  1. The Allyson Rice-Taylor final airdate has been hard to penetrate actually; Connor's SOC profile mentions January air dates but clearly this is not the case. I can't remember it for sure myself but for a safe airdate I would say no later than the March 7th, 1997 episode for sure. Believe it or not Chris Browning would debut as the first David Stenbeck just two days later. It's almost hard to imagine that this whole Diego/Lily saga went from getting revenge for Damien's death only to lead directly into a James Stenbeck return caper but somehow the nimrods in charge at the time let it happen, I suppose they were desperate to turn ATWT back around.
  2. A couple years ago and probably 150+ pages back I had shared the 2/21/97 episode, and this is the Monday followup during the Who Shot Diego mess;
  3. haha You're welcome. I'm glad to hear some people are enjoying them, I actually went through the archives on here recently and discovered that this wasn't exactly a very popular era to say the very least, especially Sheila's whole return. I couldn't help as I was browsing through the comments but think to myself 'if only you all knew what was to come.' I don't know what it is about J.T, but for as long as I can remember, I have absolutely hated the character. Could never work out why exactly. Oh, I gave up on Mac when Ashley Bashioum left. The only time I seem to be invested in the teen scene on Y&R in general is looking at the 1994-2002-ish years. And as for Brad, he's a character that I wouldn't say I disliked, but I never really paid much attention to. He was just sort of there. I agree 100% however, he and Heinle strangely had some damn good chemistry together. I liked those two together far more than when she was paired with Billy Miller. Speaking of Brad, I went back recently and watched his final episodes back in 2009. I had totally wiped that scene where they find him from my mind, that image of him frozen under the ice will forever be burned into my mind. I was never a fan of JT for years as he sometimes could come off as a pompous self-righteous ass despite his own short-comings like sleeping with Anita Hodges, Julie Pinson's character, and putting down Colleen for her short comings. However I liked him once he was paired with Victoria and began working with Paul, that's probably been the only pairing I've liked that AH's Victoria has had. Going back to YRfan23's sharing that 1994 of Brad's heart attack once I had heard that Brad was going to die, I had hoped that Bard was going to die from a heart attack while having sex with Sharon. At least it would have better explained Sharon's madness after having Brad die between her thighs. I do find watching 1982 Y&R so interesting because their is a good deal of mix between classic elements of Y&R and more familiar elements of Y&R post 1982. Victor being the corporate raider he is by taking over Prentiss while Nikki had to rival Lorie Brooks, Jack lusting after Chris Brooks while also having chased after Peggy Brooks. It's just so fascinating and I just have to wonder how Y&R would have have been had Bell decided to the Fosters and Brooks families stick around for the '80s and '90s.
  4. Just finished watching that 1980-1985 compilation and it was an amazing! Thanks so much again for sharing! Julia got involved in Eve's schemes as a way to get revenge against Victor but later had a change of heart and decided to work against Eve as she finally forgave Victor for his past sins. I've seen Vanessa's fall before, but this is the first time I've seen the scene of Vanessa's funeral with Lucas' rage against Lorie and opening up Vanessa's coffin like that. Add to the list of unforgettable Y&R moments. Ya gotta love Katherine at this point as being Nikki's friend through the whole ordeal while in the meantime she's wickedly plotting away against her old nemesis Jill or Allison Bancroft somewhere. Ashley has always hated Dina with a passion for the abandonment and it has been brought up many, many times over the years. Dina being lovers with her boyfriend Eric Garrison or discovering Brent Davis was her father just added extra coal to the boiler. The child actor who played Chuckie was miles ahead of David Hasselhoff. I wonder why Bell never thought to bring back Chuckie in the '90s to give Jill some nephew she could control. Looking at the big picture, as much I loved the run I have to think that Dickson's '83-'87 run was somewhat betraying of the Jill we knew from '73-'83. Granted Jill should always be a fierce creature but I think Jill being the superbitch was a bit too much, especially once Dickson developed a British accent. I knew they brought back Adair to sub for Dickson in '86, did they ever ask her to come back full time in '87 once Dickson was going to be off the show for good? Then again I believe Adair quit acting at the end of her Days run in '95 and was doing a lot of primetime work post Y&R(Dynasty, Finder of Lost Loves etc.) so maybe she didn't want to commit at the time. I guess my one wish list is to see Bond Gideon as Jill. I heard it was baaad. Then again Melinda O. Fee seemed to do Jill okay.
  5. I think I left out of the part about the fact Katherine and Jill only thought they were mother and daughter because of manipulation of results from Liz Foster. It was horrible to throw something like that in there and throw the show original matriarch under the bus like that, It was a highly bizarre and unnecessary twist but I think I had grew to somewhat accept it, although I HATED whenever Jill would say to Katherine "Oh mother!". Completely unbelievable. It is difficult could to say what keeping Phillip III alive would have contributed at all to the show in the '90s. Certainly 1989-1991 was a splendid time for the trifecta of Katherine, Jill, and Nina, but obviously by 1995 I can imagine Bell wondering why he killed off Phillip. I imagine if Phillip had lived to see 1995 he probably would be helping cover up Jill's extramarital affairs while sleeping with Victoria to get back at Nina for divorcing him to be with Ryan after becoming tired of his recurrent benders. Of course by 1995 Phillip III's entire situation changes when he meets gold digging Phyllis, who almost immediately dumps Danny to be with him, much to Jill and Katherine's horror and chagrin. Well until we found Phillip's secret lover in France was Chase Benson. Daisy Carter could have worked with a ten times more competent writing and a twenty times more competent actress. Even watching old episodes of ER Zima was a terrible child actor!
  6. What were there biggest mistakes? Bell's said his biggest mistake was killing off Phillip III and well we saw how rectifying that turned out. Alden's was making Katherine and Jill mother and daughter(or was that Smith?) and while the twist was undone it eventually lead to bringing on Tucker McCall and shoving him down our throats for over three years.
  7. The problem with MAB is that she ended up copying a lot of things just for the irony or just trying remake history repeat itself: -Katherine and Marge story revisited complete with Clint Radison -Kevin seeing Terrible Tom's ghost again. -Brad and Colleen dying in the same lake. -Attempt to correct Bill Bell's alleged biggest mistake. -Finding Nina's long lost son. -Victoria arrested at her wedding just like Phyllis was. -Victor/Sharon revisited. -Victor throwing a chair out a window on Adam like Jack did on Victor. -Sharon presumed dead after a carjacker attacked her and died just like Victor in 1993. -Jack being shot in the same exact manner Ryan was. -Revisiting the Malcolm/Neil paternity feud by having Neil do the reverse to Malcolm. -Attempt to correct Kay Alden's alleged biggest mistake. -Meggie McClaine is the new Sarah aka Veronica Landers. -Attempt to milk the most out of Pheila.
  8. Brian Kerwin and Howard McGillian went on to become bigger stars than Wings Hauser ever was and Hauser wants to talk [!@#$%^&*]? Even Houghton is better known to Y&R fans! Roberta Leighton was so underused in her run ultimately and went the way of Matt Miller. To which both characters should have been uses a whole lot more but ended up being footnotes. It's almost hard to to see that David Hasselhoff and William Grey Espy played the same role sometimes. I know Espy is best known for his AW role but it was still was nice to see him return in 2003
  9. Watching that 1/3/92 episode and it's a little sad what's happened to Victor's character over the years. Here he was so concerned about Nikki's well being and was trying to get her to fight her alcoholism. Today Victor would probably shame Nikki for her drinking, call her a drunken whore, and then kick her to the curb instead of trying to help. He would then justify his ostracizing of her saying it was to protect his family from negative raging alcoholic.
  10. YRfan23, if I haven't given you enough love yet I want to extend you a GIANT BEAR hug for sharing these summer '93 episodes. That summer of '93 for Y&R has the fondest memories for me for classic Y&R and being off from school I don't think I missed an episode that summer. I'm about to watch them all in the fullest.
  11. I'd agree with Bell on that one, given Danny was pretty unpopular with viewers at the time and apparently throwing him at Christine was the only thing they could think of to sustain him. Phyllis had at least given Danny extra shelf life, but Paul and Christine went back to the summer of '93 and pretty much made their footnote in Y&R history between Paul saving Christine from Michael and them saving Margret and Miles by working together and later saving April. What made it so bad was that Katherine even appeared out of the black hole she was in at the time to advise Danny to reclaim Christine. I can't imagine what kind of "music storyline with Callie" Alden had planned with Callie and Danny except it would have had to have been very boring had it played out.
  12. A rare glimpse of Nikki #1, Erica Hope:
  13. It was a really dumb plotline that in his victory lap over Phyllis Danny decided to pursue Christine again to woo her away from Paul when they had already been happily married for two years. I guess that's why they ended up letting Damien go and writing Danny out due to lack of story line.
  14. Here is the recap for Y&R on this day exactly twenty years ago for Thursday, December 7th 1995:
  15. I actually didn't understand the multiple Daniel recasts either and it's funny that the first Daniel has been far more successful than Graz who seemed to do more outside work while on Y&R since leaving it. Unfortunately it wasn't until 2008 when Danny came back for the show's 35th anniversary and made up with Daniel that I finally realized how stupid that plot-line had been in hindsight. Still I'll admit I loved Stafford and Phyllis from her return until Phick happened. There was a weird line back in 2010 when Nikki was in rehab and Victor blasted her for her relations with Deacon whom Victor called "scum just like Brad Carlton, Bobby Marsino and David Chow!" I just never understood why Victor felt compelled to name Bobby Marsino of all people to that list.
  16. Not along while watching stuff on Y&R from 1987 I came across where Victor forgave Ashley for having the abortion and it was really sweet and moving. Probably something Braeden would never do today as the Victor has transformed from anti-hero to super-villain. Even Vito Corleone was more humble that Victor is. I don't think it wasn't until about 2000 or so when I first started hating on Victor between his relationship with Ramona(Victor's got show off his mojo!) and attempting to start a relationship with Ashley while using her at the same time(right before Spermgate). That's when I fell out with Victor. The sad thing about Victor and Diane was in spite of their less than humble beginnings they really fell in love with each other despite the cost. We had to see Victor painfully explain to a hurt Hope he had married Diane just as she was about to tell Victor Jr. of his true paternity. We saw a humbled Jack toast the couple and then support Victor and advise him of his options of having children with Diane inspite of the vasectomy. The only good thing about Victor and Genevieve was Jill eavesdropping in a geisha disguise and ended up ruining their business plan. Really only Jill can attack Victor and win these days, but with Jill only making rare appearances we probably won't get to see the two titans clash again.
  17. For me I have to take retrospective approach because even though it sounds bad looking back, at the time I actually had enjoyed some of that. Like for an example at the time I was a Phyllis fan and gleefully smirked over the Daniel/Danny neglect revelation as I was less than enthused with the Danny/Christine reunion at the time. I smirked when Grace Turner turned out to be Cameron's lover and co-conspirator. I felt Katherine falling off the wagon was due to reaching a mental breaking point from the stress of trying forge something with Jill and it was actually a nice throwback to have Katherine have flashbacks of her and Phillip and then dream of Rex and Phillip III. John dumping Gina for Van Ark's trashy Gloria was hilarious. However some of the other stuff which you mentioned Dee was indeed completely forgettable(Olivia even got engaged to Wes!) and even I had a forgot about some of that stuff. I could have bought a real Kevin redemption story, but they botched it really bad. Heck I forget about that orchid story, it feels like Damon Porter was never a character on the show now. I liked Damon, but then his own story went down with the stupid stuff about having to rescue his ex-wife or something? Ask me about the Cameron story and I think the only thing I can say about that story would "oh yeah that's when Nikki and Sharon were in the sewers". But yes 2004 did certainly unravel into a trainwreck and somehow Lynne, John Silva, and Mamie all exited stage left. Well I think Lynne moved in her with her mother in Chicago but it was all without any fanfare. Didn't Braeden almost at one point leave for a bit in the fall of 2004? I remember right after taking his complaints to the soap press Victor was gone for a month to seek out Victoria to convince her to return.
  18. I thought the first half of 2004 was pretty solid, but I will admit between August 2004 and May 2005 remains a blur to me and I don't remember too much of anything going on aside from Malcolm's return, Jack and Phyllis' car crash in a winter storm, and that really, really bizarre story about David Hedison and Kin Schriner's characters that was abruptly dropped for no reason. And somewhere in there JT dated a singer played by Julie Pinson but it was a blink and you'll miss it type story. Mac and JT were indeed coma inducing named Worst couple/Most boring couple by SOD back in 2005. I was surprised they even tried pairing them again in 2010 to no avail and ended up shipping them off. I didn't mind Mac hanging around Kevin though. JT was so annoying back then too always being a bit too self-righteous at times Kinsey was bad as Mac and later played on Days in a strange role of Rafe's dead girlfriend's twisted sister or something to that effect. Devon wasn't always properly used as he should have been and was almost intolerable as a character 2007-2009.
  19. LOL at Nina's "To Do" List, especially the Harding/Kerrigan reference. Unfortunately had Pratt been writing Y&R in 1995 I'm certain all of those ideas would play out on screen. Poor Phillip Moon never had a chance.
  20. Just a question, if Hunter Tylo had successfully left B&B in 1996 to join Melrose Place what would have been done with Taylor? Recast? Brooke was having her meltdown at the time and they were testing out Ridge and Lauren.
  21. This from SOD again and it is a little bit earlier in 1976, but it always reminds me that Tom Hughes had a life before Margo and never aged. Poor Kevin and Sandy in the long run, what was the reasoning of bringing Sandy back in the first place?
  22. I'm probably certain these have been shared before, but trying to getting away from the comedy that airs daily on CBS at 12:30 I needed to look back on what I miss most of the CBS daytime line-up. 23. Going through my old files and found this lovely write-up of a Who's Who on L&F/FRFP. I'm just sorry this show never quite took off: Who's Who.... Lovers and Friends/For Richer, For Poorer followed the classic two-family set up for soap opera -- one wealthy, one middle-class. In this case, the wealthy family were the Cushings; the middle-class were the Saxtons. Also thrown into the mix were the Brewsters, Hamiltons, and Fergusons who found their lives woven into the lives of the two core families. The Cushing Family Richard Cushing The patriarch of the Cushing family and founder and president of Cushing & Sons, a stock brokerage house. He's the husband of Edith Cushing and the father of Austin Cushing and Megan Cushing. Richard died during the hiatus between the last episode of L&F and the first episode of FRFP. played by: Ron Randall (1977) Edith Cushing The matriarch of the Cushing family. She's the wife of Richard Cushing and the mother of Austin Cushing and Megan Cushing. played by: Nancy Marchand (1977); Laurinda Barrett (1977-1978) Austin Cushing The son of Richard & Edith Cushing. He's an artist with no interest in the family business until he decides to return to Cushing & Sons after the death of his father. He marries girlfriend Amy Gifford during the hiatus between L&F and FRFP. Also, during that hiatus, Austin became a character on Another World, played by the same actor. played by: Rod Arrants (1977-1978) Megan Cushing The daughter of Richard & Edith Cushing. She's a reporter for City Magazine. She was engaged to marry true-love Rhett/Bill Saxton until his former girlfriend announced her pregnancy by him on their wedding day. played by: Patricia Estrin (1977); Darlene Parks (1977-1978) The Saxton Family Lester Saxton The patriarch of the Saxton family. He's the husband of Josie Saxton and the father of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Jason Saxton, Bentley Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. Originally a rising executive at Cushing & Sons, a return to alcoholism cost him his job and the family fell on hard times before he took a law clerk position for the law firm of Hamilton & Kimball. played by: John Heffernan (1977); Albert Stratton (1977-1978) Josie Saxton The matriarch of the Saxton family. She's the wife of Lester Saxton and the mother of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Jason Saxton, Bentley Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. played by: Patricia Englund (1977-1978) Rhett/Bill Saxton Originally named "Rhett" during L&F, the character was renamed "Bill" for FRFP. He's the eldest son of Lester & Josie Saxton and the brother of Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Jason Saxton, Bentley Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. He's a photographer for City Magazine where he works closely with true-love Megan Cushing. Unfortunately, his former fiancée Connie Ferguson won't let him go easily. He's forced to leave Megan on their wedding day and later marry Connie when Connie reveals that she's pregnant with his child. played by: Bob Purvey (1977); David Ramsey (1977); Tom Happer (1977-1978) Eleanor "Ellie" Saxton Kimball She's the eldest daughter of Lester & Josie Saxton and the sister of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Jason Saxton, Bentley Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. She's quite status concious and upwardly-mobil, having married attorney George Kimball. After a miscarriage, she and George struggle to conceive another child, leading to a preoccupation with her newborn nephew. played by: Flora Plumb (1977-1978) George Kimball He's the husband of Ellie Saxton Kimball and a partner in the Hamilton & Kimball law firm. played by: Stephen Joyce (1977-1978) Jason Saxton He's the middle son of Lester & Josie Saxton. He's the brother of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Bentley Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. He's an overly ambitious and unscrupulous executive with Cushing & Sons who embarks on an affair with the married Laurie Brewster Hamilton while also trying to woo Megan Cushing, his brother's former fiancée, in order to better his standing in the company. played by: Richard Backus (1977-1978) Bentley Saxton He's the youngest son of Lester & Josie Saxton and the brother of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Jason Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. A teen-ager during L&F, he's in college at the start of FRFP, but leaves school to take a job at Lee Ferguson's garage not knowing that Lee and the garage have criminal connections. played by: David Abbott (1977-1978) Tessa Saxton She's the youngest daughter of Lester & Josie Saxton and the sister of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Jason Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. A teen-ager during L&F, she's in college during FRFP. She causes much conflict in her family when she becomes involved with Lee Ferguson, a man some 10 years her senior with criminal connections. played by: Vicky Dawson (1977); Breon Gorman (1977-1978) Amy Gifford She's the neice of Lester & Josie Saxton and a cousin to the Saxton children. A model, she married Austin Cushing during the hiatus between L&F and FRFP. She's also the former lover of Lee Ferguson. played by: Christine Jones (1977-1978) The Ferguson Family Ira Ferguson He's the father of Lee Ferguson and Connie Ferguson played by: Roy Poole (1977-1978) Lee Ferguson Son of Ira Ferguson and brother of Connie Ferguson. He runs a garage that's a front for stolen cars. He falls for the much younger Tessa Saxton and he's also the former lover of her cousin Amy Gifford. played by: Robert Burton (1977-1978) Connie Ferguson Daughter of Ira Ferguson and sister of Lee Ferguson. At one time engaged to Rhett/Bill Saxton, she became obsessed with him and conceived his child during an affair, causing a halt to his wedding to Megan Cushing, later marrying him. Deeply neurotic concerning Bill's love for Megan, there's no trick she won't pull to keep him away from her. played by: Susan Foster (1977); Cynthia Bostick (1977-1978) The Brewster/Hamilton Family Roger Hamilton He's the father of Desmond Hamilton and long-time friend of the Cushing family. He takes over the presidency of Cushing & Sons after the death of Richard Cushing, becoming much closer to widowed Edith Cushing in the process. played by: Charles Bateman (1977-1978) Desmond Hamilton He's the son of Roger Hamilton who marries Laurie Brewster during the hiatus between L&Fand FRFP. He's an attorney and partner in the Hamilton & Kimball law firm. played by: David Knapp (1977-1978) Laurie Brewster Hamilton She's the daughter of Viola Brewster and long-time best friend of Megan Cushing. Head strong and self-centered, she married Desmond Hamilton, but quickly fell out of love with him and in love with the much more exciting and dastardly Jason Saxon, beginning an affair with him behind her husband's back. played by: Julia MacKenzie (1977-1978) Viola Brewster She's the mother of Laurie Brewster who's hell-bent on keeping her troublesome daughter from completely ruining her life with her extramarital affair. played by: Patricia Barry (1977-1978)
  24. I'd believe it given some local channels have often aired forgotten public domain from the early 50's for years (see "I Married Joan" or "My Little Margie" as the best examples).
  25. Going through down memory lane on old posts here in cancelled soaps now that I have access again to an old computer makes it more fun. I've used Matt P. Smith's Soap Opera History write-ups for other soaps both short-lived and long-lived but noticed I hadn't shared one for this soap:
