  1. Uh...I don't think '99 ATWT was as bad as all of that. But considering Broderick was probably fired by the time the next issue came out, it's ironic. Two questions. Who's the guy behind Hal? Kirk? and who's standing between Kim and Bob? FMB? Broderick?
  2. Brian McColl was a lawyer? Damn...don't remember that at all.
  3. IA...I think of Passions as true camp. I remember Shannon and Harriet as more Lucy&Ethel situational slapstick than some defining element of the show.
  4. Duncan/Shannon had their roots in pure gothic romance, not camp. I'm not denying Marland had his farcical moments, (aaah, my wee lassie," as Duncan holds Shannon's tennis-ball head..) but he was much more rooted in emotion than slapstick.
  5. Not only did they succeed in surprising the viewers, they surprised the cast. I know CZ has told the story about how secret they were---I don't quite remember all the details, but basically the set was shut down except for her and a bare-bones essential personnel. I'm not even sure she knew he was under that monk's robe until he revealed himself. I need to find that story. Anyhow, about the Dobsons---y'know, it's the era. They were a radical departure from what ATWT was. I think it was the fact they were copying the GH/IcePrincess mode drama that rankled. I don't remember a lot from that time, but I know they went to pretty ridiculous lengths. I remember the 1800's costume-y Babs hallucinations were she "met" Gunnar and the endless "what is Bilan?" mystery. It was too much camp, too fast. I'd argue the core of ATWT just didn't like, want or need camp EVER. I remember cringing through a lot of the last ten years through crap like the Keys to the Kingdom contest, the teen college tour, Rick Decker, etc, because that's not what what I wanted or where ATWT was ever really successful at. (Camp being different from humor..)
  6. OMG---by the end Tom and Margo just sucked. I don't think Tom was ever a very dynamic character other than the Deas/Marx era. For me, Tom & Margo lost all relevance around '93.
  7. I wish I could remember why exactly. I'm too lazy to go and seek out the rest of the clips. Like, why did Hal consider Dani such a bad influence? I remember Barbara practically hating Nikki, thinking she was a little slut (something about having Jeremy up in her bedroom strikes a chord in my memory). But I thought Dani was the good girl in all of that.
  8. Ugh...I can't unmute those episodes for some reason. Is the top one dealing with the Ruxton Hills fire? My God...CZ had such a baby face!
  9. I'm sure this makes me a hardass, but I don't give a bleepin' rip about McGee's practically unseen girlfriend now being paralyzed. I don't "know" her. I knew more about the lie detector tech that had a crush on McGee than I know about Delilah. And as much as I love McGee, Sean Murray has two expressions. Constipated and more constipated. I did however love seeing Rachael back. I think she should be Gibbs' next ex-wife.
  10. Well, it's unfair to judge anything by the Martin Chedwyn era. Or Mike Kasnoff (I think this is just after Carly's miscarriage, so I'm guessing he's "depressed" as well as a lousy housekeeper)
  11. Yeah, I only saw tv ads this weekend...and one of those was on NatGEO wild...not a channel I would think of for cross promotion. Sad...but in a world with Honey BooBoo and that mean dance teacher, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. At least I'm free.
  12. Personally, I'm going to be interested to see the return numbers. I thought the numbers went up after OWN started airing AMC and OLTL. I wouldn't be surprised to see the numbers go down. I haven't seen one commercial for the return on the channels I watch.
  13. That's Christmas 2000. Poor Anne Sward, hauled out for Hunt, Terri and Todd Rotondi. An Unholy Trinity if there ever was one. Re: really old stuff---what I heard was that sometimes episodes that were used in flashbacks survived. What's that eppy from...the mid-60's maybe?
  14. LOL....Evil Carly!!!! You can't tell exactly what's going on storywise---but I know she and Mike bang on NYE and she gets knocked up with Nora. That ending little montage and Bob reading 'Twas the Night Before Christmas---that is ATWT to me. Oh, and WTH? Strawberry blonde KIM?
  15. I don't especially like the new chick. I'm kind of annoyed by the way she's been made to be supercalifragilisiticexpealadously smart---to the point it's almost like she's solving the case-of-the-week by herself by observing some insignificant clue ala The Mentalist and Bingo! I don't hate her---I just wish we'd had a little more focus on the team before bringing another agent in. I did love seeing Ben Vereen as Jackie's estranged father. Cote's departure doesn't really seem to have affected the show one way or the other---in spite of all sorts of dire predictions. It's actually kind of refreshing not to deal with Ziva's continual angst. At least for me.
  16. I don't think he had contempt---I just don't think he ever quite understood or appreciated what made ATWT unique from the ABC soaps. I think it drove him to make bad decisions, from hiring ABC alumni to "modernizations" that ultimately hurt the show deeply.
  17. I don't know...I know Denise bothered a lot of people for selling her baby. And I know I never bought her romance with Ben. I do think it's too bad Kim never got to spend any time with her ONE biological grandchild. Sometimes I don't really think it's Sheffer's fault. He needed a strong co-writer. One who literally understood why you can't and/or shouldn't repeat plots (like that stupid island Lily&Simon and Katie were stuck on) or write entire stories that take place "out" of town, and literally strand a group of characters by themselves for the duration. Knew how to develop characters instead of relying on stunt casting to facilitate a change in character. I think he was in over his head from day one, he just had a strong enough staff to write his ass out of it. Once he bought into his own press, he was toast.
  18. *sigh* Thanks for finding that. It's such a fun read. 'Tho it leaves me a little depressed since my show is gone...
  19. LOL...the outtake reel was funny. So good to see Ben H again.
  20. Rita Lloyd is criminally forgotten. Her time as Lucille Wexler scared the living crap out of me. I'm sorry---I love that opening. LURVE. IT. Yeah, Holden's a douche---but that clip actually makes me appreciate grown up PapaToAllOfOakdale Holden. At least until the !@#$%^&*] went after Carly.
  21. caught sight of Jean Carol (Nadine GL) on HIMYM tonight. She has no lines, but she looks good. She's in the part about Robin at the cake shop. Right before James VanderBeek appears (an ex-ATWTer himself)
  22. So, was that the woman who Barbara gave Paul to? Cool.
