Well, sure that was stupid writing. Being bipolar would not make you think stupid things with no basis to them. Delusions of grandeur, thinking that you could accomplish 4 times what a human could in x amount of time, that you could afford something totally out of your range, yes, all of those but not, OH my brother & my wife are too close this is suspicious. I can see how stupid writing might've ruined it for you. I don't think we knew about him ahead of time. But, I think there was some filler about the time apart, but I don't recall any useful detail at all. My memory is like good twin & evil twin. Some things i remember huge detail with amazing clarity, other things, HUH?!

A 4-month long coma, which at the time, beginning Oct. 1990, was said to be the longest in soap history. Well, it was when NBC forced Swajeski to write that Jake raped Marley that she (1) became furious with them & quite unhappy in her job & (2) resolved that at the end of her contract she would leave. I was going to theorize that her writing suffered from the time she began battling with NBC over it till she left. I can't remember if she left in 1991 or 1992. Anyway, I don't know if the theory will float or not. Oh, I loved Morgan as Cass's brother.

As far as 'druthers go as to Alexandra, I'd 'druther Jill hadn't worked Beverlee 4 days a week from early morning till 8 in the evening & had her in a story where she was interfering with Nick & Mindy & when Beverlee spoke to her about those 2 things that she had listened to Beverlee & made some alterations & Beverlee had played Alexandra all the rest of her days.

Yes, and they were kicking themselves when they lost him. If she'd had any idea of his getting another gig she'd have played some other card. I'm a big fan of EW's but I don't think she was perfect. And, of course we make these criticisms with the benefit of knowing what actually did happen. All EPs make incorrect decisions in the heat of the moment. But, I agree. They needed an Ed. Being too stuck on PS was a mistake. Hated the ... avalanche? Water pouring. Flash flood? Whatever it was that began Lorelei which underwhelmed me. Other BethC I dug. Yes. Thank you for the refresher on what got balled up.

Completely agree. And I know by & large where he got to spend money at other shows he was considered successful. Yes, she did herself before, some unknown amt of time before, she went to others. Nobody. No, I think not. I don't know details about staff or crew & crew would have had to have union approval, which in other business situations has happened.

General Hospital: August 2023 Discussion Thread
Every Friday they screw up the show! You can set your watch by it. But never has it been any later than whenever you get up on Saturday. My ongoing tweet conversation with Hulu support has changed from Can you help us out? to No, I am not being patient. I'm furious. Do you want people to cancel their subs?! Etc. Plus I've demanded they give a reason. I just get back: apology & vague "sometimes reasons" & thanking me for my patience. Obviously a script. It's Saturday night & I'm talking to a script! 🤔🙄🤫👊🤞🖕🤏😵💫🤢 This 🖕 is not aimed at you.

Paul Rauch was able to arrange that. It was supposed to be for 6 months but some wires got crossed so it was only 3. She was incredible. She stated all sorts of things like how much she admired daytime actors & how they were the salt of the earth & indeed the hardest working people in the industry & buckled down & learned more lines than she ever had etc. I was one who was SO dubious & I was completely turned around. The new production model was dictated by CBS. How to implement it was on EW. They absolutely had to learn as they went with a humongous learning curve. There were problems but there was brilliance & it was a soap once again trying to reinvent itself.

You mean you think he did buy out his contract yesterday before announcing that he had been fired & replaced? And you think it was Ken's idea that Alarr issue that statement blaming everyone else & then playing the race card? And, while it is true that they turn over 5 episodes per week to Peacock, they actually tape 8 episodes per week. A Director says that there's no way they could do even one more scene but that they get in those 8 episodes every single week. Then he adds that it sort of makes their heads spin around like an F/X to accomplish it.

There was so much in his face. He was like the perfect character actor. Or he could be pictured by the definition in the dictionary of curmudgeon. May light perpetual shine upon him & may he have peace everlasting.

Ratings from the 70's
They wouldn't have had that kind of negotiating luxury to have sabotaged a deal! Then he was just the successful HW of DAYS. Lee was just a successful regional TV kind of variety & interview show person. And, yeah, I've always thought it interesting that Lin Bolen at NBC used flattery & studio space & money to get AW & DAYS on board. Then ABC also used the carrot on Agnes who probably couldn't believe the offer of studio space! But, with Bill CBS just used the stick. Hit him in the face to get his attention & then told him they WERE doing it with or without.

WOW. I had no idea. In all of the reading I've done about Bill Bell this is the first I've heard of this. Of course, learning that NBC almost did a 90 minute DAYS after AW's was also as shocking. Just found ATWT fans who hadn't yet learned that AW was always intended for NBC, never offered to CBS. These things where long-held common knowledge is debunked are fascinating to me. Thanks for another one.

Okay, ex-soap journo Michael Kape said to me that he would not comment except to say that it was about who owns SOD. So, I went to see about that somewhat quixotic statement that seemed pointed. SOD is owned by Odyssey Magazine Publishing Group, Inc. One individual is listed as principal, David J. Pecker. David J Pecker is an American publishing executive and businessman who was the CEO of American Media until August 2020. He was the publisher of Men’s Fitness, Muscle and Fitness, Flex, Fit Pregnancy, Shape and Star. He was also the publisher of National Enquirer, Sun, Weekly World News, and Globe

Okay, sorry then, I don't know who else it was at the same time as Jerry. I really thought it was MG. My mistake. They wanted Ed so bad that they even got Courtney to plead their case. And, they held off on story hoping he would relent. And that threw the timing of the story off when they ran with it. Who in their right minds would ever think Peter Simon would change his mind once stated?!!!

Hated Sandy. Hated the dadgummed sock puppet. Thanks again Ellen Weston. Hated Marty West's Shayne. Thanks again Conboy. Loved Tammy, Jonathan, Jami, Aubrey Dollar, Matt Bomer, ... Still say GL was robbed of the Emmy that year with Tammy's death & funeral. I'd put that up against a stupid Metro court hostage situation anytime. And, I am a GH fan! Yes, you're correct. Jerry was moved to recurring. Now I love EW but if it had been me I would have cut Cole loose & kept Jerry on contract. I believe at that time he had 2 sons in college. The someone else moved to recurring you're reaching for was Maureen Garrett, which pissed her off no end! Later she was ready to kill EW for wanting her to be romantic with Roger's son.

Oh, there's no question that she had that right. Everyone had the right to refuse. I just don't agree with her choice to do so. Jerry left for one reason only. Mark Derwin recommended him to OLTL & they offered him a paying gig. I don't believe that anyone thought she had anything to do with Jerry leaving. They weren't stupid. Jerry took a job as Clint. No reason to look for a reason beyond the obvious. Occam.

To me it's Reva & her sphere of influence that was the monster that ate Chicago. Although I also contend that the two extra locations damaged the show beyond measure. The Island Principality & its sphere & the Santos mob family & its sphere. There's a meme that went around that said that the Bennifer wedding reset time to 2004 & given that what & how would you reset your show. My first item of business resetting GL would be that Danny would have been found to be a long-lost Bauer descendant & not actually a Santos.

Yes, that was his unselfishness. He took himself out of the equation for a time. I understood her point. However, I also understand the concept that if a show was in trouble through no fault of its own, that if it went to everyone & asked them all to take a x% cut for the good of the show, or company in other businesses, that that is a reasonable thing to do. Her point was strictly that she should not have to consider a change in salary until her work cycle was up. Not some lofty philosophical thing, just a calendar date. Everyone was under contract. Everyone was asked. Everything was equal. Everyone had work cycle calendar dates. Everyone but Kim agreed to it. In other industries such has been asked and granted, for the survival of the entity. No reason it should not have been asked. She made her choice. Some agree with her. Some disagree with her. Then, of course, she took it a step further & bellyached that it was covered in the press making her look bad. Of course it was covered in the press & the story told both sides. I agree that Cole should have been let loose. Nothing about EW as EP has doodly to do with her being an actress on AW or AMC or B&B or an Emmy winner or an Evil Twin or even her being a Director. Apples? Oranges? One thing has squat to do with the other.

DEADLINE: Days of our Lives Misconduct Investigation Against Co-EP Albert Alarr
I have been privileged to participate in many fan campaigns. The two most successful stand out in my mind. (1) We kept JFP from killing Donna Love on AW. (2) We helped to get Al Alarr's ass fired. It's amazing how satisfying two examples can be.
