PSNS: Is ANOTHER Rape Really Necessary? (Dec. 06)

I am one of the few who has loved Passions this year, but I am sick and tired of watching all of these rapes. I barely tolerated Spike's rape attempt on Fancy 1 month ago, but now I doubt I can tolerate this Peeping Tom's rape attempt on her.

Bloody hell

This must be rape attempt or rape or flashback rape scene number 500 since JER began his Rape Overload in 2005.

Stop the madness, JER

Agreed.

Spike's attempted rape on Fancy really really bothered me. Especially after we'd tolerated so much in Jessica's story and alistair and now Julian. It's INSANE!

I am a relatively recent convert to Passions thanks to Simone's coming out. And I really have developed a fondness for the show and characters. But JER is out of his mind and totally insensitive to what he is writing.

I have insisted for years now that JER and Megan McRapes-a-lot are the yin and yang of Soap Opera Evil Genius. They should just get their own soap to Co-Head Write and could sit around a conference room table drinking themselves blind and thinking up new and different reasons to rape.

They'd make a great team! JER apparently likes to go for quantity of rapes and sexual attacks, Megan prefers holding down her fat thumb on the brutality/graphic/lesbian desexualizing scale. Megan prefers Very Special Episode Rapes and at least one predator in PV at all times. Write more rapes and make them unusually brutal...why I think those crazy kids are on to something. It'll be a smash!

This really drags Passions down as a show. And the worst of it is Passions is designed for a younger demo. It's sick. It's stupid. It's lazy. It's misogynist. NBC should care more about the product they're putting out...especially because Passions has something of value to offer (outside this issue, it's been better than AMC for most of the year, imo), a truly unique soap.

^The show had very few sexual attacks during its first 5 years. Then, it seems like JER went rape crazy.

The first two years of "Passions" were more PG rated. I know lots of little kids watched it because of Timmy. I remember promos actually saying "TV PG" so it was VERY tame back then. More pleasurable to watch, too. I think that was one of the reasons it was so special. It was like the wild, wacky soap that the whole family could watch together, lol. My family did.

Ok this crap has got to stop. The rest of the show has improved a bit (and I emphasize a bit) but that is typical because this show always is good in December and Janaury and then fades again. However, to put another women through this even if it isn't an actual rape is ridiculous. These past two years have been way too much. I don't know what JER is thinking but he is showing himself to be one sick person with all this stuff.

I would think with it being the holidays he would way off stuff like this at the very least

What I don't understand is this apparent need for JER to try to either desensitize or erotisize the act of rape on Passions. I don't watch the show, so I cannot speak to the context from the characters or storyline's P.O.V., but someone should at least tell him that this is not the way to go to bring viewers in.

I hope he listens, or the brass listens, because this could do more damamge to the show than has already been done.

I think it's exciting to watch women in danger, especially in sexual danger because it's so terrible. Nothing is worse than that. It's nice when they survive and escape, but the suspense is exciting too.

Rion...are you SURE you're not really JER himself?

Anyway, I just don't understand why I'm still watching this show, when all logic tells me to run for the hills.

I will rejoice when this show is off the air and this pig can keep his twisted concepts of entertainment to a shrink.

K..I don't feel why you need to express your wishes of cancellation. Think of the people who still love the show and their feelings. Wishing cancellation is like wishing for someone to die! It's evil!

I agree, Rion. Wishing for a soap's death, in the daytime community, no matter which death it is, would be classified as the gravest deadly sin.

That's your opinion and I respect it, but I find your assertion to be in the extreme. My wishing does not create the reality I hope for. My life would certainly be easier if that were the case. Furthermore, I wasn't adhering to a larger poulation when I commented. I was posting solely for myself; a former faithful who has seen the potential drain from Passions. It may as well be dead. If that makes me evil... I have more problems than I thought.

Let's get a grip people and stop giving fandoms a place on the altar of true tragedies.
