SOW's Hit or Miss/AMC

SOW's new issue (9/19) gives AMC a MISS in their Hit or Miss column and I think most of us would agree with this and could add a few dozen other things to it:

SOW/ Hit or Miss Column

MISS..AMC's License to Ill

With its vertigo-inducing images, corruption of beloved veterans, and emphasis on child molestation, vapid teens, and a stranger's death, All My Children is making people sick. Figuratively and literally.

The first time the shaky camera technique was used, at the opening of Confusion,it was a terrific novelty that made the viewer part of the bustling crowd. Sadly, the manic technique was not preserved for special occassions. It was displayed for entire episodes-apparently in an attempt to spice up the visual impact of two characters having a conversation. This diluted its uniqueness and made even a mother/son chat a headache-inducing bout with motion-sickness. Too bad AMC doesn't shill Dramamine.

But the bouncy screen wasn't the only thing making viewers feel queasy. Watching the slimy Terry manipulate the impressionable Lily has also been sickening. Must viewers follow every step of his stalking? Sadly, Terry wasn't doing anything Lily's husband , serial killer Jonathan, hasn't been doing to her. He has also been lying about who he is and what he wants.

Accomodating Jonathan has prompted AMC to tear down former hero Jackson. He had been the personification of grace and understanding with regard to Lily's developmental problem, and while it is laudable that he wants to protect his daughter from a serial killer, it is completely out of character for him to exploit her condition to do it. He would never turn his beloved daughter's disability against her.

Maybe Jack has been distracted by all the "Who Killed Greg Madden?" hoopla. Lily is maybe the only person in town who hasn't been accused of burying the monster. Any time one character gets on another's nerves it's followed by, "You buried Greg Madden" (Say, can Myrtle account for her whereeabouts that night?) Only Zach and Dixie have been formally charged, as Cady McClain's (Dixie) return continues to limp along with no purpose. As for the late, not great, Greg, why give so much airtime to a stranger?

Guess ciphers are "in" at AMC. Consider this summer's teen scene, larded with youthful hardbodies, and unknown faces. Are we really supposed to care about the conflict between blonde hottie Colby and blonde hottie Sydney? Shouldn't Colby be starting second grade this fall? Fans were told that scruffy Sean is related to Jack, but wouldn't everyone rather have seen Reggie get a story? Instead, Reggie was let go.

AMC needs a lot more than it's cameras shaken up in order to return to some semblance of its former better self..JD

Truer words have never been written. I'm in total agreement.

It's so painful to see AMC like this.

Everything needs to change. There needs to be a big shakeup. The show better be fixed soon before things get really dire - like GL passing it. I fear we might see a 2.2 next week.
