Now-a-days that has as much to do with our national obsession with our waist lines and smile lines that show we have a few years on us. If this card shows up in a reading, then that person is "possessed" with an unhealthy desire or expectation. And let's face it, 50 year-olds running around trying to look like they are 20 again are possessed by something. Back to Top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Are there any other scary Tarot cards? A few. Death (#8), the 3 of Swords, 7 of Cups, and the 10 of Swords come to mind. The "death" of something can be a very good thing. The types of situations where card number 8 may show up could include the end of a tough time, the trading of a dead-end job for something better, or getting out of a heart-wrenching relationship. The 3 of Swords, which go through a heart, usually show up when someone has been hurt in the past and is still licking their wounds or the person is courting trouble and needs to stop before they get hurt. The 7 of Cups, which looks spooky with all sorts of things bubbling up, shows up often when there are many choices or offers. It's up to the person asking the question to pick the correct one or walk away. The 10 of Swords, a guy who isn't going anywhere fast, often shows up when someone feels betrayed or when the odds are stacked against him/her. My Comment: After reading this, the devil card is clearly appropriate for Steve, but the Death card has no meaning at all in John's case.....or am I overlooking something.
December 30, 200619 yr Member And let's face it, 50 year-olds running around trying to look like they are 20 again are possessed by something. That's hilarious. But anyway, I never knew there were so many meanings. I always assumed, death card=death and so forth. Shows what Days and Passions have done as Tarot reading teachers
December 30, 200619 yr Member That's hilarious. But anyway, I never knew there were so many meanings. I always assumed, death card=death and so forth. Shows what Days and Passions have done as Tarot reading teachers I used to read Tarot and I can tell you the death card almost never means death. Most of the time it means an end of something and a new beginning. But in soaps it pretty much just means "death" *g* The short answer on the Devil card is that it usually represents being bound to something, usually materialistic things. But it can also symbolize being bound/addicted to drugs, alcohol, sex. In general it means that your own will is being subsumbed by something else. Someone on another board I'm on found this really good explanation of the Devil card: "The Devil represents the antithesis of good, the forces that strive to upset the harmonious order of existence. It is not simply being an individualist, or wanting his own way, thjat makes this being evil. ...The allegory here is not independent will, but of an intelligence that works to destroy for the sake of upsetting the divine balance. His purpose is to defeat Divine Law and return the world to a state of chaos. "...He may operate as a tempter, or he may command by fear, but either way his purpose is to offer irresistible inducements to stray from the true path (to become as close to the divine as possible.) ... The Devil seems to offer a way to achieve those purposes (spiritual/divine attainments) without any more waiting, or any further work. "The power offered is tremendous, but the price demanded is even greater. Never forget that you can achieve your goals without the Devil's help. In fact, the only reason he's interested in you is because your potential exceeds anything he can hope to achieve---unless he can stop you. "You are not being offered an easier way. The significance of the chained figures teaches that what you must surrender to take the power the Devil offers is your own free will."
December 30, 200619 yr Member Tarot cards are so interesting. And even though I really don't believe in them, I'd love to hear my reading
December 30, 200619 yr Member Steve's obviously under some type of influence, with brainwashing the most popular choice. As for John, I don't think John will die. I think the death card symbolizes the end of John and Marlena's normal life and the beginning of a whole new life that neither one is ready for (John possibly being brain dead).
