15 years! Long time! Then she was well rewarded. I was thinking about SOAPDISH & TOOTSIE. Monty is the producer & the show that had to do a live episode because the tape was ruined (and so was the back-up tape) was SFT. Was there anything else that was from truth?

Labine: Every single thing she pitched Rauch shot down. (Michael Malone at AW: Same, except it was Savitz shooting down.) Labine pitched a love story between Holly & Olivia. Labine & her children left. Rauch could not find anyone who would work either for him or for what they were paying & called Labine to come back. Which they did. So sad. I am in love with Nancy Curlee's "alternate version of what happened to Mo" which is what she'd have written if they'd let her. (Locher room chat) Stupid baseball diamond. I'd forgotten.

Oh, I totally love that!! It is funny how universally hated the Marley wig is. It's like it has a life of its own & it's a villain.

I guess I think they could be lucrative being streamed. I think there's an audience. Supposedly Pluto would like to be streaming Classic Soaps. There's no understanding why P&G doesn't sell or lease tapes from 1979 onward for NY soapdom! 3 weeks ago Stephen King was asking how he could watch EDGE OF NIGHT. Just a thought. Disney owns Santa Barbara, second only to B&B in international success.

@Errol I'm not saying this anywhere but here. There is a rumor that Disney has bought B&B. All of it. Current & vintage. Sounds crazy. Leave it with you. It was said at the Y&R Fan Weekend.

Okay but, why is it always on Friday & never any other day? If ABC is negligent, wouldn't you expect it to be random? Yep, me, too. Once I found the day's episode at the very bottom of the stack of two weeks worth of episodes! And that can be any day. Fridays are special because they're so regularly not available till whenever you wake up on Saturday. Then this past Friday's it was whenever I woke on Sunday! We talked a little tiny bit about CHINA BEACH because of Jeff Kober. It showed up this weekend in an article about the 10 most wanted shows that are not streaming as #6 in very good company. In case anyone is interested TV Shows Not Streaming: Homicide, Ed, Knots Landing, Moonlighting – TVLine

This is the earliest I've seen anyone put GL into that zone. I mean that was even before AW was canceled. Just remarking, is all. And, 1995 was the year that P&G pulled their Executive Shuffle where they took those 3 NY soaps & moved the EPs around except that, oddly, Laurie Caso got left out in the cold.

I was thinking about this. Who is supposed to have spun it this way? That perspective did not come from the soap press & it was not the perspective of the execs themselves. And I just wanted to say one more thing about accepting the general pay cut or not. Yes, it's true baht some people accepted it & then later, short time or medium time, moved on. A lot of upheaval was underway & some people were going to leave, quite naturally. It was still better for morale for them to accept than not. And another example of unselfishness is Martha Byrne who voluntarily took a pay cut one year simply because she knew the show was in trouble. (ATWT not GL)

Well, I think you're in real safe territory there! Most people seem to want "bad people" to get hit smack in the head, hard with karma if not worse. I think we enjoy seeing evil be punished! And, speaking of Leo I find it really cringeworthy that he thinks its okay to climb into bed with someone who is asleep because he is "lonely" or feeling pitiful or whatever is his excuse. He has no sense of boundaries at all!

Personally I thought about it wondering if he might get on better with a woman than a "boys club" but also on the negative side because I find his writing to be fairly misogynistic. But for me it's just a passing thought. I'm not going to overthink it.

DEADLINE: Days of our Lives Misconduct Investigation Against Co-EP Albert Alarr
Thank you for the information. I am now suitably furious with their website. Both companies appear on the same screen but it looks like the wrong one is the owner/publisher & the right one looks like something to do with their advertising. 🤬🖕🤢👎

BITD a friend, soap fan was by career a statistician & he proved mathematically that primetime and daytime & late night were all doomed to decline, shallow at first but then steeper. I always said maybe soaps could reinvent themselves again & prevent the eventuality. He thought that was a pretty pie in the sky idea. In her book Her Stories Elana Levine describes this period - 1995 & 1996 - when CBS wanted to dump & run, instead of invest a period of instability. Actually she dates it starting then so 1995-2003. Upheaval, turnover, so many different EPs & HWs. Except not so for the Bells soaps. Y&R and B&B had stability. Partly because that's the way he ran his shows & partly because he wasn't being micromanaged & everyone else was already. As soon as Bell Sr. died they began almost immediately to be micromanaged like everyone else. And GEN which was a fine show but in that exposed vulnerable midday spot both up against half of Y&R and also not tucked safely between the lead-off hour soap & the #2 hour soap. Most of them had clearance problems too. But, frankly, beginning in 1946 the US soap business created 84 televised soaps & so very many of them failed between 2 & 6 years. Starting up a brand new soap was a huge risk. One market aired GL at 9 a.m. There's never been a successful early to mid-morning soap. Plus, the fans seeing at 10 saw one day & that afternoon a different day. It was a terrible practice & a killer for online fans. "Day Ahead" was created & had meaning in context.

This is a list from Wikiwand so should only be considered tentative knowledge without confirmation but I thought it was interesting to look at what they say the slogans were. I'm a Baby Boomer & I was always interested in promotion.

DAYS Writing for example had 4 African Americans. 1. Dorell last script 2-1 and his contract term just ran out. 2. Jamey took a primetime gig by his choice although he still owes the show 2 weeks after strike 3. Cheryl won a playright's competition & her play is going to be produced. Obviously her choice to leave & so proud! 4. Recent Jazmen last day. IDK. Largely the show could not retain them by no fault of its own but where are the new recruits POC?!! 2 recent hires have been family members. That's a choice.

I believe it was in a 1996 LA Time article where it was revealed that CBS had asked Bill Bell to create a new soap for them, the year before in 1995. Bill Bell wanted nothing to do with this & wanted to be left completely out of it. Their plan was to replace the P&G soaps. They were so brazen doing this in the open & P&G threw whatever is a business "fit" & there was a battle of words between CBS and P&G. P&G won, sorta. CBS agreed to abandon the idea of new soaps and to retain ATWT & GL but they had conditions. For ATWT it was a different way of telling stories, different narrative style. Lynn Liccardo calls it pod story-telling. Where the traditional style could be said to be weaving a tapestry where different strands from different stories were connected in pod story-telling people & their stories would be isolated, standalone. For GL it was a new production model, drastically different. I believe both these changes contributed to the demise of the shows.

NBC frequently pitched violence against women. At one point in time they even claimed that it increased ratings. This shows up many places but the easiest one to refer to is HER STORIES by Elana Levine. Here's just a little blip about it in a larger essay not about it, where she indicates there was disagreement between EP/HW's at their shows & the execs at NBC about violence against women. So, it wasn't just Swajeski alone who fought with NBC about whether Jake would rape Marley or not. Others at other shows, same issue. DAYS had so much violence against women & NBC pushed a lot of that on them. And, this is a post from a poster at a huge AW forum on Facebook. @DRW50 Thanks for info on Morgan. Okay. Good to know. What year was Nora comatose?
