Back to the thread topic:

I'm a sucker for the great couples of the past. :)

Phoebe/Langley's romance and Myrtle knowing his real identity.

Chuck/Donna

Greg/Jenny

Cliff/Nina, especially when Palmer paid Steve Jacobi to seduce her.

Palmer/Daisy

Adam/Brooke

Adam/Liza

Tad/Liza/Marian

Mark/Ellen, especially when he hit rock bottom with his drug addiction and she was married to Ross, who was sleeping with his father's wife, Natalie.

Those were the definitely the good old days........

It deserves to be cancelled. If nobody is making an effort to turn this show around, which they clearly are not seeing as its been a pile of [!@#$%^&*] for 3 years straight now, then pulling the plug is probably a mercy killing.

I wouldn't do the gloom and doom thing yet. DAYS fans were almost 99.9% sure that DAYS was going to be cancelled and then look what happened. Besides how bad is AMC anyways??

Okay here's my two cents...well may be three....l'll start by saying I'm so much more a reader of the boards than a poster. I get too caught up in the drama... and angered by the negativity so now I just read.

I think we all agree AMC is in a bit of a slump. But any true soap fan has watched many many slumps over the years.....will watch them rise and slump again.....they are soap operas!!!!!

Imagine what it takes to tell new fresh relevant stories everyday for 40, 50, 60 years!! It cannot be easy.

It makes me sooo angry when people say they are going to stop watching because it's not at its greatest, and it infuriates me when people say a show should be cancelled for ANY reason!! We know the genre is WAY UNDER appreciated in the entertainment industry....we fans must never.

Soaps are unlike ANYTHING! In the gifts they give their viewer....what else can you spend a lifetime watching, gives you characters that become our life long friends, people we see more often than many of our extended family members stories that can shape our lives...nothing!

And if one (or more) of those life long "friends" leaves, be it the decision of the show or the actor...it's sad but you must take it as part of the history that makes up this wonderful genre. Mistake are made(TPTB) people(actors) want change.

I'm devastated by the loss of Julia Vincent Teri.... and I will write and call ABC/Disney as much as I can to let them know...which is what we should all do. Soap fans have lost their voice!!!! I think in part due to these boards...while they are a great way to reach other soap fans, they are a breeding ground for negativity. If all that energy, anger and time was devoted and pointed in the right way I think we could get what we want.

We are soap fans and we rival ANY fans of ANYTHING in the world. We must NEVER be fair-weather fans!!! If you stop watching because things get slow or set dates that you will stop watching by if things are not "fixed" you were never a TRUE FAN you were somebody that watched the show! I would watch AMC if it was an hour of Erica looking out a window silently.....heck I'd watch if it was ?? I don't know ...Annie, anybody!! My point is I will never stop watching!!!

Imagine your horrible doom prediction happened, (really to any soap) and it's replaced by some new reality show format or new talk show or something and it TEMPORARILY does well. You thing the other networks would be far behind in cutting their soaps??? I don't! I truly think in today's entertainment world the end of just ONE more soap could be the undoing of them all!

Then where would we be?.....on these boards??? saying remember the soaps?? How great were they I really miss them!...now we get to watch the girl on (insert new talk show) who is afraid of light bulbs or does not know who the father of her baby is...or the boy that lives off bugs on (insert new reality show)??? I do not want to see this day do you????

So SUPPORT your soap.....they ALL need it!

Wow, that is a great rant. You've made me re-examine my feelings towards the soaps I love -- or used to love.

And while I agree with a lot of what you say, I also have to defend my view of a show like AMC which I can't really sit and watch from end-to-end any more. I think most people on this board, from what I have read, can differentiate between constructive criticism of their beloved show(s) and a cesspool of negative nastiness. I have been on boards where a cesspool developed and enveloped the entire board, unfortunately. SON is not one of those places, mainly because of people such as yourself -- and the other people in this thread who are disillusioned with ABC's "management" of AMC.

It's called Balance -- and that is exactly what is lacking from AMC today. If some criticize the show, are depressed about its direction (which is heading steadily downward, IMO), it's because, as discerning AMC fans, they want more, they want BETTER.

Day to day, you can't write perfection 100% of the time. But you can look for new ideas to reinvigorate certain characters, SLs. If we at home can do it, why not the groups of writers and consultants in the soap biz whose job it is to do so?

I love your post and thought you were right on with regards to so many things, so please don't take what I just wrote as a poster bash. Just another way of looking at the other side of the opinion divide. :)

I watched AMC for the better part of my life. It was my favorite soap through all of these years. Pine Valley was my TV home but NO MORE and as long as the same people remain at the helm I will say NEVER AGAIN. I've sat and watched SLs play out that I didn't like, SLs that bored me, angered me, disappointed me and made me want to cry but what is going on now is an INSULT to the fans that had in fact buttered their bread for decades.

They served me garbage and I left it on the plate. They insist I eat it. I insisted that they take it back and bring me something edible. They asked me to leave and now I've gone to another restaurant.

I'm quite happy at DOOL thank you. For the first time in my life I have crossed to another network. I'm no longer a lapsed viewer I'm a PAST viewer. I've moved past AMC and I've had better DAYS because of my decision.

"They can serve me sour milk but I'm not the !@#$%^&*] to drink it."

One thing you should keep in mind, when I stopped watching AMC I stopped watching OLTL. Why? No real reason other than it isn't worth the time to switch the channel.

I love this post - I pretty much agree with what you say.

Also, if any ABC show were to be cancelled, OLTL will go first. AMC won't go before OLTL. Pretty much because of Erica Kane and it is more well-known than OLTL. OLTL has Viki Lord, but they rarely use her, so they'll definitely cancel them first.

Now I loved:

Janet/Natalie - Janet throws Natalie down in the well!

Hayley/Mateo - Their romance in summer of 1995...then Arlene and Alec stuff.

Julia/Noah - I know most didn't like this, but I loved their run in Jamaica.

Tad/Dixie - everything about this couple - when they found each other in 1993 especially.

Kevin Sheffield/Michael Delany - I loved the whole WRCW, Sheffield's, Laurel Banning being shot, etc etc.

Angelique Marick - Helga wheeling her in and surprising everyone at Dimitri/Natalie's wedding party.

I don't think it will be cancelled, I just think it needs a change, desperately.

Frons has admitted he's a huge GH and OLTL fan.

As much as OLTL sucks right now, even IT has more focus than AMC. That can't be ignored.

AMC WILL be the first to go.

OLTL isn't the bastard child of ABC anymore. Frons watched it for years. He did not watch a single minute of AMC until he took over.

Thank you original poster for telling it like it is.

Honestly I think some are over dramatizing this. If Days can make it through the train wreck it that was a little as a year ago, then ANY soap can make it.

I don't think any soap deserves to be cancelled. Think of it this way, if that was your favorite soap, you wouldn't be wanting people to wish cancellation on it if it deserves it or not.

I think changes need to be made and soon, but I do believe that AMC and any soap is salvageable.

It needs tons of changes from what I hear from the fans on the board. If DAYS can come from the bottom of the barrel, not once, but twice, and change into a soap that for the most part is watchable again, AMC can too. Unfortunately, you guys have an EP who has an ego and an attitude of all the other EP's combined and unless he's gone and ABC does a complete overhaul of their shows, it will probably get worse.

Oh, and I liked the early Tad and Dixie stuff in the 80s, when he tried to get her away from Adam. Now that was love. :)

I 100% agree...thanks for saying it.
