The democratic panic is really off the charts at this point and sitting back and interpreting every lead as some magic sauce by the GOP is really over the top. Am I concerned yes and no. But how does it help feeding panic time and time again. I laughed actually when Musk tweeted based on early vote totals in New Jersey, that it's going red. I understand the anxiety. I am anxious but these folks all over social media and elsewhere should follow Michelle Obama's advice and DO SOMETHING. She is. She was just in Georgia. Not for Harris, but for her organization's non partisan GOTV effort.

So Nicky Jam has renounced his support of Trump because of the Puerto Rican issue. He posted an instagram message to his 43 plus million followers Nicky jam (@nickyjam) • Instagram photos and videos Why he believed Trump was better for the economy is beyond me. One risk with these celebs is that many of them are just as misinformed as the rest.

Between the celebrities, that clip went out to 450 million instagram followers. If only .1% of them are of Puerto Rican heritage, that's 450,000 people.

It was inevitable. The industry is dying and believing the billionaires would really help save it was our own fault(not us personally). People need to remember what Hearst did with his newspapers and how many years ago was that. The Chicago Sun Times was bought up by a mixture of people in the industry who still believe in journalism. It's still around and does good reporting, but sadly it's still only a matter of time. Support INDEPENDENT JOURNALISM. I rewatched that film by the way several months back after it being years since I have seen it. Maybe because I remember actual landline telephones, but there is a scene in that film with Redford/Woodward - on the phone and getting transferred, calling diff people, etc that is really compelling. You have to watch it in the context of the film and story to understand why. But it hit me when I was watching it.

Israel, Gaza, and Palestine
Some of you might think this belongs in the politics thread, but there is a reason I am posting this here. I don't normally read Newsweek - it's kind of trash now - but I found this really compelling Donald Trump Is a Clear and Present Danger to American Jews | Opinion - Newsweek This comment I found quite interesting "Even the best of friends question each other. The people of Israel themselves are so deeply divided over everything that when I visited over the summer there was talk of a civil war." For those who know more about Israel than I do and the Jewish culture here and perhaps in Israel, I want to understand what's happening in Israeli society. I follow a blog and in discussions about the Gaza, a secular Jewish person made a post sometime back about the divisions in Israeli society itself and some of the more conservative Israeli Jewish citizens refer to their own citizenry, the secular Jews as Kapos. We all know where that comes from. But does it explain why Israeli has taken such a radical right turn? Or has the radical right really gained that much influence over Israeli society or at least seem to? And I also know the birth rates of more the more conservative Jews there has increased while in the more secular Jewish population, it has dropped.

Yep Here is the thing also. If things are going so well for Trump? 1. Why the red wave polls? 2. Why the election rigging narrative 3. Why the rigging of the market betting indicator like Polymarket, which by the way, no one in the US can use. Campaigns confident they are winning don't have to do this. That clip you posts from PBS about social media says it all. Letting social media put people into a panic when it's really only the extremes that are there constantly and their voices amplified. Anyone who is there should disconnect for their own mental health or narrow your view of what's there, which you can't do completely anymore.

We should be used to this. Many men are always dismissing us, whether it's the dismissal of our own rights, to thinking we are a bunch of empty headed nothings, to equating us to baby machines and not really caring about what we think. So much progress, so much misogyny still. The media is still run by white men and while women are represented, how often do we hear our issues. Women normally outvote men in early voting by around 5%. We are outvoting men at this point by 12%. I suppose there will be an excuse as to why this is so good for Trump also. We outvote men in every election, but somehow not important enough to hear. We should be used to this shouldn't we? Those we believe are allies also ignoring it but we know why. Because it's women, it's just not a serious issue.

This is excellent. It's a frank discussion. I think O'Brien is right that people don't want to say the word fascism because deep down we can see it. And the other thing is, rather than excusing people for being 'conned', many of these people want it. And don't think this never happened in the US and that fascism has not existed in the US. What exactly do people think 100 years of Jim Crow laws were. And just a reminder, the Nazi's patterned their laws after the Jim Crow laws in the US.

I read about it in USA Today. They have gotten a lot of criticism for it which was likely their objective.

It's possible. I haven't been closely following polls, but I did read something a while back - can't remember where - that pollsters samples were R+2. This was allegedly to account for the Trump bump. Can't remember where, so maybe not but who knows.

Thank you for sharing that. I think we all tend to forget this. And why using social media as a gauge of public sentiment is so flawed. The study done including how the subgroup of people following and engaging with more positive accounts, felt more positive and helped translate to healthier and more positive mental health.

The only thing I wonder is where people think all this new support is coming from because he's already lost white male working class voters since 2016 and I don't buy the increase in black support - I just don't. And even those smaller demographic groups are not enough to offset the male votes and now white working class women he's going to lose. Even just 1 or 2% is huge in those rustbelt states.

It should be exciting but I see the concern. I just hope the safety of everyone there is of primary concern. I don't even know who handles security there. The DC Police? Knowing your moms history, I am sure so much of this has been painful. I'll keep you both in mind when I meditate this evening.

I was up in Milwaukee canvassing on Saturday. At the end of the day I let a conversation I had with a friend who lives in the area distract me for the next several hours, but it's nice to see this. The office we worked out of on Saturday was bustling. People in and out constantly. But it was a beautiful fall day weatherwise, and we had some good conversations and most people we spoke to were excited and motivated. We were knocking on democratic and independent doors. I've been doing phone banking off and on for weeks now for the same group I had been in the past 2 elections. We're getting even more positive response from the Independent and Republican women being targeted then the last election. I want to remind people women are a higher percentage of the population and we also vote at a higher percentage. I'm cautiously optimistic but I encourage ANY OF YOU, goto the Harris-Walz campaign site and look for a phone bank shift. They train you and all you need is a PC with a mic and speaker. LETS GO!!! I

I don't see this happening. I mean people comparing a 4th level comic to Don Rickles also. There were people who were offended by Rickles, but Rickles was actually a sweet man and his jokes hit everyone. Big difference between someone who punches at everyone especially the powerful and a 4th grade comic who only punches down. As for George Lopez, he's Mexican. Self deprecating humor is also different.

@DRW50 Since you mentioned Dearborn, thought I would share this. People need to stop in general profiling groups of people(we have all done the same at times) as if they all behave and act the same. There are likely issues and concerns that I share with other women but there are certainly things we might disagree on. Lord knows how many especially white women voted for that creature in 2016 and 2020. All Arab Americans do not think alike about everything. This is an interesting piece of information since so many are proclaiming Trump won the Arab American vote in MI because of a few clowns endorsing him.

Bezos was the worst thing that happened to the Post. LA Times and Post - same thing. The Times did endorse Harris. Let's be honest, Newspaper endorsements don't mean much anymore. And I don't want to sound like I am praising the NY Times, who has it's own Nepo BABY running the paper who's gutless. But it is a sign of how much we can expect any leaders across this country to stand up for anyone being targeted in the future should Trump become president. As if you can cowtow to a fascist. History tells us this doesn't work out well for anyone.

I have not posted much over the past year plus here, and I am going to disconnect for a few days - I;m going to Milwaukee to do canvassing this weekend, but wanted to drop this here RE: Nevada. Tom Bonier is one of the few people I trust - so please get some perspective on Nevada. Read the thread. I can post the 5 points if some of you no longer have access to X/Twitter.

Actually he's not the only one. Adam Carlson has illuded to this also. And Nevada did change their rules on auto voter registration in that everyone because NP, the majority of those are younger people. Time will tell.

You're getting caught up on social media which is the worst thing. Do yourself a favor. Volunteer to phone bank. I can get you the information. Over the years I have volunteered for political campaigns periodically. I worked on Lauren Underwoods campaign and she won one of those 40 seats the democrats flipped in 2018. It was the most recent best experience I have had since I volunteered with my mom for Carol Mosley Braun in 1992. Social media is the worst thing. Obsessing over polls and over social media is not healthy. Doing something productive will help you feel you are making a difference and you will. I have helped people transition into canvassing off and on for years now and a lot of people get real satisfaction. I was working with a woman and her young daughter in 2022 and we ended up at a republican home and the man there said nope but he thanked the woman I was with for bringing her daughter and getting her involved at such a young age and how important the work is. Sure you'll get people who don't want to be bothered, but over the years I have met some great people and even had good phone conversations on occasion. Also focus on self care and make sure YOU are ok. Taking care of your mental health is as if not more important than the physical, so be good to yourself.

I think that was what I have thought. I trust for example, Khan's points. What I don't trust is the media and the cynics. By the way, and before we keep buying into this garbage that actually indicates Black voters can be easily conned, let me remind people, who were the ones who have stepped up to save this democracy time and time again. Certainly not white voters. It was black voters in South Carolina who led the charge for Joe Biden. I still to this day believe black voters are the most astute and pragmatic, as it comes to voting. Moreso than any other voting group.

I have a question for folks. I am not criticizing Harris but why do you think that she's focusing on Trump and his danger. I don't disagree with this at all but part of me wonders if people are just numb to it. Although January 6th - people still remember it. I do recall Biden's speech in Philly about democracy and how the media poked fun at him for it. It turns out people really were concerned. So maybe it's me overthinking this as her closing statement but part of me is concerned that maybe her closing should be focusing on her economic agenda versus democracy and Trump is bad. Maybe it's PTSD from 2016 lol.

The Media/Journalism Thread
This is exactly why I believe very little on any network INCLUDING MSNBC. It's all performance and acting based on the message they want to send. And it's the kind of thing that makes me believe the entire black voters going to Trump is a mirage that even the media is playing up. But not with facts. As for social media, there are so many trolls on X/Twitter - I only go there for specific accounts - and I am with @DramatistDreamer. Too many trolls too many fake accounts. And it's 100 times worse than it was before.
