  1. I loved Gilly too she was a great character who was on for so many years yet was ultimately destroyed for no apparent reason there in 1996 with a ridiculous and bizarre story. Before that I just loved she was a sassy, ambitious and classy businesswoman who could hold her own. I really liked Gilly with both Hamp and later on Sid as well with Alan-Michael. As for Passions yes, the less said the better because Marshall was downright awful even for Passions standards I could at the time only cling to my better memories of Marshall and Gilly at GL.
  2. Jensen Buchanan actually did some remarkable work as Marley there in 1992, it's a shame the show would later stop writing for Marley altogether toward the end of '93 after Marley and Dennis inexplicably broke up. If recall right Buchanan didn't like Marley or being paired with the actor who played Ian Rain(well, guess who had the last laugh on that one?), and thus her 1994 contract to return was negotiated as such. What did you guys think of Russell Todd's Jamie as compared to previous Jamie's(i.e. Lau, Bekins, Yates etc)
  3. It's funny I use to find Clarice annoying and couldn't understand why a character like that lasted as long as she did, but overtime especially in the last decade I've come to appreciate both character and actress Gail Brown a whole lot more just for the realism and authenticity. Now I wonder why AW foolishly let her and Larry go.
  4. It's from the Friday August 4, 1995 episode. I first found this on an VHS tape which is buried in a storage unit of the family like fifteen years ago. I haven't seen this since re-watching those old tapes a few years ago, glad to see the actual episode has finally surfaced on Youtube! I just love the banter between Dusay and Walker especially with Tangie's meltdown--a high point for a largely unsuccessful character who was winding down at the time, as Walker left the show at the end of the month. There was actual speculation online at the time that Tangie would be offed by Brent/Marian but many were disappointed when Tangie exited just a few weeks shy of Brent/Marian's first victim.
  5. For some reason in 1997 when Lucinda encountered the newly resurrected James he brought up Bianca just to taunt her and I believe that was the last time I recall she was ever mentioned. You're right though, bringing back Bianca in the '00s would have meant banging Craig, Dusty, and Holden before being killed off by Katie or Lily in self-defense.
  6. Why wasn't the Alex/Vanessa rivalry more utilized? Speaking of which, Alex and Tangie? Actually I found this to be highly entertaining when I first saw it aired. I believe Dusay if I recall right was nominated for an Emmy from some of this material. Also gotta love the wave being used as Tangie is hauled out of the courtroom:
  7. Gossip Girl vibe? Like someone is narrating the show as a blog?
  8. Is this show any good or worth checking out? I hated to hear they changed location from Denver to Atlanta, but to see Nicollette Sheridan again on TV sounds worth it--as the new Alexis no less sounds fascinating. Desperate Housewives never recovered from the loss of Edie as a character either.
  9. Amongst viewers and some of the soap press while they lauded Jeanne Cooper and were entertained, the common criticism of the story was the doppelganger part was a bit of stretch for a more reality based show like Y&R, quite similar to Brad in a cage the previous year. Of course no one in 1990 could predict twenty years later doppelgangers would become a dime a dozen and more ridiculous with the next one, that we'd see Katherine Chancellor in a landfill and co-piloting helicopters, or there would be death by volcano.
  10. Katie and Brad were tolerable, it was just by that point the writing turned more sour than usual. Passanante's "Villain of the Month" capers just sucked so bad there wasn't even entertainment value by that point, like the Spencer and Dani debacle.
  11. The Endicott Awards exposure was great to fun to see Katie get taken down, and I had liked Katie's characterization through the Simon years as I was a fan of the pairing as well as the early Mike and Katie story. I believe it was late 2005/early 2006 or thereabouts during the Nick Kasnoff caper of when Katie became a massive sanctimonious hypocrite as she pitted herself tooth and nail against Carly, despite Katie ruining her own marriage herself at the time. Katie being paired up with Jack was the worst!
  12. Just since we're on the topic of the early 1980's Y&R castings, has anyone ever seen clips of Brett Halsey as the original John Abbott? Just curious as to how he was in the role. His John is about as obscure at Bond Gideon's Jill (I was shocked a few years ago when clips of Melinda O. Fee as a temp Jill cast surfaced ever so briefly).
  13. What was Steve Williams like? I know he left town with Peggy Brooks but that's about it. I've read about the Danny/Traci/Patty stuff before and it sounded really depressing and dark concerning Patty's angle in the story. Between shooting Jack and pushing Traci down a flight of stairs it sounds like Patty was bound to be unhinged anyways. Wonder how her 1996 return would have played out if the story had gone through as planned.
  14. Thank you!! I had finally caught up with them all. I wonder if Bell had planned anything else for the Laurence family but it seems they were pretty much gone to by the end of '82. Funny that a lot of the Victor/Nikki/Kevin triangle and Victoria's paternity has been immortalized in the 1983 Micheal Keaton movie Mr. Mom
  15. @YRfan23 and @ltm1997 for the 1982 episodes!!!! Looking back I agree with Carl @DRW50 about Liz Foster never should have left the show at all. McCarthy's Liz could have easily continued as the show's Ada Hobson, something Y&R probably could have used but never had after they dropped Liz. I suppose Bell liked playing against type and liked the messy matriarch(Jennifer, Katherine, Mary, Dina, Alison, Joanna) more as opposed to a traditional matriarch. Even Liz had a past. The Robert/Claire stuff was creepy and bizarre. I have yet to see clips of their daughter Angela who was apparently played by a very young Elizabeth Keifer. The actress who played Claire, Susanne Zenor had been very popular and successful on Days as Margo Horton until the show inexplicably killer the character off as part of Days' mass 1980 cast firings. I believe the Y&R role was her last, she was also married in real life to the original Bill Horton Edward Malloy. It's also fascinating to see the Victor/Lorie stuff unfold so quickly right after Lorie had been exonerated. I have to laugh and wonder if Vanessa knew her death would be in such vain with Victor gobbling up the company in no time just to impress Lorie.
  16. I think Nick's SOARSing also hurt Victor and Nikki as well for a few years there in terms of viability. Chance/Phillip IV naturally aged between 1988 and 2001, why couldn't Nick as well?
  17. I personally was ok with an aged Victoria because Heather Tom turned out to be great, I just wish John Nelson-Alden lasted in the role of Nick a whole LOT longer.
  18. Ho boy, now this is indeed EMBARRASSINGLY BAD especially since Dano had just won the Emmy!
  19. WOW thank you so much for sharing the 1984 episodes!!!!!!! I absolutely loved watching them this morning here. Some fascinating things I noticed: -I wish both Julia and Liz had actually stuck around for the long term they both would have been viable assets even into the '90s and early '00s. I love that we're still at a point Julia can call out Victor's hypocrisy over his investigation of Jamie's paternity and he immediately backs off and smiles in agreement. In the case of Liz she would have been a good and medium talk to character for Jill, Katherine, etc. Wasn't Liz also acting as Victoria's nanny at the time too? Y&R really should have retained it's original matriarch (What, do you really think anyone would actually listen to or take seriously Mary Williams' advice over a cup of coffee and doughnuts?!!?) -I love the complexity of Jill's story as well. It's right before she nearly became Alexis 2.0 but I'm left wondering of her exact motives before throwing herself off the ladder. Did she not want the baby at all or was it just to cover-up her affair with Jack? Ironically nine years later Jill was but desperate to have another baby, especially in light of Phillip's death which I sympathized with. However here I can't recall her exact motive. I suppose Bell decided against doing another Mike Horton paternity story for Y&R? -I really like Jazz Jackson now and I really enjoyed seeing a friendship he had with Boobsie(the late Joy Garrett) that I had no idea about. I've always liked the Jackson brothers every time I have seen them, too bad Bell couldn't sustain story for them into the '90s. Obviously in retrospect they're Malcolm and Neil 1.0 but I find them both very likable and saddened their time on Y&R later became on the absurd side before being dropped. -LOL, loved Gina and Patty throwing shade about Lauren.
  20. She got stuck with an awful one-note villainess role on Passions for the longest. It was sad to see Marshall be given such a thnakless role.
  21. Thanks so much for sharing the 03/09/95 ep @YRfan23 I had even myself forgotten that Steve and Traci had popped up again, I don't remember them at all appearing in '95 as I had thought there was a gap in appearances between '94 and '96. Their material problems seem so minuscule compared to what Ashley was dealing with at the time lol. In hindsight I wonder why Steve and Traci never had/nor was given a kid of their own. This past Christmas it broke my heart when Traci was excited to see Billy's kids for Christmas yet in a perfect world we'd see Traci with her own grandkids, the offspring of J.T. and Colleen of course. Actually it was notorious of characters appearing in and out within an episode during this time period. A few years ago from the summer of '95 I remember one ep made it before being taken it had something bizarrely in reverse; Jack, Jill and Brad all appeared in the first half of the episode but did not even appear in the second half!! BTW it of course featured my favorite of the 1993-1995 opening sets, the Lauren open. Too many divas in one opening of course!
  22. Only to have Clay cover up Jack's death and then have have Clay later admit Jack was still alive out there? That's pretty harsh!
  23. I had no idea that Jessica Collins and the guy who played Trucker were married at one point. I'm surprised that Tyler never popped up again in daytime at any point in time. I knew I had gotten Collins and Rebecca Gayheart confused six years ago during the Avery hiring on Y&R when I commented Collins has mulled down a child while high on pills but if I recall right that was actually Gayheart. I love seeing anything Loving really, its been so long since I remember watching the soap but overall it was the only ABC soap I actually liked watching in the early 90s this coming from a loyal Bell/Corday/P&G soap fan.
