed with what they did.
