  1. Looked him up and Alain Lambert is an entrepreneur and is affiliated with Prager U, so definitely a genuine supporter. Unclear if he honestly believes what he says about what makes Trump good.
  2. What the what now?
  3. Was there any joke at all in Trump's reminiscences about the time someone told him that Arnold Palmer had a large penis? Or do these publications just giggle hearing about it? Also don't get me started about the number of posts I have seen with people tittering about how they can never drink an Arnold Palmer again.
  4. Thank you. Did Another World air in Australia and/or New Zealand and if so do you know what time periods? Your post about Steve's plans for Australia being very up-to-the-minute was interesting. I wonder how much the new cities were in the North American news at the time. Similarly there were plans for characters to visit Finland in 1982 I think it was. I wonder if there was anything in the Zeitgeist influencing that?
  5. I'm sure they probably discussed it and maybe Duncan wasn't comfortable with having to do an accent or at least in a long-term major rôle at the pace of daytime. Her accent was not so broadly Australian that it seemed like a problem to me for Iris. Do we know if she used a different accent in any of her other rôles? Some actors are brilliant with accents and others just aren't. Bridget rarely talked about herself but did she ever mention Scotland or anything about her own past beyond Vicky's ?
  6. Mitzi Gaynor has died. I knew her best from South Pacific. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/mitzi-gaynor-dead-south-pacific-star-1236034187/
  7. I know that Caroline Stafford and Ian Rain were Australian characters played by Australian actors while Carmen Duncan's Iris was obviously not Australian. Did Diana Frame, Steve's stepdaughter, have an Australian accent (and if not was there any explanation for it)? I know I have seen scenes with Diana and I don't remember her accent at all.
  8. No Beverly Penberthy in the Broadway cast but Elizabeth Ashley was.opposite Redford in the opening night cast while Beverlee McKinsey was standby in the rôle under the replacements. Lots of other names in the cast as well. https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-production/barefoot-in-the-park-3036#OpeningNightCast Beverly Penberthy replaced Joan Van Ark in the touring production with Myrna Loy. https://www.ibdb.com/tour-production/barefoot-in-the-park-526624#Replacements
  9. Watched a couple of minutes on CNN about whether Kamala Harris is too scripted or simply disciplined about her messaging. (She appears to have been very frank about it.) I was very pleased with the guest for smoothly referring to the Republican candidate without mentioning his name. Every time I hear the name it reminds me of the Far Side cartoon about what dogs hear and it makes me worry about it translating into votes from people who take that as the message.
  10. Penberthy has one brief (13 previews + 4 performances) Broadway credit in a play in 1969 with Nicolas Coster and Bethel Leslie among others. https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-production/but-seriously-2852#OpeningNightCast https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/items/36bc86d0-f139-012f-71e1-58d385a7bbd0 I didn't turn up any off Broadway or regional theatre but I would be surprised if she had not continued to work if she wanted to.
  11. Summary: Lizza's family is mob-adjacent so we shouldn't be surprised if he did it. People who complain about Nuzzi are just jealous because she's so pretty and good at her job. Also who can blame her for being dazzled by a Kennedy. Ugh.
  12. His professed reasons for liking one actor and disliking another don't seem to be consistent from.one case to the next so the only explanation seems to come down to personality. I was thinking about Lemay's comments about Eric Roberts' success post-AW and it occurred to me that it wasn't so surprising that an actor who has difficulty with the pace and limited rehearsal of soaps might still be brilliant in film or stage. Eric Roberts might never have adapted to soaps. On a completely other topic, I was thinking about Jonathan Pryce as Reginald because it came into my mind that he couldn't be much older than Anna Stuart. And indeed when I looked it up she was born in 1948 and he was born in 1947. Of course John Considine isn't that much older -- born in 1935.
  13. Ethel Kennedy, RFK Jr's mother, has died at 96.
  14. From Eight Years in Another World:
  15. Thank you for this -- I love the comments about why they think a movie would [or mostly wouldn't] work and why, blended with the nostalgia of what they miss about the good old days. I am a sucker for actors being thoughtful about acting.
  16. I just looked it up -- it was Flo Murray who I believe was Danny Fargo's other girlfriend.
  17. Autocorrect can be a plague (mine changed that immediately to plaque) but it is still strange to me that Politico let "neigh on" get through for "nigh on". How about "nearly" if "nigh on" is too hard?
  18. Still thinking about Michael and Iris. I don't know that we have ever really been sure when Michael and Iris were supposed to have known each other or whether their relative ages and stations in life make any sense at any point. I see that the AWHP places their offscreen affair in 1985, so not long before Michael showed up for the first time and definitely post-Texas. Did Michael have any kind of relationship with Dennis and was that acknowledged when Dennis was with Marley?
  19. There seem to have been a lot of trials in 1994, but the combination of child custody and Menudo suggests that this part must have been in relation to Tomas fighting to keep custody of Luisa. (But Diego Serrano was never in Menudo as far as I am aware, that seems to be a misapprehension.)
  20. It was mostly the question of who Iris and Michael were supposed to be as people and what would have attracted them to each other -- and what would have made Iris a threat (or not) to Michael's relationship with Donna. Michael had been introduced as very down-to-earth. And although Donna sort of occupied a similar demographic to Iris I don't think they were really alike -- especially not the young Donna Michael had known compared to the more mature (and presumably post-Texas?) Iris. It's possible that I wasn't watching attentively and ignored or overlooked subtleties that were actually shown. Maybe the idea was that Philece Sampler's Donna was an idle princess whereas Iris was a smart businesswoman and therefore easier for Michael to treat as an equal?
  21. Thanks for sharing. I was never very happy about the idea that Michael and Iris shared a past, or at least I never quite knew how to picture it. Watching that clip I was trying to figure out whether it is supposed to be the first time they ever met. I think I would prefer to think of it as a point where they were already together, because otherwise Michael seems just a little too familiar and presumptuous. But that is probably supposed to be what makes it romantic.
  22. Do I want to know who "they" are? And if they have the ability to control the weather, is the implication that they are causing bad weather out of malice?
  23. The copyright at the end of the credits says 1989 and the plot descriptions for the NBC Thursday night lineup read over the credits point to January 26, 1989.
  24. The March episode with Michael's flashback has a scene where Mac offers her a job and it reminds me of how much I wish we had had Nancy as a foil for Amanda.
  25. I don't know of any pictures or video of Aunt Bertha unfortunately. Based on the AWHP weekly synopses for 1985 (the daily synopses do not go to December) and the video available on YouTube for December 24 1985, I believe the day Marley and Jake met Ellie and Aunt Bertha must have been December 23. About 18 minutes in on Dec 24 Ellie phones to wish the Loves Merry Christmas and (thinking she is talking to Marley's twin instead of Donna) that she hopes they will find their father. No Aunt Bertha.
