It would be a disaster for the Tories and the UK but then look at May. Johnson has been incompetent as Foreign Secretary and none of these folks had a clue as to what to do when Brexit passed, Johnson being first in the line of idiots. I'd say go ahead and pick him, let him try to build a coalition to get things done, negotiate the deal with the EU. He's incapable of doing either. God knows I am no Corbyn fan, but all Labour has to do is sit back and watch the "[!@#$%^&*]" show with Johnson as PM. It was bad enough with May who's political career will likely be over after this disaster. Much like Cameron's was. But the people in the UK don't deserve this. Well most of them don't.

You know I have been trying to be positive in terms of the democrats nationally. Locally people are energized and local races have been successful here. Statewide it's likely Illinois is going to go back all blue next year, but I am extremely disappointed in the route the national party has taken. Or not taken. Maybe I am expecting too much, but why are they wasting time on "Unity Tours" and not working on messaging. Ossoff's debate performance by the way was fantastic. Whether it matters or not who knows. But the Kansas experiment, how the state elected real moderate GOPers to overturn the Brownbeck agenda, should be hammered time and time again. And I feel the national party is too busy trying to unite people who don't care about this crap versus working on their messaging.

So there is no Saudi arms deal. I knew a lot of this was started under Obama but this administration apparently did nothing to push anything forward. Not that I am crying because the last thing we need is to do this, but these fools can't stop taking credit for things they are not even doing. https://www.brookings.edu/blog/markaz/2017/06/05/the-110-billion-arms-deal-to-saudi-arabia-is-fake-news/ It's amazing how nothing this administration has done. Privatizing air traffic controllers. Something again the PRESIDENT cannot do and no one in congress even has any appetite for doing it. And tell me those rust belt workers are screaming for this.- The Politics Thread
The state senate just passed it. They are pushing for it in California. In fact Newsom has made this a key part of his campaign- The Politics Thread
Did u notice also not one word about the White House under Bush ordering the purging and deletion of 22 million emails housed on a private server THEY USED during Bush's presidency but we are crying about the loss of a few devices? It's interesting that they don't seem to give a crap about any of the contents in those 22 million emails from an administration that lied us into a war, faked intelligence and made Colin Powell the fool using it to testify in front of the UN(probably why he left the office after one term). It's interesting how they cry about the loss of 4 lives in Benghazi(tragic yes criminal - well only by congress who cut security funding for them) while not seeming to care about the 4,000 American Lives lost in Iraq, the 69 killed in Embassy attacks under Bush, the millions of innocents killed in the middle east as a result of the Iraq war which led to instability to this date in that entire region, has contributed to the refugee crisis that has caused many to flee those areas in fear for their lives and they are still hunted by westerners. Sounds a lot like the Jews in the 1930's to me. But they are PATRIOTS. Extremism comes in all religions and with all people. None of the countries on the ban have contributed to one terrorist attack. Even iran who is alleged to be our mortal enemy. 80% of the terrorist attacks in the past 10 years have been committed by citizens/residents in all these countries. The FBI said a few years ago the biggest terrorist danger is the lone wolf. Hasn't that been proven? So why are we banning people and not doing something about the communities here. And that includes by the way white males, who have committed more violence have killed more people in the name of right and left wing extremism in this country than any muslim. And you never hear about them because they are white and the news media partially panders to them. OOH and on another note Just so we all know white male extremists exist even in Russia for those people who think Russia is paradise. Let's see how long it takes Trump to comment about his terrorist attack. Drunk white man in Russia shoots 9 people "because he can".- The Politics Thread
Let them troll. I started laughing when I started reading about Hillary for the umpteenth time. Because guess what they have - nothing else. 57 straight days of a front page story on the NY Times about the Clinton Foundation that amounted to - let's all say it "crickets" while not one dime of Trumps foundation went to anything charitable. THEY DON;T CARE about breaking the law unless it's Hillary Clinton. They don't even care that a foreign power - an enemy - has influence over us, that Mr. I am getting rid of ISIS in 30 days, has done nothing but a failed travel ban that isn't a travel ban except he just again said it in a tweet yesterday(the ACLU thanked him for admitting it in writing), that they actually brokered the sale) of the biggest arms deal to Saudi Arabia(where both ISIS and Al Qaeda both started) and are still screaming "evil muslims" while we arm ISIS's funders.(and no I do NOT agree with past administrations on SA either). And this nonsense about executive privilege. Do these people watch anything other than Fox News or read Breitbart? Nixon tried that with the tapes and do any of these people remember what SCOTUS ruled on that? They are all such great historians they should know the answer. Oh and there is no privilege because the genius in the White House already - 1. blabbed on national TV with Lester Holt the contents of the part of his discussion with Comey(translation - he blabbed to millions of people already, Comey didn't. That abolishes privilege), 2. he indicated he possibly taped the conversation(I'd love to thank him for that because that abolishes privilege also), oh and 3. the letter which was made public (you know the one where he claimed Comey told him he was not being investigated 3 times) bam that also disallows EP. The idiot and apparently even his own lawyer don't know what that you can't share contents of a conversation and claim EP. I'm going to also enjoy Mueller possibly going to SCOTUS and asking for the tapes. I don't know what would be more humiliating for him the fact that they don't exist and he has to admit it or the fact that they do and he has to release them.- The Politics Thread
None of these people cared that the Bush white house used a private server and deleted 22 million emails. Can you imagine the dirt that was there considering the illegal Iraq war. Cheney at a minimum would likely have ended up in prison and several in that admin convicted of war crimes. It's amazing that not one of these so called patriots give a damn about the fact that Trump and his entire dirty family owe the Russian mob and China tons of money, tried to remove sanctions placed on the Russians for tampering with our election as soon as they took office, or even care it happened. These people are only patriots when it's a democrat that allegedly does something bad. They are willing to sell out our country to the highest bidder as long as Trump and Paul Ryan and their cronies are all in with it. They don't care about democracy or our constitution. I have no doubt they'd have a problem selling any of us out.- The Politics Thread
Maher IMO is the stereotypical "Ugly Liberal". All condescending and smug. He's like the democratic version of Donald Trump. All the worst of the extreme elements of the party. And while I might concur with some of his points about the Islamic faith, it's really more about western society needing to do more to support and endorse the more moderate elements of Islam around the world who do speak out and support them rather than endlessly chastising the extremists while recognizing how the west has actually fueled a lot of this extremism. He also never ever talks about the recent extremism in this country and how that extremism seems to be centered around white men. Rebecca Traister bless her heart tried on his show last night but of course as usual he shut that voice down- The Politics Thread

Who knew Governors were not part of the government. What they and likely other states and the 60 mayors in this country who were part of the accords and committed to renewable energy and lowering CO2 is showing the world that `most Americans are not dumbfuck Trump and the members of the GOP at the national level. Most of these states and cities have already been doing it. No one has relied on the federal level but what genius has now done is potentially jeopardize investment and jobs here. You know the big JOBS GUY. Even our dumbass GOP Governor in Illinois has slammed Trump because the state has potential business and jobs reliant on foreign investors from India to covert the state buildings and offices to renewable energy by 2027(along with Chicago's commitment to 2025). This [!@#$%^&*] move jeopardizes that investment and those jobs. Which is why state and local leadership in this country now has to do what he is too stupid to do. SHOW LEADERSHIP. This is science. Science is fact it's not conservative or liberal. Well it never was until the GOP branded themselves as the party of GOD. And the PENATGON you know the center of our military you so called CONSERVATIVES claim to respect have been saying for the past 10 years that Climate Change is the greatest threat to our national security. Now one would think so called CONSERVATIVES and their fearless leader would care about national security. Or let me guess, the Pentagon is just making it up. Coal and fossil fuels no matter how much you folks believe it will, ain't coming back. Natural Gas, Solar, Wind are all cleaner and most importantly to you who CLAIM to be conservatives, cheaper. States like Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Indiana have already converted to wind and solar and natural gas 100%. And those 60 cities and blue states likely account for probably 80% of the GDP in this country. So you should thank someone that there are still some smart people in government who see why this is important. And this will be my final post to you. You go on ignore now- The Politics Thread
Good to see you back. I agree with a lot of this. Also the issue with the GOP and probably why Chaffetz is leaving is they had nothing planned for 2017 because they expected her to win and would have spent the next 4 years on more investigations and hearings, accomplishing nothing, and probably voting to overturn Obamacare another 400 times.. That's all they are good at anymore. Doing nothing. I wish they'd just continue that for the next 2 to 4 years.- The Politics Thread
Of course not so the rest of us have to suffer with a GOP that no longer is about anything other than white male mediocrity. They have zero policies and believe in nothing anymore other than power. What Eisenhower predicted in his exit speech in 1961 for the GOP is exactly what has happened. Eisenhower was the last time the party had an ounce of integrity or hint of progressivism.(he changes this country through building the federal hwy system and led school desegregation). Even Nixon wanted Universal Healthcare and founded the EPA and went to China opening that up- The Politics Thread
The Electoral College was created for exactly what we are seeing now. The founding fathers didn't trust the average citizen to not pick a dictator, demagogue, moron, idiot, mentally ill person and here we have one person fitting all those descriptions, so the EC as a way to overrule that if it happened, failed. They were meant to be non partisan educated appointees who could be relied on to use their judgement to over turn a disastrous choice. So the purpose of the EC failed in this election. Since it no longer serves that purpose, it should be gone(as it should have years ago seeing the members are partisan hacks). I thought the Pittsburgh reference a dumb one because that is a prime example of a city dependent on the steel industry that reinvented themselves. And there was a reason they were selected for the G-20 summit several years back.- The Politics Thread
The accords themselves are not binding or enforceable, yet it was an important example of unity across the world and if as the leader we could have helped set the bar even better. My guess is we will still achieve many of those goals agreement or not. What we may lose are foreign investors willing to put up equity here. And China as a leader is IMO not a bad thing. They have to do it - no choice as does India. And now is the time for states to take the leadership here and set the example for the country. Some already have and most major cities have committed to renewable energy. Chicago public buildings will be run on 100% renewable energy by 2025. And none of this addressed the fracking industry and technology which has been so damaging.- The Politics Thread
This is the Hillary I always loved. The one who didn't give a crap about how she said something. And with all those weak whiney white pundits on twitter again coming after her today, I say keep going guys. They just show their weak asses. Josh Barro has got to be the worst and needs treatment for Hillary Clinton derangement syndrome. http://money.cnn.com/2017/05/31/news/companies/gm-layoffs/index.html How those jobs coming Orange Julius- The Politics Thread
We've had several crappy presidents. Buchanan, Hoover, Harding to name a few. I would also include Jackson the king of genocide although certain factions in this country have him on a pedestal- The Politics Thread
If he actually does than the left/moderates fight back with what will change peoples minds, like we already have been. MONEY. I was wavering on when to get a new car and think I am going to bite the bullet and finally invest in that hybrid I want. I actually am very much about supporting American made products but in this case I may look again at the VW Volkswagen Hybrid. Yeah I know those are made in Mexico not Germany, but even the better. And while auto sales I assume are still down and we have dealers willing to cut prices to unload a few 2017 cars still in stock.- The Politics Thread
I actually don't disagree with what he's saying and I am glad he acknowledges that you don't have to be all economics or all progressive values, you can espouse and message on both, and I agree that still the messaging is terrible for the party itself. But I guess the struggle in individual races I don't see. I think Ossoff is doing well in Georgia because he is focusing on those issues that his district supports(note that Universal Health Care is not a major selling point there). I think the same thing applied to Thompson to a lessor degree in Kansas. And while I think the coalation that Obama started is the way to go, I wonder why the party can't come up with a list of 5 basic tenets that resonate with voters. Lord hire a good marketing company and do it. And stop trying to appeal to peoples heads and go for their hearts and make it simple. I hate to say dumb it down but dumb it down. And someday a terrorist group is going to get a nuke once everyone has them and then we are done for.- The Politics Thread
I'm not adverse to a better balance and allowing the Europeans to have more say. But you can back off a bit and allow them to exert more influence while still being an active NATO member and one of the leaders. But that isn't the strategy our power mongers are deploying here IMO, if there is one in fact.- The Politics Thread
I have now lost all respect for Nina Turner. I made the mistake of listening to her on SOTU on CNN this AM. She's blaming the DNC for Quist's loss in Montana. And talked about the dems continuing to lose due to Russia Ok I actually phone banked for Quist 2 weekends and none of these local, state, or even house races are about Russia. Quist ran on universal healthcare, he is pro-gun, protecting public lands, pro choice, free college, increased min wage. Those are the things he campaigned on it Montana. Plus Montana very much likes their own. He turned down a visit from Perez, embraced Sanders who was there for rallys before the vote, the DCC did give him about 500k, and he raised 6 million on his own. The large amounts Gianforte got was through super pacs who ran the negative ads(Quist had a lot of negative ads on Gianforte by the way). Here's the thing - a progressive in Montana is not like a progressive in Vermont. I phonebanked and a lot of dems I talked to liked and supported. But there were also quite a few who felt he was a socialist, didn't buy into free college or Universal Health Care. I actually had one women tell me she supported those things but that the messaging on them screams socialism and socialism doesn't play well in a red state. So rather than blaming people, can we stop it and start improving the messaging so it resonates in some of these more moderate areas. Montana has elected democrats. They have a democratic Governor who beat Gianforte despite all his money and a democratic senator. And for the all Russia all the time. Do the Turner's realize that keeping the narrative in Washington on this is preventing Trump from getting any legislation through. And the grassroots organizers are helping to hamper the healthcare plan. I swear with grassroots wins in places like Illinois, New York, Delaware, Connecticut you'd think people were just doing more than just Russia wouldn't you?- The Politics Thread
It's only been just over 100 days. I think those things need to kick in first before the impact is felt. We are already seeing signs of lower consumer spending, travel industry hit hard, Trump now ok'ing importing citrus from South America, undermining the citrus farmers in this country. All is going to take it's toll. And Trump now owns healthcare so if his undermining of O-Care leads to increased premiums, that will be on him. Ford and GM both cutting jobs(despite the "great" job growth). Ultimately this desire to be isolationists(unless you are a big company who wants to make things overseas) is going to take its toll. The countries that import American made goods are all those that Trump and company have snubbed. I don't believe Russia, the Saudi's, and the Philippines are huge US importers- The Politics Thread
