  1. For me I have to take retrospective approach because even though it sounds bad looking back, at the time I actually had enjoyed some of that. Like for an example at the time I was a Phyllis fan and gleefully smirked over the Daniel/Danny neglect revelation as I was less than enthused with the Danny/Christine reunion at the time. I smirked when Grace Turner turned out to be Cameron's lover and co-conspirator. I felt Katherine falling off the wagon was due to reaching a mental breaking point from the stress of trying forge something with Jill and it was actually a nice throwback to have Katherine have flashbacks of her and Phillip and then dream of Rex and Phillip III. John dumping Gina for Van Ark's trashy Gloria was hilarious. However some of the other stuff which you mentioned Dee was indeed completely forgettable(Olivia even got engaged to Wes!) and even I had a forgot about some of that stuff. I could have bought a real Kevin redemption story, but they botched it really bad. Heck I forget about that orchid story, it feels like Damon Porter was never a character on the show now. I liked Damon, but then his own story went down with the stupid stuff about having to rescue his ex-wife or something? Ask me about the Cameron story and I think the only thing I can say about that story would "oh yeah that's when Nikki and Sharon were in the sewers". But yes 2004 did certainly unravel into a trainwreck and somehow Lynne, John Silva, and Mamie all exited stage left. Well I think Lynne moved in her with her mother in Chicago but it was all without any fanfare. Didn't Braeden almost at one point leave for a bit in the fall of 2004? I remember right after taking his complaints to the soap press Victor was gone for a month to seek out Victoria to convince her to return.
  2. I thought the first half of 2004 was pretty solid, but I will admit between August 2004 and May 2005 remains a blur to me and I don't remember too much of anything going on aside from Malcolm's return, Jack and Phyllis' car crash in a winter storm, and that really, really bizarre story about David Hedison and Kin Schriner's characters that was abruptly dropped for no reason. And somewhere in there JT dated a singer played by Julie Pinson but it was a blink and you'll miss it type story. Mac and JT were indeed coma inducing named Worst couple/Most boring couple by SOD back in 2005. I was surprised they even tried pairing them again in 2010 to no avail and ended up shipping them off. I didn't mind Mac hanging around Kevin though. JT was so annoying back then too always being a bit too self-righteous at times Kinsey was bad as Mac and later played on Days in a strange role of Rafe's dead girlfriend's twisted sister or something to that effect. Devon wasn't always properly used as he should have been and was almost intolerable as a character 2007-2009.
  3. LOL at Nina's "To Do" List, especially the Harding/Kerrigan reference. Unfortunately had Pratt been writing Y&R in 1995 I'm certain all of those ideas would play out on screen. Poor Phillip Moon never had a chance.
  4. Just a question, if Hunter Tylo had successfully left B&B in 1996 to join Melrose Place what would have been done with Taylor? Recast? Brooke was having her meltdown at the time and they were testing out Ridge and Lauren.
  5. This from SOD again and it is a little bit earlier in 1976, but it always reminds me that Tom Hughes had a life before Margo and never aged. Poor Kevin and Sandy in the long run, what was the reasoning of bringing Sandy back in the first place?
  6. I'm probably certain these have been shared before, but trying to getting away from the comedy that airs daily on CBS at 12:30 I needed to look back on what I miss most of the CBS daytime line-up. 7. Going through my old files and found this lovely write-up of a Who's Who on L&F/FRFP. I'm just sorry this show never quite took off: Who's Who.... Lovers and Friends/For Richer, For Poorer followed the classic two-family set up for soap opera -- one wealthy, one middle-class. In this case, the wealthy family were the Cushings; the middle-class were the Saxtons. Also thrown into the mix were the Brewsters, Hamiltons, and Fergusons who found their lives woven into the lives of the two core families. The Cushing Family Richard Cushing The patriarch of the Cushing family and founder and president of Cushing & Sons, a stock brokerage house. He's the husband of Edith Cushing and the father of Austin Cushing and Megan Cushing. Richard died during the hiatus between the last episode of L&F and the first episode of FRFP. played by: Ron Randall (1977) Edith Cushing The matriarch of the Cushing family. She's the wife of Richard Cushing and the mother of Austin Cushing and Megan Cushing. played by: Nancy Marchand (1977); Laurinda Barrett (1977-1978) Austin Cushing The son of Richard & Edith Cushing. He's an artist with no interest in the family business until he decides to return to Cushing & Sons after the death of his father. He marries girlfriend Amy Gifford during the hiatus between L&F and FRFP. Also, during that hiatus, Austin became a character on Another World, played by the same actor. played by: Rod Arrants (1977-1978) Megan Cushing The daughter of Richard & Edith Cushing. She's a reporter for City Magazine. She was engaged to marry true-love Rhett/Bill Saxton until his former girlfriend announced her pregnancy by him on their wedding day. played by: Patricia Estrin (1977); Darlene Parks (1977-1978) The Saxton Family Lester Saxton The patriarch of the Saxton family. He's the husband of Josie Saxton and the father of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Jason Saxton, Bentley Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. Originally a rising executive at Cushing & Sons, a return to alcoholism cost him his job and the family fell on hard times before he took a law clerk position for the law firm of Hamilton & Kimball. played by: John Heffernan (1977); Albert Stratton (1977-1978) Josie Saxton The matriarch of the Saxton family. She's the wife of Lester Saxton and the mother of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Jason Saxton, Bentley Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. played by: Patricia Englund (1977-1978) Rhett/Bill Saxton Originally named "Rhett" during L&F, the character was renamed "Bill" for FRFP. He's the eldest son of Lester & Josie Saxton and the brother of Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Jason Saxton, Bentley Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. He's a photographer for City Magazine where he works closely with true-love Megan Cushing. Unfortunately, his former fiancée Connie Ferguson won't let him go easily. He's forced to leave Megan on their wedding day and later marry Connie when Connie reveals that she's pregnant with his child. played by: Bob Purvey (1977); David Ramsey (1977); Tom Happer (1977-1978) Eleanor "Ellie" Saxton Kimball She's the eldest daughter of Lester & Josie Saxton and the sister of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Jason Saxton, Bentley Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. She's quite status concious and upwardly-mobil, having married attorney George Kimball. After a miscarriage, she and George struggle to conceive another child, leading to a preoccupation with her newborn nephew. played by: Flora Plumb (1977-1978) George Kimball He's the husband of Ellie Saxton Kimball and a partner in the Hamilton & Kimball law firm. played by: Stephen Joyce (1977-1978) Jason Saxton He's the middle son of Lester & Josie Saxton. He's the brother of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Bentley Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. He's an overly ambitious and unscrupulous executive with Cushing & Sons who embarks on an affair with the married Laurie Brewster Hamilton while also trying to woo Megan Cushing, his brother's former fiancée, in order to better his standing in the company. played by: Richard Backus (1977-1978) Bentley Saxton He's the youngest son of Lester & Josie Saxton and the brother of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Jason Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. A teen-ager during L&F, he's in college at the start of FRFP, but leaves school to take a job at Lee Ferguson's garage not knowing that Lee and the garage have criminal connections. played by: David Abbott (1977-1978) Tessa Saxton She's the youngest daughter of Lester & Josie Saxton and the sister of Rhett/Bill Saxton, Eleanor (Ellie) Saxton Kimball, Jason Saxton, and Tessa Saxton. A teen-ager during L&F, she's in college during FRFP. She causes much conflict in her family when she becomes involved with Lee Ferguson, a man some 10 years her senior with criminal connections. played by: Vicky Dawson (1977); Breon Gorman (1977-1978) Amy Gifford She's the neice of Lester & Josie Saxton and a cousin to the Saxton children. A model, she married Austin Cushing during the hiatus between L&F and FRFP. She's also the former lover of Lee Ferguson. played by: Christine Jones (1977-1978) The Ferguson Family Ira Ferguson He's the father of Lee Ferguson and Connie Ferguson played by: Roy Poole (1977-1978) Lee Ferguson Son of Ira Ferguson and brother of Connie Ferguson. He runs a garage that's a front for stolen cars. He falls for the much younger Tessa Saxton and he's also the former lover of her cousin Amy Gifford. played by: Robert Burton (1977-1978) Connie Ferguson Daughter of Ira Ferguson and sister of Lee Ferguson. At one time engaged to Rhett/Bill Saxton, she became obsessed with him and conceived his child during an affair, causing a halt to his wedding to Megan Cushing, later marrying him. Deeply neurotic concerning Bill's love for Megan, there's no trick she won't pull to keep him away from her. played by: Susan Foster (1977); Cynthia Bostick (1977-1978) The Brewster/Hamilton Family Roger Hamilton He's the father of Desmond Hamilton and long-time friend of the Cushing family. He takes over the presidency of Cushing & Sons after the death of Richard Cushing, becoming much closer to widowed Edith Cushing in the process. played by: Charles Bateman (1977-1978) Desmond Hamilton He's the son of Roger Hamilton who marries Laurie Brewster during the hiatus between L&Fand FRFP. He's an attorney and partner in the Hamilton & Kimball law firm. played by: David Knapp (1977-1978) Laurie Brewster Hamilton She's the daughter of Viola Brewster and long-time best friend of Megan Cushing. Head strong and self-centered, she married Desmond Hamilton, but quickly fell out of love with him and in love with the much more exciting and dastardly Jason Saxon, beginning an affair with him behind her husband's back. played by: Julia MacKenzie (1977-1978) Viola Brewster She's the mother of Laurie Brewster who's hell-bent on keeping her troublesome daughter from completely ruining her life with her extramarital affair. played by: Patricia Barry (1977-1978)
  8. I'd believe it given some local channels have often aired forgotten public domain from the early 50's for years (see "I Married Joan" or "My Little Margie" as the best examples).
  9. Going through down memory lane on old posts here in cancelled soaps now that I have access again to an old computer makes it more fun. I've used Matt P. Smith's Soap Opera History write-ups for other soaps both short-lived and long-lived but noticed I hadn't shared one for this soap:
  10. I'm wish SONY would at release a Y&R DVD set at the very least. Maybe we should start campaigning?
  11. From almost twenty-one years ago here are recaps from the first two weeks of October 1994 from Soap Opera News: October 3rd-7th: Ryan takes the bait Victoria visits Ryan at his office complaining about her flagging sex life with Cole. She hasn’t made love to Cole since he found out about the centerfold. Remembering his marriage to Vicki, Ryan can’t help but wonder whether they’d still be married if Victoria had been as sexually uninhibited as she is now. He offers to talk to Cole on Victoria’s behalf but she doesn’t want to arouse suspicion in Cole that they may be more than just friends. Nina spills the beans Meanwhile, after dreaming that Ryan finds out about the baby and angrily lashes out at her, Nina decides to tell him the truth. Shaken up by the dream she expects that Ryan won’t forgive her for keeping the news from him. But much to Nina’s surprise and relief, Ryan is sympathetic and only regrets that he hadn’t been there to support his wife in her grief. Chris goes Vietnamese Chris introduces Keemo to a typical American dinner. When Keemo notices Paul entering the apartment, he invites Chris to a typically Vietnamese dinner, hoping that Paul will recognise that he too, is in the race for Chris’ heart. Meanwhile Chris is being pursued by Danny. When he spots Chris and Paul dancing at Gina’s and notices that Chris is wearing an engagement ring, he vows to win her back. Brad chases Ashley Beset by marital problems of her own, Ashley tells Brad that Blade has been untruthful. He let her befriend Mari Jo without mentioning she was once Blade’s lover. Saddened by Ashley’s news, Brad threatens Blade, saying he regrets not marrying Ashley himself. Jack’s flashback Jack is served tea in his army mess kit cup when he visits Luan for a romantic dinner. He explains that he tried desperately to trace her after his letters came back to him “return to sender” and tells Luan that he never wants to lose her again. Victoria says au revoir Fed up by her husband’s disinterest, Victoria packs her bags and threatens to leave him. Cole insists that running away won’t change anything, but Victoria says she can’t stay with a man who continues to berate her like a child. Cole retaliates by making love to his wife, having forgotten, for the time being anyway, that their marriage is in trouble. October 10th-14th: War of the Abbotts Jill and John prepare to slug it out in court. Jill claims divorce on the grounds of mental cruelty while John serves papers accusing Jill of adultery with a “John Doe”. She is advised by Silva to live the life of a hermit as John will no doubt have her under surveillance in the hope of finding evidence of her philandering. Kay offers to be friend Jill but she does this only to pass on useful information to John. Nick goes all the way While Sharon slips into sexy lingerie for her date with Nick, Doris fears that he’ll take advantage of her daughter. Sharon assures her mother that Nick isn’t like her last boyfriend who left her pregnant at the age of 16. But Sharon is unable to ignore her mother’s warning and when Nick tries to seduce her at the stables, she gets cold feet and asks to be taken home. The next day at the coffee-house, Sharon is devastated to hear Amy boasting to her about her night of passion with Nick. Hope's walk gone wrong Hope is reminded of her vulnerability when she is terrorized and mugged by two thugs after wandering into an unknown neighborhood. She is saved by policemen patrolling the area, but returns home defeated. She tells Victor that she will terminate the pregnancy. Round one to Jill In the courtroom John and Jill hurl accusations at one another. At the end of it, Jill is grant-ed temporary custody of Billy. Meanwhile, Kay approaches Jill as part of a ploy to win her friendship. But Jill isn’t fooled and sends her away. Later Silva advises Jill that Kay may prove an invaluable ally when the judge calls for someone to testify to her parenting skills. Jill is troubled by a subpoena served on Jed which could reveal all about her affair. Ryan lends an ear Ryan is visited by Victoria who again confides in him about her ongoing marital problems. She also tells Ryan that she regrets ever giving him up. Later when Victoria learns that Nina miscarried, she’s left pondering whether Ryan’s marriage will survive the loss of the baby. Meanwhile, Chris tries to ease Nina’s worry that without the baby her marriage is over.
  12. By the way, for your entertainment here are the May Sweeps 1996 spoilers from the old Soap Opera Update magazine:
  13. I didn't mean to post that twice lol. I'm still reformatting that 1997 archive file but I do have that both Ashley Jones and Sabryn Genet both made their debut on 2/18/97 and both Megan and Tricia took an instant disliking for Jill. It's interesting there was no break between the transition from Davidson to Epperson yet there were gaps between Epperson and Shattuck and Shattuck and Davidson. Davidson was even still in the opening credits for good month and a half while Epperson was already on. Shattuck's first story upon Ashley's return from Paris was because Dina had come back to Genoa City. Ashley was still harboring a lot of resentment and anger towards both Dina and Mari Jo and still trying to understand Blade/Rick. She also didn't like Nikki and Brad being together. She started moving first seeing a fellow lab co-worker named Adam Hunter as played by Grant Cramer who previously played the infamous Shawn Garret before it went nowhere. She also had a date with a dayplayer character named Steve that had no further continuance.
  14. Shattuck's final airdate was 2/22/99, the same day as Sandra Nelson's.
  15. I previously noted somewhere, maybe about 100 pages ago lol that Heather Tom had left Y&R in early '97 and her final airdate was 2/21/97 and eventually returned on 10/2/97. The recast, Sarah Aldrich made her debut on 4/2/97 and only lasted until 7/17/97. Her last scenes were of finding out with Nick that Victor and Diane had become coupled, she didn't even an exit before the show put Victoria in a holding pattern until Tom returned. It was only mentioned later on that Victoria had left town again to handle Newman's international business and take another break from Cole, enough for Cole and Ashley to start an affair when Cole approached Ashley to be the subject/model for a novel he was writing. Shattuck's final airdate was 2/22/99, the same day as Sandra Nelson's.
  16. Going back in time here Brenda Epperson left Y&R on 12/21/95 and they gave the character Ashley a break until the infamous Shari Shattuck made her debut on 3/12/96. The opening was updated just for Shattuck! Before: After: I'm also reformatting some 1997 information I have found to be able to post here I should have it posted by tomorrow.
  17. LMAO It was just as thrilling as Billy's "gambling addiction" that lasted a whopping 11 episodes! Davetta was phenomenal. What Dru's daughter should be, and always should have been. CK will never be anything but a miscast joke. LOL oh wow I thought I had blocked Billy the gambler out of my mind. If people think Burgess Jenkins is the worst they should go back and rewatch Scott Seymour! That story and the performance by Seymour was absolutely atrocious before Billy got shipped off to Hong Kong. Latham had really, really bad habit of starting a story or throwing out ideas without zero followup. Victor's spiritual awakening/epilepsy Plumb's murder, Ji Min's murder, someone sabotaging the Newman jet to make it crash with Nick on board, Cane and Nick keeping shady secrets, David Chow etc. are just the tip of the iceberg. Davetta was indeed wonderful. Khalil was okay as the naive, annoying Lily who I think did her best work with Graziadei. Goddard has always sucked the what little life she has in her. The fact Khalil publicly insulted Sherwood ("She needs Jesus in her life!") was awful and since then I've had a disdain for Khalil and had no sympathy for her during the 2012 fiasco where she was almost fired. In fact, she should have been but at least Mishcel Morgan has become far more dominant and Khalil been able to pull off a bitchier Lily.
  18. The aftermath of Dru's death was actually fairly disappointing. Onscreen before got any of the 2013 backstory Neil got drunk one single time and then Olivia showed up to tell to stop it and Neil was all like "Sorry Liv, I slipped up" and the story simply ended.
  19. Just of our curiosity after asking in this in a thread I did about Days but what made you start watching GL and what made you stop? For myself it was the intriguing Sonni/Solita caper and although I use to be ashamed to admit it but the Josh/Reva saga also suckered me in. So did Ed and Maureen, and Vanessa's hopeless relationship with Alan with a complete class act exit before coming back with Billy. Alan and Alex were just so fascinating at that time they made great foils to the rest of Springfield. What made me quit in the late summer/early fall of 2008 was the fact I was tired of Peapack. The show also felt like it had no overall narrative whatsoever and felt like scenes happened spontaneously or were improved. There was a nice little story someone making a movie on Reva's life and we had Josh and Reva going down memory lane complete with 1989 flashbacks, but that was about it. I had already reduced my watching since the year before with the Coopers being constantly shoved down our throats and Dylan/Harley affair, but Peapack fatigue, Reva's post-menopause pregnancy, and that idiotic character that was what, Z, G, or V otherwise known as Grady finally did it in for me.
  20. Three characters that I'm surprised haven't come back yet: -J.T. It took me a long time to grow on J.T. but the sexy bad boy definitely won me over as he transformed into Paul Williams 2.0. I actually liked him and Victoria together, even if the story-line had become muddled in 2009. J.T. and Mac were boring as hell both rounds, and I'm surprised we haven't had him drop back into town. Then again, doesn't he still have full custody of Reed? I guess that would unfortunately put him on Victor's hit list for the next doppelganger... -Nathan Hastings. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised at all, but it would have been nice if he had been Leslie's secret new husband. if he and cousin Devon were the ones fighting over Hilary and Leslie with a exasperated Neil trying to act as a good patriarch. -Cole Howard. Why in all of Victor's schemes to break up Billy and Victoria he never brought back Cole is beyond me.
  21. Early 2006 was pretty good when Latham first took the reins. We had the Lily paternity reveal thanks to Phyllis' big mouth, the JT/Victoria affair, Colleen vs. Kevin, Sharon taunting Nick with the truth by wearing Phyllis' lingerie etc. Even the early face cream stuff was good. Once summer hit, the show fell apart fast between Brad vs. the Nazis and Victor's seizures. Jack and Phyllis seperated/divorced in 2004 between Phyllis' loyalty to working at Newman and Jack allowing Diane to custody of Kyle as well as accepting her bailout money. However, they remained an on-off again item through 2006.
  22. It was an interesting plot point for Christine to come in and aid with Daniel's legal troubles in spite of her history with Phyllis. It was also an example of how Phyllis was written at the time-a vixen with a sharp edge yet haunted by the mistakes of her past and remained in control. The character ended up regressing quite a bit during the Latham and MAB tenures. Cassie's death was indeed such a waste and only done for a ratings and attention stunt but has ending up affecting Y&R like Maureen's death on GL did. I think Nick and Sharon both had definitely different coping mechanisms which created the divide. However, my favorite grieving moment did occur with Sharon. It was when Larry came back to town and gave Sharon a wild motorcycle ride through the wilderness.
  23. Thanks for sharing these 2005 vids, I've been catching up with them all. Even though the show wasn't in the best state at the time and was making terrible mistakes left and right the nostalgia is still there. Plus it is nice to see classic Y&R staff credited as opposed to what we have now. Daniel & Lily on the run remains a surprise highlight from that summer.
  24. I've read that Eve's final exit in 1984 was her leaving town with Rick Daros giving them both a strange but happy ending as the fled town together after stealing money from Victor not sure how correct that is. Of course what I do wonder is I know Cole was shown in the early 80s was it written he could be possibly be Victor's son? Thanks for those late '90 episodes, the 1990 Xmas one was indeed reaired in 2000(Y&R's Christmas Classics usually ran 10 years apart there 1996-2002).
  25. Ah thanks. Charlotte always sounded like a real piece of work. I wonder if they should have started a family between Mike and Leslie as it seems Mike never really had the chance to have another child aside from Hope.
