  1. Oh and that's perfectly fine. My own representative Gutierrez is catholic and pro-life personally but as a representative is pro-choice. He has made that distinction many times. You are there so I will trust you on it. I think the issue became heated due to a. Sanders comments about Ossoff not being progressive enough, even though he admittedly knows very little of him and b. that Mello allegedly co-sponsored a bill back in 2009 that would have required women having and viewing an ultrasound before having an abortion. Perhaps that later item got skewed and has been portrayed in the media differently than what actually transpired.
  2. http://shareblue.com/actual-paid-protestors-found-in-arizona-and-they-work-for-the-gop/ So Trump was correct about there being paid protesters. They work for the GOP.
  3. For me the most infuriating part is the purity tests he and his followers expect yet when it comes to issues like reproductive rights, which IS a top 3 economic issue for women, it seems to be acceptable because we should open our arms up to people who don't believe in everything we do. Doesn't that go both ways? And since when is the district Ossoff is running in some bastion for democrats? I concede that a mayoral election is maybe not as important, but it is because that's where grassroots efforts start isn't it? But I did read an interesting Op-Ed yesterday written by Linda Tirado which compared 2nd amendment rights importance to the GOP to the importance of reproductive rights to the Democratic party. It's the expectation and pseudo litmus test.
  4. This is infuriating and even moreso because Bernie and his followers barely see this as an issue and he's out on a PR tour allegedly for democrats. I read the article in the times the other day. I get that it's interesting insight but in some ways I see Haberman a lot like Judith Miller. Enabling due to access and leaks.
  5. All it does is allow the rehashing of the same stuff from the election. If people want to move on, that means from Bernie also. If he were participating in good faith we wouldn't get this kind of crap from him.
  6. Ugh Bernie Sanders needs to go away There is a fairly deep bench of younger democrats but if this guy doesn't get sidelined there will never be a chance to see them. https://www.wsj.com/articles/democrats-reload-for-georgia-runoff-but-party-divisions-remain-1492626238?tesla=y "Bernie Sanders says he doesn't know if Jon Ossoff is a progressive."
  7. Yep and more layoffs or perhaps early retirements coming this year Also in retail http://www.businessinsider.com/retail-job-losses-are-hurting-the-economy-2017-4 "Like coal miners, retail workers don't typically have a set of skills that's easily transferable to another industry, according to Cohen. The retail industry, which employs about one out of every 10 American workers, typically pays low wages but provides employment to people in every age bracket, as well as those who are low-skilled and need flexible scheduling options."
  8. I am honestly shocked. But I guess the power of money talks. Fox lost over 100 advertisers from what I understand including Monsanto, which is one I never expected. I am sure here is a job waiting for him either at CNN or in the current administration.
  9. It would not shock me to see CNN hire him. Zucker has no scruples
  10. I am not sure what anyone is taking credit for. Ossoff won almost 49% of the vote. In that district. He was polling around 45 the day before. I know people want every win but really Democrats need to temper a bit. Most were predicting he wasn't going to get over 50% yesterday. As for the GOP, combined their percentage was 47% I believe. So Chaffetz is not running for re-election. He's either going to try for Hatch's seat or Governor I'll bet. https://www.buzzfeed.com/alexislevinson/utah-congressman-jason-chaffetz-will-not-seek-re-election?utm_term=.ygQ2qNnR0y#.hv53QxVM7D
  11. I don't know if anyone has read about the new book on Clinton's campaign but the NYT has a recap of it https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/17/books/shattered-charts-hillary-clintons-course-into-the-iceberg.html?_r=0 "As described in “Shattered,” Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook — who centered the Clinton operation on data analytics (information about voters, given to him by number crunchers) as opposed to more old-fashioned methods of polling, knocking on doors and trying to persuade undecideds — made one strategic mistake after another, but was kept on by Clinton, despite her own misgivings." I find this stmt interesting because Clinton was pretty much lauded for her ground game, or at least I thought she was, and the data analytic team was the same one Obama was praised for during his 2 campaigns.
  12. Didn't mean to sound condescending. I just had my neighbor a couple of weeks ago whose daughter is in fifth grade, working hard to improve her math skills, get told by the teacher(a 30 year old woman) that she shouldn't worry too much about it since girls don't have a natural math aptitude anyway . I've been working with her and needless to say my neighbor went to the school to have a long talk with the teacher. Fact is the teacher herself is not confident in her own math skills to be teaching it in grade school and told the mother that. It's interesting that when I was consulting at my last tech consulting employer, D&T, the triage team we had who went out to clients to help them put out fires were 75% women. Women are better problem solvers, seem to have a knack at getting to the center of a problem, and also were far better at keeping clients calm as well as providing reasonable temporary workarounds to immediate problems while working on solving the core problem. I'm also interested what happens to the H2B Visa's that Trump himself uses to hire people at his resorts, to work on construction projects he has had in the past, and if he will pass the whole "America First" mantra onto his own businesses. Including bringing his mftg facilities back here.
  13. As someone who worked and still works in the technology industry occasionally(I work on STEM curriculum and programs for girls now in the education field) this is still a huge problem. But much of it still lies at our educational system which still does a very poor job of encouraging girls to pursue science, engineering, mathematics, and technology degrees. The old stereotypes still exist. It doesn't help that the technology industry in particular treats women poorly IMO. I had my own challenges throughout my career but I think ultimately succeeded where many others got discouraged and turned away. But this is not just about lack of skills, it's about cheaper labor. I have worked with a lot of Indian and Asian tech workers(all great by the way). The Asians had an interest in coming here and building a life here while many of the Indian folks came here to earn money to send home and ultimately move back. I have no issue with either other than seeing American workers displaced for cheaper labor. It's not so much sexism or misogyny, its the desire for many in the industry try to use H1B talent to turn the industry from white collar to blue collar. And don't think this is not their objective. And the gvmt just increases the H1B quotas each year due to the "alleged" lack of talent. Yeah and that's why all those Disney tech workers got axed last year and replaced with H1B's.
  14. All of this backpeddling on NATO, on EVUL China the currency manipulator, the tougher stance on Russia(well not really) - I'll say tough talk tells me Bannon is out. No way is any of this stuff coming from him.
  15. Thompson is a great candidate and frankly as red as part of southern Illinois is I think he could have won easily in the southern most district here. I frankly think its amazing what he was able to pull off in 3 months. ANd it's all him and his organization. I honestly think in Kansas in particular with the Brownback legacy that is likely going to follow many in the long run. Thompson not getting any support at the national level from the @DCCC and money from the party probably helped him. His campaign was 100% grassroots and with a better funded organization he most likely will do better in 2018. But I think rather than him winning, its a lesson for some of the closer red districts out there and who and what type of candidate can win. Thompson was modeled as a progressive but he's also pro gun and a good Christian, things that resonate more with folks in those states.Plus ex-military. A lot like Kander in some ways. I have been following Thompson for his entire 2 1/2 to 3 months and the progress his campaign made in that timeframe is amazing. If the democrats want to win, they need to look at some of what his campaign has done. There is a better shot in GA and this election actually makes me more certain Ossoff is going to win and probably easily for the reason(s) you stated.
  16. Well I guess the Alt-Righters will be pleased with that comment. Seriously Holocaust Centers? You mean death camps Sean.
  17. How about some positive news for a change. In Oklahoma folks. http://www.lagrangepark.org/index.asp?SEC=99BAF391-1D3E-49D7-89A3-97B73B5FC215&DE=AB48406F-32CF-4846-ABAE-ADD2CEF818D7&Type=B_PR
  18. You know I love Obama but his foreign policy and intervention decisions left me furious. And Clinton's hawkishness was never something I admired her for. But I have to respect Obama a bit more after this and how he finally bowed out of bombing Syria in 2013(even though congress didn't authorize) due to lack of support from allies and perhaps his own questioning as to whether it was right. He had to be under intense pressure from his foreign policy advisors to bomb. I'm always for the humanitarian path and when Syria first started deteriorating, humanitarian action IMO is as far as we should have gone. Helping to create safe zones and havens, even allowing more refugees here would have been a far more charitable and productive effort than arming resistance fighters particularly because they own agendas were toxic. The conflicts in the middle east are too complex to get in the middle of IMO. It's why I still laugh when I hear Dick Cheney spewing nonsense about how we would be welcomed as liberators in Iraq. Spoken out of pure ignorance. People seem to believe we will be welcomed as liberators as we were in Europe after WW2.
  19. There are issues I have with Rather but he also comes from a time(perhaps the end and transition from) when the media was actually a trusted source. Sure he had his own issues and he won't ever be "the most trusted person in America" as Cronkite was proclaimed, but he comes from an era when the media mattered and were generally fair and impartial. Issues aside, I will always respect what he did in Vietnam and how he was a key in helping to change American sentiment simply by being on the ground with troops there and exposing the fact it's not nor ever has been a glamour affair, something Americans have lost sight of it seems. I'm glad he can see it even if many in our media are too busy fawning and trying to win favor. He also was a big thorn in Nixon's side as Watergate unfolded, Nixon referring to Rather as an enemy of America, citing his work in Vietnam as the rational. I have a close family member who was killed in action in Vietnam and joined the marines after high school because his father lauded it. His dad(my great uncle) never got over feeling the weight of responsibility for his son's death(he could have gone to college on a baseball scholarship but instead chose the marines because of his dad). It ate at him for the rest of his life. He became a stanch opponent to Vietnam and the US involvement in further military actions after his son's death.
  20. All this has done and all the intention was was to get people to stop focusing on RussiaGate. But the media will always be complicit. Explain why human rights experts are happy? Have we suddenly decided to help create safe zones for the Syrian people, send aid and help, allow them refuge in the US. These are the things we actually could do to help the babies there. And where was all this horror in 2013 when thousands were hurt and killed from chemical weapons and Obama went to congress who said no. As far as I am concerned they are all hypocrites. I read Mark Landler's op-ed in the Times yesterday and it was sickening talking about how Trump finally has a heart? It had to be the most dishonest fawning pieces in the times in ages and that says a lot about the times who have been complicit in many a war. I have my issues with Rather but his work during the Vietnam war, bringing the real horrors of war to the screen had a lot to do with the repulsion to war more people gained during that time. Pictures of victims of gassing is awful and these people should be protected and not subjected to it. But there are more humanitarian acts we could take that could be a lot better. Sad that the MSM doesn't care about the 20 million people starving to death in Somalia and Yemen thanks to us.
  21. I am in no way a Greenwald fan and he always has a desire to blaming dems. I don't agree with that nor do I think this in any way impacts TrumpRussia where he thinks somehow it proves the election hacking findings wrong. I just have no penchant for war at all or for a media and press so enamored with a leader who decides to bomb. it took more guts for Obama to pull back from bombing Syria(remember he still planned on doing it despite congress not authorizing) than sending a bombing order. Americans seem to think us bombing another country is not war and I feel even hesitate in referring to places where we have ground troops as in Iraq as war. it's like since it doesn't happen on our soil, we don't care.
  22. I have no love for Greenwald and The Intercept but this is a decent article by Greenwald. https://theintercept.com/2017/04/07/the-spoils-of-war-trump-lavished-with-media-and-bipartisan-praise-for-bombing-syria/ Maybe I am biased because whether it's Bush, Obama, Clinton, Bush1, I hate our affinity for bombing and/or invading countries. I also think drones are chicken [!@#$%^&*] because it alleviates the US having to experience the horrors of bombing, This one is especially awful as the MSM and press wets their pants over bombing praising Trump while those victimized are not even allowed refuge from the war in this country. And on a side note why the hell does Brian Williams still have a job. Sick [!@#$%^&*] .
  23. Gorsuch is not more moderate than Scalia. He's in line or even to the right of him I said long ago filibuster. You folks seem to believe the democrats are working with people who they can have faith in to keep their word. What good would agreeing to this do. We'd get Gorsuch in anyway and the GOP would break it on the next nominee and don't think for a second the next one would be more moderate. And the nuclear option on legislation is next. The GOP will execute this as soon as the democrats threaten to filibuster one. We aren't dealing with people who want what's best for this country, people who swore that they would leave the seat open if Clinton got elected and not vote on any of her judges. Do people remember WHY Reid executed the nuclear option on lower court apts? Because the GOP filibustered 80 straight nominees by Obama. Not the first one, 80. But what Reid refused to do was to use that for the Supreme Court position seeing the importance of it.
