  1. It's amazing to think back on how revolutionary Y&R actually was in the 1970s. It's almost surreal to think when Y&R first premiered that The Secret Storm, Edge of Night, and Love of Life were all still on the CBS daytime line-up. Yet the old guard that was ATWT, GL, and SFT had gotten stodgy and so cliched so much that by 1975 the stories of Chris' rape, Jennifer's breast cancer and other melodrama, and of course Katherine/Phillip/Jill were so explosive it faded into daytime legend it's no wonder that Y&R suddenly went from bottom of the barrel upon its debut in '73 to a top five soap just two years later in 1975. And of course in my opinion nobody in daytime did a story hook or a climax better than Y&R, even back then. Even though the middle could so easily get bogged down and some stories had some major flaws, Bell always hit that climaxing beat from early stories such as Snapper and Sally all the way to the Veronica Landers caper.
  2. Y&R monthly summary from Australia's TV Soap from exactly twenty years ago, March 1996:
  3. Ah, thanks! Like I said, it would be a very weird joke for Y&R, of all soaps, to make, so this makes much more sense lol You're welcome! Y&R(along with B&B of course) has been the one soap to actually take advantage of writing in actual nearby locations ie taking to trips to Chicago and Green Bay, Alice and Cassie living in Madison, Christine "dumping" Isabella's body in Lake Michigan etc. Oddly I don't think Milwaukee has ever been mentioned.
  4. Lol I remember the Scott Reeves one, it was embarrassingly bad! Like that Nightmare on Elm Street movie that had Roseanne Barr and Tom Arnold playing the neighbors, the movie made it sound like Jason became a Muppet. . It's quite weird how the Friday the 13th movies were usually no name and low budget but a number of starts did get their start their too. The one with Reeves also had Kelly Hu in it in an early role for her! The one with Barton had Corey Feldman playing the kid and Crispin Glover in it too. Lar Park was the no name lead in New Blood and next thing you know she's playing Linda Fairgate on Knots Landing looking her real age. I'm always checking this page whenever I see new posts just to see if I ever miss any old videos so I don't miss them before it's too late. Nice to see those Dickson clips!
  5. What does it mean?? That's the setting for all the Friday the 13th movies, with Jason... Lol it actually might be pure coincidence actually. In fact the Crystal Lake reference may be a instant of real life veracity given their is a real Crystal Lake, Illinois just 20 miles south of the real Genoa City, Wisconsin. Given Bell's great familiarity with the area it wouldn't be a surprise he'd actual reference a nearby real resort lake as opposed to a Friday the 13th reference.
  6. Someone several years ago told me that it was mentioned Skip had died in a motorcycle crash in 1991 but I have never, ever been able to confirm this at the same time no one could remember how Skip left. I wondered if there was a kernel of truth to this or was it another case of "oh yeah, I remember when Carl Williams disappeared and Paul looked for him case" of Y&R viewers trying to remember a story that didn't happen but they believed it had happened. Unless there was a single episode where it was mentioned and never brought up agathin. I've known I've seen another 1992 episode of where Carol was being bossed around by Victor and being unhappy about it Still impressed by Jill and Blade being together. Surprisingly hotter and more chemistry of course right after this Blade went after Ashley while Jill hooked up with Victor with John and Mamie in between.
  7. Great episode! Damn the whole show and even the commercials just screamed 1992. I actually remember those overly dramatic Tide commercials from the early '90s too and of course the Beef commercials. The smooth jazz/elevator music at the BBQ screamed 1992 too. Jill looked so stunning in her outfit and was on fire the entire episode. Walton brings out Tylo's better side and I just can imagine Blade and Jill going toe to toe with Rick and Mari Jo together but then again Jill could never been fooled by a switch so it would have had to been a different kind of revenge story. I felt bad for weepy Ashley the entire episode and how dowdy she looked after her breakup with Victor. Never cared for Brad and Traci, but I did like they were giving Traci more of an edge. Brad was hot and him taking his sunglasses off at the sight of Ashley was a nice added touch. Carol's appearance felt so forced. "Hey I'm still on the show!" I know they didn't know what to do with her, but they could so easily given some one talented like Templeton a good plethora of stories. Either a secret affair with Brad or spying on Victor for Jack would have sufficed. Neil was quite fine with the open shirt but his PSA speech was highly awkward. I know Bell loved to do it and given the '92 recession and other tensions at the time it sounded like he covered all of his bases. Nothing beats the PSA awkwardness as 2003 July 4th ep when Jack, Neil, Victor brought their Saudi businessman friend to the Abbott family BBQ though.
  8. What a pleasant surprise to see this full week up on this thread! THANK YOU so much! -I had forgotten that Luan had her own separate daughter, so sad the first mention of Keemo in over a decade during the Marco story was a sideswipe joke at the entire story. -Actually, I would have enjoyed if Diana Barton's Mari Jo ended up being a mainstay on Y&R as the town vixen/villainess. Unlike Phyllis, Mari Jo was much more level-headed, calm, and collected yet was held an icy demeanor and always looked at the bigger picture for her schemes. -Early Phyllis was fun and it's interesting to see them. Of course looking back there's many shades of Sheila going with Phyllis, but I also see shades of Leanna Love too thrown in as well especially once Phyllis gets on her soap box. -I believe that is still Marita DeLeon as Joani I can tell by the voice but she still has big '80s hair here which also threw me off for a sec too, -I laughed out loud when Lauren asked Mary "Does that include me?" and Mary gave her a nasty glare in response. -It's too bad there was a lot of story isolation at the time. I know Sharon and Dru became friends later on but it's too bad they didn't connect during this same period as both were going through the same problem. -Stephanie Simmons had ZERO personality. -Finally, it's so nice to remember the old Newman family and they way they were back then. Despite their own personal problems and tensions, there was a lot of warmth between them back then because at least they genuinely cared for each other, just didn't see eye to eye. It's nice to see the old Victor we loved, sure he was jackass but at least he still had respect and knew his boundaries. Hope seems to be the one woman Victor allowed to go her own way without trying to intervene.
  9. On the flip-side I was wondering about Y&R prime time episodes as I know as of five prime-time eps that aired in 1994, 1995, two in 1996 and 1998. I've heard a couple others rumored but don't specifically remember them airing in prime-time. I think Doug Shaughnessy wanted to do another but was turned down and stated to SOD they couldn't do another because of previous low ratings performances. The ad below advertises the 3/10/1998 one which was for Y&R's anniversary that year in which Nikki infamously interrupted Victor and Diane's dinner with Nick, Sharon, and Victoria to their amusement to beg for forgiveness for intervening in their marriage but say she and and Josh wanted a baby themselves right before Nikki and Josh were gunned down by Veronica. Also had the climax of Neil and Dru confronting each other with each other's lies if I recall right:
  10. It's funny though that Lauren felt it was in her best interest keep her affair to Brad, serving up Scott with divorce papers, and Sheila being alive away from Chrstine right after he died. While the flip side Sheila was the one more mournful and saddened by the death of someone she loved, while Lauren viewed back at settling for Scott as being third best after Brad and Paul. Almost makes you wonder who you should root for, which is why I think Sheila could have easily turned into a long term villainess/antagonistic woman on the show without going over the top. Of course we would have had an a scene with Jill telling Sheila that her [!@#$%^&*] does indeed stink....
  11. Didn't the Somalia fall into turmoil that occur that week between "Black Hawk Down" and soldiers bodies being dragged down the streets? That could have pre-empted Y&R that week; I knew Days had been pre-empted by NBC News coverage of Waco that same year so I could see something similar occurring to Y&R. In any case thanks for sharing although it is a odd that we have Sheila returning back to town with Miles and Margret from from Paul & Christine's summer love story getting married in the background not to mention it is on the heels of Victor returning to town alive and well. However, I see now that Sheila and the background music beat Kimberly's sudden return from the dead and similar background music by six months on Melrose Place. Too bad we didn't get to see Sheila run down Brad or Traci with an red wig on to incriminate Lauren...
  12. Interesting I didn't realize that Ellen Dolan was the first Morgan Graves I must have missed those eps when it aired on SoapNet I found the character insufferable even though she was suppose to be an overly antagonistic DA towards first Felicia then to Cass, Stacey, and later Donna.
  13. Here ya go, man oh man Jack was NASTY, starts at 4:17 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l8-fP8jBpw Here ya go, man oh man Jack was NASTY:
  14. That's what I thought and some people were like "Hey John doesn't know that Ashley isn't his daughter" back in 2006 upon's John's death. It wouldn't have mattered anyways. However I did think it was bit of stretch for Terry Lester's Jack to go as far as to shame Ashley for not being John's real daughter. What a jerk! I forgot about Nina slapping Phyllis after her continuous affair with Ronan, that was one of the first things the Griffith regime did to knock Phyllis back down off the pedestal she had been on since the Phick affair. Sandra Nelson's two year tenure is so underrated and not credited enough for the amount of work and story that Nelson covered as Phyllis. Does anyone even remember that Jack and Phyllis had their start under Nelson? I sometimes even forget they weren't related LOL......I'm still annoyed that they almost had Victor blackmail Ashley with that secret.....after their whole affair, it didn't make sense, and I'm glad they dropped it......though I'm sure it was either Braeden or even Davidson that had them drop it..... I still wish more of Lester's Jack was on youtube, I mostly have seen his final year in 1989, when he's really hamming it up.....I have a feeling if I were able to watch his entire stint I would probably think that Jack deserved all that Victor did with Jabot later.....Lester was the better A.hole as Jack then Bergman ever was. I'd like to say it would've have had to have been Braeden suddenly remembered in the Marco story Victor helped and saved Ashley from losing her sanity over the Brent revelation, where as Jack was the villain in the story from the clips I watched. "Give me complete executive control on Jabot before I tell Dad first about your secret!" to a terrified Ashley. Again I would have found such a scene more believable if Brenda Dickson's Jill knew the truth and been all "Show those pictures in the cabin and John finds out his beauty isn't his!" before Lester's Jack being sadistic to Davidson's Ashley. Lester's Jack indeed NASTY though. I've seen clips of Jack gleefully telling Ashley about what he had digged up on Brad and Lisa and was hopeful to destroy Brad for good with the infomation, even knowing that Lisa might be unstable "A pile of hair" as he later called her. YRfan23 I'll dig up the link the link to the clips here for you to watch. Apparently Bell had his own Miss Universe snafu with the the Daytime Emmy's, but I'd say Bell was more deserving that Pamela K. Long that year at GL.

  16. So I watching some 1985 clips of where Jack blackmailed and threatened Ashley over her keeping her true paternity secret from John into giving her full executive control. I was surprised greedy Jack was going to hold that against her when they could have easily had Jill accidentally overhear and be the villainess in the story. After it was brought up a few more times in Y&R history most notably in 1999 and just again last year about Ashley's true paternity, would John have actually cared even if Ash wasn't his own blood? Sort of like Phillip still being forever Alan's golden boy on GL despite his true family being the Marler's. I could so easily see him cutting off Jack over that blackmail attempt and seeking revenge against Dina, but not give up on loving Ashley and even going so far to adopt her. Given it probably wouldn't have made a difference or not I see why Bell let that twist just be left largely unrevealed. Brad Bell made the same mistake later on with the Ridge paternity twist which proved ultimately meaningless.
  17. Ah it may have been in '95 when Taylor was running around with Sally and Gladys with that hideous British accent. Her 2005 return she disrupted on Nick and Bridget's umpteenth weddings by screaming and getting kidnapped and everyone thought they saw Taylor but weren't sure. Brooke and Taylor were actually initially very civil when Taylor showed up alive and were trying to accept each other.
  18. Hey guys, thanks for sharing those 1994 episodes! It was a good time period for B&B really although it was indeed cheesy! I certainly remember when Taylor first got her memory back it was a really, really bad joke: Omar: And today we shall go horseback riding to a lovely view on the top of the ridge! Taylor: On top the Ridge? Ridge? Ridge? RIDGE?!!? Oh that sounds so familiar!!! As for Michael Sabatino he made a decent, sexy villain on the show, probably the last time he actually looked decent in a role(he really let himself go). The Ivana murder caper was fun, although it was sad that the zany, sinister Ivana was so brutally murdered and then Sally being gunned down on the way to canasta by Anthony during the story's climax.
  19. *Patty* caused Traci's first miscarriage?? How did this happen? I love this thread because it reveals so many little details that we usually don't read about in general synopses... And OMG @ Lauren's while buried alive - that must have been totally gruesome to watch! Traci had her first go around with Tim Sullivan who was still married at the time and ended up pregnant and convinced Danny to claim to be the father and marry her. Patty, who was still recovering from her mental illness was in love with Danny. Well Patty was so upset with Danny marrying Traci that she confronted Traci and the two got into a big argument which lead to Patty pushing Traci down a staircase leading to a miscarriage. The story ended up being Patty's exit story as an angry Danny chased her out of town. Lauren's was bad as she had been kidnapped by her fan club president Shawn Garrett who was obsessed with her and forced her to go to San Francisco with him. The clips I have seen are pretty dark for Lauren's being buried alive.
  20. Jill's birthday party was up on YT a couple years ago to it's full extent but I'm quite sure it's probably been taking down. It was so lovely to see again from Jill's car being stolen while sleeping with Jed and having to cough an explanation quite to the amusement of Mamie to Nikki confiding her feelings for Jed to Katherine at the same moment Jill and Jed did as much oral as the censors allowed to Mamie giving Jill hell over breakfast with Mamie simply responding "Soon you will be doomed Jill". Even here, it was hilarious that Mamie adamantly ignored Jill's request in that Jill had to pour her own coffee. Jill had obviously severely underestimated Mamie of just being John's version of Esther,
  21. Thanks for both eps! Loved the high tension between Dru, Neil, and Olivia in the first one along with the aftermath of Victoria being Miss September. The second I was more fascinated with the fallout of Jill's infamous Bday party disaster along with Mari Jo vs. Ashley more so than Nina's story.
  22. I'd love to see them if it is possible!! Ryan was more similar to Brad in a way except lacking the extra sleaze and sarcasm that made Brad memorable. Not sure if it was Bergman's clause or not or had started under Lester. Of course in the '80s it seemed that pregnancy on Y&R often resulted in disaster anyways: Patty's miscarriage, Patty being the cause behind Traci's miscarriage with Tim Sullivan's kid, Jill's miscarriage, Faren's abrupt miscarriage, Lauren's miscarriage while buried alive, Ashley's abortion, and Traci's miscarriage in the wake of Brad's disappearance. I figured as much a character like John III/Jack Jr. would be more like Victor and hence a rival to Nick than anything else. I actually almost wish Stephen Lassiter and Ashley would have had a kid together just so Ashley would have had another kid.
  23. I believe I at least saw one although I actually do remember watching the story when it first originally aired as well. Cast and Reeves did an exceptional job with it but I felt it was also so unfair to give Nina another "woe is me" story as opposed to something positive for a change like having a baby. She certainly deserved happiness for a change. In the big picture both of Nikki's miscarriages lead to bigger storylines in the long run that may or may not have happened otherwise. Don't know about Braeden's influence but there's been a long standing myth of a "Jack can't have kids" clause given the number of miscarriages(5) and paternity fakeouts(3, maybe 4) Jack has been through with Keemo and Kyle being the two exceptions. I feel if John Abbott III have indeed lived on by the time Victor and Nikki eventually remarried they probably would have done a story of him preferring his stepfather Victor over Jack and fall under Victor's influence permanently.
  24. While I've got it on my mind, what was the point of Nina's miscarriage with Ryan? I know it was a touching story(the balloons, Ryan's bond with young Phillip IV/Chance) and was well received but what the heck was the point? Even back then I felt it was so very unnecessary.
  25. These 12-18-97 closing credits feature Miguel, an open shirted Cole, a shirtless Ryan(yes!), Gordon Thomson in an unmemorable guest stint he did, and Tricia in an outfit that would be reused for her '98-99 opening credits: And here's a 1996 promo that incorporated the opening credits into for each character profile. Never knew Victoria's dress was that short until this:
